They headed north along the coast, but saw scarcely any sign of civilization along the way.
It was not until the fuel in the motorboat was nearly exhausted that Roy finally spotted a small seaside town on the distant shoreline before sunset.
It looked like they would not make it to New York today. Roy brought Aisling ashore at the town's dock.
The idle dock manager was sitting on the pier, admiring the beautiful sunset, when he suddenly saw two unfamiliar children pull up in a motorboat.
"What's going on here?"
The dock manager approached Roy and Aisling, who had just jumped off the motorboat. Looking puzzled, he took the initiative to question Roy, who was sorting through their luggage.
"Hey, kids, where did you come from? Where are your parents?"
Faced with the manager's reasonable question, Aisling and Roy exchanged a glance. Roy then gave the explanation they had discussed beforehand.
"Sir, we were traveling and got separated from our parents. Could we use a phone to contact them?"
