Background / History
Hongjun emerged as one of the major powers during the Ferocious Beast Tribulation. He investigated repeated descents of heavenly merit and became preoccupied with the unidentified “Alchemy Master,” whose actions could not be deduced even through Hongjun’s methods. He suspected the figure’s deeds were connected to merit, but repeatedly found no usable clues. 21 47 65 66
During this period, Hongjun’s rivalry with Rahula became increasingly clear. Although he regarded Rahula as an inevitable opponent on his path to enlightenment, he refused to settle their conflict before the Beast Emperor Shen Ni was defeated. He instead prioritized ending the Ferocious Beast Tribulation and securing the merit it would produce. 25 46
In the Dao-Demon Conflict, Hongjun entered the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation alongside Ancestor Qiankun, Ancestor Yin Yang, and Yang Mei. After Qiankun and Yin Yang self-destructed and Yang Mei escaped wounded, Hongjun revealed his preparation: his Good, Evil, and Self Corpses. The four Hongjuns occupied the formation’s sword gates with powerful treasures, pushing Rahula into defeat. 106 Lin Changsheng ambushed Hongjun’s Good Corpse during this battle and seized the Heaven and Earth Cauldron, leaving Hongjun unable to locate him after Rahula’s self-destruction devastated the Western Continent. 107 108
Hongjun later attained sainthood and publicly established Zixiao Palace. His sermons provided a path beyond Grand Unity Golden Immortal, explained the Three Corpses method, and elevated the cultivation of the Primordial World’s leading figures. He also founded the Mystic Gate, selected disciples, distributed Primordial Violet Qi, and created Heaven Beyond Heaven as a competing cultivation world. 140 147 148 167 168
After recognizing Dao Venerable Changsheng as the force behind the Dream World and Changsheng Heaven, Hongjun sought to restrain that influence through his disciples, treasures, and Heaven Beyond Heaven. His efforts repeatedly met resistance, including the loss of the Pangu Banner to Lin Changsheng and an eventual direct confrontation at Zixiao Palace over the Human Race. 140 158 189
As the Primordial World’s larger crises intensified, Hongjun’s position shifted from unilateral control toward negotiation. He discussed the depletion of the world’s Origin with Lin Changsheng, agreed to terms for the Investiture of the Gods Calamity, and ultimately supported the merging of the Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Daos. 204 205 206 252 253
Appearance
Hongjun is depicted as an immortal and refined cultivator in white Daoist robes. Upon becoming a Saint, he manifests an overwhelmingly noble presence that compels all beings across the Primordial World to lower their heads. 140
- White Daoist robe. 140
- Law runes flow within his eyes. 140
- Possesses an aura described as saintly, noble, and difficult for ordinary cultivators to resist. 140
Personality
Hongjun is patient, analytical, and exceptionally calculating. Rather than fight Rahula prematurely, he delayed their decisive conflict until the Ferocious Beast Tribulation ended, judging that the timing was not yet favorable. 25 He often conceals his conclusions until a plan is complete, as shown when he used Rahula’s refusal to cooperate as evidence that the Demon Ancestor was unrelated to the mysterious Alchemy Master. 67
His priorities are closely tied to the operation and balance of the Primordial World. He is willing to distribute treasures, appoint leaders, manipulate alliances, and initiate calamities when he believes they are necessary for the Heavenly Dao’s order. 141 148 205 However, following the threat from beyond the Primordial World, he begins to value the world’s collective strength and acknowledges that Lin Changsheng’s attachment to his sect and the Human Race distinguishes him from more detached cultivators. 218
