Background / History
During the Ferocious Beast Tribulation, the Heavenly Dao directly communicated with Lin Changsheng after he developed the Calamity-Dispelling Pill. It proposed publicly releasing the pill formula and promised a substantial future Merit reward once the tribulation ended; Lin accepted the arrangement. 24
It responded aggressively to exceptional cultivators who threatened its authority. When Lin Changsheng attained Twelve-grade Three Flowers, the Heavenly Dao manifested its Divine Wheel and Eye of Divine Punishment, judging Three Flowers Perfection unacceptable because it could produce a being stronger than itself. The Great Dao's gaze dissolved the World-Ending Divine Thunder and forced the Heavenly Dao to retreat. 48 49
After the Great Dao's retreat, the Heavenly Dao became the primary active authority in the Primordial World. It enforced karmic trajectories, attempted to compel Fuxi into the Demon Race, and used the Eye of Divine Punishment when Fuxi swore an oath to the Great Dao instead. 121
The Heavenly Dao established the Saint system through Primordial Violet Qi and the entrustment of a cultivator's Primordial Spirit. This gave Heavenly Dao Saints immortality and access to its power, but also allowed the Heavenly Dao to use and control their entrusted Primordial Spirits. 118 174
Its authority was first challenged by the opening of the independent Earthly Dao. The Heavenly Dao suppressed the Witch Race, attempted to destroy the newly born Earthly Dao with its full Divine Wheel and Eye of Divine Punishment, and was injured when the Great Dao annihilated its lightning strike. 196 198
Nuwa's opening of the Human Dao divided its authority further. When Nuwa and Tongtian renounced their Heavenly Dao Saint positions, the Heavenly Dao attempted to punish them, but their entrusted Primordial Spirits had been replaced with Nine Heavens Breathing Soil. Hongjun then merged with the Dao, devoured the Heavenly Dao Will, and accelerated its fusion with the Earthly and Human Daos. 250 251 253
Appearance
The Heavenly Dao has no fixed humanoid form. It primarily manifests through immense law-based phenomena that overwhelm the Primordial World's sky and the Primordial Spirits of living beings. 48 198
- Heavenly Dao Divine Wheel — a colossal wheel bearing and condensing the Three Thousand Laws; its full manifestation can obscure the entire Primordial World. 198
- Eye of Divine Punishment — a pitch-black, resplendent eye formed from Heavenly Dao Laws, within which destructive lightning gathers. 48
- Law-based attacks — its power may take the form of World-Ending Divine Thunder, lightning dragons, law hand seals, or a grinding mill composed of the Three Thousand Great Dao Laws. 49 188 189
Personality
Before Hongjun's Dao integration, the Heavenly Dao displayed self-preservation and an increasingly possessive will. It regarded cultivators capable of surpassing it, as well as the independent Earthly and Human Daos, as threats to its authority and acted to suppress them. 48 192 198
It was not wholly indiscriminate: it granted Merit for actions that benefited the Primordial World's development, recognized Saint breakthroughs with auspicious phenomena, and maintained calamities as a means of limiting the world's burden. 24 139 204
After Hongjun devoured its will, the Heavenly Dao ceased to possess emotions and became part of a tripartite governing order with the Earthly Dao and Human Dao. 252 253
