Background

Zhang Yangzi enters Eastsea Academy as one of Fang Ming’s three roommates in Dormitory 101. After Fang Ming reveals his level-38 cultivation, Zhang Yangzi recognizes the overwhelming difference in strength and supports Xie Xie’s proposal to acknowledge Fang Ming as the dormitory’s leader. 16

He is assigned to First-Year Class One alongside Fang Ming, Gu Yue, Xie Xie, and Wang Jinxi. During the class introductions, he states his ambition to become the strongest agility-type Soul Master. 17 18

Personality

Zhang Yangzi is serious, practical, and composed. Unlike Xie Xie’s loud enthusiasm, he generally responds to situations with measured judgment, including warning Xie Xie to stop openly teasing Fang Ming and Gu Yue. 16 18

He is loyal to his roommates and quick to defend them. During the cafeteria conflict, he challenges Wei Xiaofeng for refusing to apologize to Xie Xie, joins the fight when Wei’s group attacks, and supports Xie Xie’s account during the disciplinary hearing. 20 22

He is also competitive and ambitious. He takes the Class Promotion Tournament seriously and expresses interest in seeing whether another class can reach Class One. 27

Zhang Yangzi meets Fang Ming in Dormitory 101 and introduces himself as a level-19 Soul Master with the Dark Phantom Demon Eagle martial soul. He accepts Fang Ming as the dormitory’s leader after learning Fang Ming is level 38. 16

Class One Formation

He is placed in First-Year Class One with his roommates and Gu Yue. He chooses a back-row seat near Fang Ming, demonstrating his loyalty to the dormitory group. 17

Cafeteria Brawl

Zhang Yangzi defends Xie Xie after Wei Xiaofeng provokes the group. When Yang Xin binds Fang Ming during the ensuing fight, Zhang Yangzi launches an immediate aerial counterattack and knocks Yang Xin down with his eagle claws. 20 21

During the investigation, he testifies that Wei Xiaofeng initiated the confrontation. He and the other members of Fang Ming’s group are required to compensate the cafeteria for the damage. 22

Practical Combat Class

Zhang Yangzi faces Xie Xie in a sparring match. He wins narrowly by using flight to evade Xie Xie’s ground-based attacks and counterattacking with eagle claws. 24
