Background / History

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village with his father, Tang Hao. At his martial-soul awakening, Su Yuntao judged his Blue Silver Grass to be useless, even though Tang San possessed Innate Full Soul Power. Chu Zhao immediately noticed that his temperament and gaze were unusual for a six-year-old 1.

He initially lost the work-study position at Notting Spirit Master Academy to Chu Zhao. Later, Chu Zhao opened Moonlight Blacksmith Shop in Notting City and recruited him at several times his prior pay, allowing him to acquire materials for concealed weapons more quickly 2 14.

Tang San eventually learned that Tang Hao was Clear Sky Douluo and that he himself possessed Twin Martial Souls: Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer. Tang Hao placed the burden of reviving the Clear Sky Sect upon him and pushed him through increasingly harsh training, including Slaughter City 51 87 135.

Appearance

Tang San’s appearance changed drastically after his Blue Silver Grass underwent a second awakening into the Blue Silver Emperor. He described his later appearance as his original one; even Xiao Wu struggled to recognize him after their reunion 182.

  • Initially described by Ma Hongjun as ordinary-looking, with neat features at most 155.
  • Later appeared markedly more handsome after his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline awakened 182.
  • Can manifest the Blue Silver Emperor and Clear Sky Hammer simultaneously to prove his identity 155 182.

Personality

Tang San is diligent, resilient, and deeply driven by attachment. After being told he was too weak to protect Chu Zhao, he threw himself into cultivation; he also refused to surrender against Chu Zhao even when overwhelmed by her Soul Power and mental pressure 25 92.

His filial devotion to Tang Hao is intense. He longed for his absent father for six years, forgave Chu Zhao for injuring him, and repeatedly begged Tang Hao to stay. At the same time, he was willing to oppose Tang Hao to shield Chu Zhao, whom he considered his most important friend 68 69.

His later conduct became more conflicted and ruthless. He took pills stolen from Chu Zhao despite his reservations, contemplated using Xiao Wu as a soul ring, and ultimately killed her while apologizing to her 151 181 187.

The alternate-world God King Tang is more openly suspicious, manipulative, and violent. He assumes others were responsible for Xiao Wu and Tang Hao’s deaths, interrogates former acquaintances, and deceives Er Ming in order to gain an advantage 195 196 224.

Abilities & Skills

Twin Martial Souls

Tang San possesses Blue Silver Grass—later awakened as the Blue Silver Emperor—and the Clear Sky Hammer, regarded as the strongest weapon martial soul on the continent 76 87.

  • Blue Silver Emperor — grants a plant-based connection and caused his second awakening and altered appearance 182.
  • Clear Sky Hammer — retained formidable power even without attached soul rings 87.
  • He uses both martial souls together as unmistakable proof of his identity 155 182.

Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills

His Blue Silver Grass supports control and restraint in battle.

  • First Soul Skill: Entanglement — binds opponents with Blue Silver Grass 47.
  • Third Soul Skill: Spider Web Restraint — attempts to immobilize targets with a web of Blue Silver Grass; it can be broken by sufficiently concentrated power 47.
  • His martial soul was less responsive when suppressed during the Cloud Peak Academy match, prompting him to switch to the Clear Sky Hammer 87.

Tang Sect Arts

Tang San employs several specialized techniques and produces concealed weapons.

  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — evasive footwork used to avoid attacks and support the buildup of hammer techniques 47 87.
  • Mystic Jade Hand — allows him to catch sharp projectiles and attacks barehanded 47.
  • Purple Demon Eyes — mental attack technique; ineffective against Chu Zhao due to the disparity in their mental strength 92.
  • Hidden Weapons — his designs were powerful enough to draw Tang Hao’s protection and were later used by other forces against his side 51 174.
  • Blacksmithing — used to obtain income and produce materials for concealed weapons 14.

Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer

A secret self-created Clear Sky Sect technique consisting of eighty-one increasingly powerful hammer strikes. It concentrates accumulated force into a final burst and requires time to build momentum 87.

  • Tang San combines it with Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track to make it smoother and more difficult to interrupt 87.
  • He used it against Chu Zhao under Tang Hao’s order during the Cloud Peak Academy match 87.

Domains and Divine Trials

Tang San possesses Divine Slaughter’s Domain, though Chu Zhao’s Death God’s Domain dissolved it during their later conflict 139.

  • The alternate-world God King Tang received the Asura God Nine Trials 223.
  • His first trial required mastery of Divine Slaughter’s Domain; his second required finding and breaking Chu Zhao’s continent-spanning array 223.

  • External Soul Bone — shattered when he shielded Chu Zhao from Tang Hao’s attack 99.
  • Scythe of Fate — used to block Chu Zhao’s fatal strike against Tang Hao, at the cost of his Male Lead Halo 138.
  • God Sesame Pills — pills stolen from Chu Zhao’s possessions; greatly accelerated his Soul Power and granted him a sixth soul ring after the first dose 151.

Relationships

  • Tang Hao — father. Tang San is fiercely filial toward him, though their relationship is strained by Tang Hao’s expectations, training, and willingness to endanger others for Tang San’s advancement 69 135 181.
  • Ah Yin / Blue Silver Emperor — mother. Tang San longs for her revival; after his death, his soul nourishes the Blue Silver Emperor 182 213.
  • Chu Zhao — early friend, employer, and someone Tang San repeatedly protected from Tang Hao. Their bond deteriorated after conflicts involving Tang Hao, stolen pills, and Chu Zhao crippling him 14 68 99 152.
  • Xiao Wu — close friend and former love. They reunited after seven years apart, but Tang San later killed her while attempting to fulfill his trial-related goals 182 187.
  • Tang Yuehua — aunt who persuaded him to take the God Sesame Pills and pursue revenge connected to the Clear Sky Sect 151.
  • Ning Rongrong — ally who shielded Tang San from Yue Guan and threatened self-harm if he died 99.
  • Ma Hongjun — Shrek companion. Initially failed to recognize Tang San after his crippling and nearly killed him before Tang San revealed both martial souls 155.
  • Er Ming and Da MingXiao Wu’s soul-beast companions. God King Tang deceived Er Ming about Xiao Wu, provoking a battle with both brothers 223 224.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Shrek Academy and Tournament

Tang San cultivated at Shrek Academy, participated in team matches, and competed against Cloud Peak Academy. He used the Clear Sky Hammer and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer against Chu Zhao, but Shrek Academy ultimately conceded their match 87 88.

During the tournament period, Tang San repeatedly shielded Chu Zhao from Tang Hao despite Tang Hao’s rage over her injury to him. Tang Hao agreed to remain until the tournament’s end largely because of Tang San’s pleas 68 69.

Clear Sky Sect Training and Fall

Following the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction, Tang San took God Sesame Pills connected to Tang Hao’s theft from Chu Zhao. He founded the Tang Sect and began recruiting the Four Element Clans, but his attempt to recruit the Breaking Clan led him directly into Chu Zhao’s hands 151.

Chu Zhao chose to cripple rather than kill him, regarding him as a future threat. Tang San then returned to Holy Emperor Village, where Old Jack and the villagers initially failed to recognize him 152 153.

Sea God Trials and Xiao Wu’s Death

Tang San reached rank 70 and entered the Star Dou Great Forest for his Second Trial. He struggled with Tang Hao’s instruction that Xiao Wu should become his seventh soul ring, while resentment over her connection to Er Ming worsened his doubts 181.

After reuniting with Xiao Wu, he later lured her into a blood-red space and killed her with a blue-silver spear. Tang San subsequently died in Slaughter City; his weakened soul was awakened by Chu Zhao before it later nourished the Blue Silver Emperor 187 189 213.

Return of God King Tang

An alternate-world Tang San’s soul entered the dead body in sealed Slaughter City. He retained memories inconsistent with this world, believed Xiao Wu had sacrificed herself for him, and suffered a breakdown upon discovering unfamiliar memories of abandoning Tang Hao, poisoning Ma Hongjun, and killing Xiao Wu 190.

After rapidly reaching Titled Douluo, God King Tang emerged to find Chu Zhao ruling a transformed continent. He fought Xiao Chenyu and Wang Sheng, encountered Chu Zhao, and began pursuing the Asura God Nine Trials 195 197 223.
