Background / History

Daode Tianzun was one of the Nine Heavenly Venerables and the creator of the Dao Scripture, a foundational Human Race cultivation text whose Sea of Bitterness section continued to enlighten later Supremes and Heavenly Venerables. Though his aptitude was reportedly unremarkable in youth and he attained the Dao late, his strength was considered exceptionally profound. He freely transmitted the Dao Scripture, establishing the legacy later known as the Dao Gate. 38

In an ancient prison-like world possibly established by the Desolate Heavenly Emperor, Daode encountered Lingbao Tianzun and a wounded Bloodied True Immortal that had fallen through an Immortal Domain Rift. Lingbao was primarily responsible for killing the immortal, while Daode assisted and later studied its corpse alongside him. The two subsequently chose different paths toward renewed life: Lingbao took the corpse for his own transformation, while Daode buried himself within the prison-world to transform. 24

Daode’s survival involved Corpse Spirit Awakening and a renewed attainment of the Dao, though he retained far more of his original memories and identity than Li Ming expected from such a process. By the time Li Ming found him, Daode had cultivated a small world within his Dao ground and was attempting to evolve it toward an Immortal Domain. 24 38

When Sacred Spirits massacred the Dao Gate to avenge members of their race previously slain by him, Daode openly returned to the world. He destroyed the Perfected Sacred Spirit leading the attack and eradicated its accompanying army with a single finger, then claimed the Sacred Spirit birthplace as his own forbidden zone. 37 38

Appearance

Daode Tianzun commonly appears as an elegant Daoist in a violet-gold crown and Eight Trigrams robe. His age and appearance shift with his condition: he was first seen with loose gray-white hair and a youthful face, then restored himself to a black-haired man in his prime. 24

Daode Tianzun is reserved, courteous, and notably indifferent to fame. He normally avoids public attention and regards grand displays of reverence as unnecessary, yet he will act decisively when his Dao Gate or his long-standing conflict with the Sacred Spirit lineage is involved. 38 40

He is unusually generous with knowledge. He passed down the Dao Scripture broadly, shared an incomplete Tribulation Heavenly Art with Li Ming, and openly explained his Sacred Spirit-based longevity theory to Li Ming and Netherworld Venerable in hopes that they could identify its flaws. 25 38

His approach to immortality is experimental but not solitary. He considers Li Ming and Netherworld Venerable trustworthy fellow travelers, exchanging methods and insights on Corpse Spirit Awakening, Sacred Spirit transformation, Immortal Medicine nirvana, and the Red Dust Immortal Path. 38 40

Li Ming follows clues from Teng Snake’s memories into a death-filled prison-world and finds Daode Tianzun cultivating on a life-filled island. Daode confirms his role in Lingbao Tianzun’s battle against the wounded True Immortal and reveals that he has successfully transformed after a prolonged burial. 24

Exchange with Li Ming

Daode and Li Ming discuss Tribulation Heavenly Venerable, Lingbao Tianzun, and their respective paths to renewed life for a century. Daode gives Li Ming an incomplete Tribulation Heavenly Art and Nine Secrets: Shu; Li Ming reciprocates with the Thunder God’s Heavenly Art and the scriptures of Carefree and Longevity Heavenly Venerables. 25

Daode initially develops a Sacred Spirit transformation method, but Li Ming’s proposal to study Immortal Medicine nirvana gives him another path.
