Background

Xiao Han first appears while sunbathing atop the Empire State Building. When the NYPD attempts to remove him, he ignores nonlethal weapons, live ammunition, and threats before injuring the commander who interrupted him. He then relocates to high altitude for stronger sunlight, immediately attracting S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attention. 1

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attempt at contact through Natasha Romanoff fails after Xiao Han exposes the agency's surveillance, rejects recruitment and oversight, and cripples her Quinjet with a casual gesture. He makes his priorities explicit: uninterrupted sunlight, personal freedom, and continued growth. 2

After moving to a desert for harsher sunlight, he incidentally saves Tony Stark from a terrorist ambush.
