Background and history

The Nine Heavens and Ten Lands formed from severely damaged worlds after the Primordial Ancient Realm was shattered. Its laws became incomplete, and the former path to True Immortal cultivation was lost or no longer understood. The road to the Immortal Domain was also severed, leaving many ancient Supremes to seek longevity by sealing themselves in Life Forbidden Zones 15 199.

During the Age of Mythology, enlightenment as a Supreme could make an entire life-bearing planet a center of the world's fortune. Li Ming's enlightenment elevated Ziwei Star to the leading Life Source Ground of its age and drew the Human Race's destiny there 15.

At the end of the Primordial Era, Li Ming ceased suppressing the Heavenly Heart Imprint. The ensuing final tribulation damaged cultivators and weapons across the world. The Heavenly Heart Imprint and manifestations of the Myriad Dao then disappeared, the world's essence was exhausted, and cultivation became impossible for roughly two hundred thousand years 232.

Fuxi and Nuwa ended the Dharma-Ending Era by attaining Emperor Enlightenment above the Heavenly Heart Imprint. They revived the Myriad Dao, helped the damaged imprint reform, and opened Chaos to replenish spiritual essence. Their achievement began the Desolate Ancient Era 235 236 239.

Structure and cultivation laws

  • Cosmic scale — Countless stars and life-bearing planets lie across the world, separated by vast, often lifeless stretches of space. Interstellar travel remains dangerous for Saints 21.
  • Heavenly Heart Imprint — A central feature of Emperor Enlightenment. Cultivators may merge with it, imprint their Dao upon it, or attempt to rise above it; its collapse during the Dharma-Ending Era destabilized the world's Grand Dao 232 234 235 244.
  • Life Forbidden Zones — Refuges for ancient Supremes who cut down their own cultivation and sealed themselves away while awaiting a route to immortality. The Reincarnation Sea, Divine Ruins, and Heaven are among the zones described within the world 5 20 199.
  • Routes beyond the world — The Road to Immortality contains successive gates and intermediate realms before the actual Immortal Domain. A separate passage permits qualified Ancient Emperor Supremes to enter the Strange World 66 67 215.
