Background

Dumbledore’s early life was shaped by the destruction of his family. His sister Ariana was traumatized by Muggles and developed an Obscurus; her suppressed magic later killed their mother, while their father was imprisoned in Azkaban after seeking revenge. Dumbledore’s resulting hatred of Muggles and his ambition drew him toward Gellert Grindelwald. 37

While neglecting Ariana and clashing with his brother Aberforth, Dumbledore joined Grindelwald in a three-way duel. A stray spell killed Ariana, and Grindelwald fled. Dumbledore regards Ariana as the first victim of his sins and believes his own ambition, prejudice, and failure to protect her contributed to her death. 37

His relationship with Grindelwald was romantic, not merely an intellectual partnership. Dumbledore later tells Roy that Ariana’s death made him realize he did not love Grindelwald as he had believed. Aisling subsequently discusses their youthful romance with Roy, and Grindelwald’s castle is explicitly described as belonging to Dumbledore’s former lover. 37 166 314

During Grindelwald’s rise, Dumbledore left the relative security of his work as Hogwarts’s Transfiguration professor to establish the Order of the Phoenix and oppose him. The deaths of his followers initially caused him intense anguish, but the conflict transformed him into a capable leader. During the later war against Voldemort, he became more accustomed to accepting losses, including sacrifices he recognized as pointless. 310

As a Hogwarts professor, Dumbledore personally recruited Tom Riddle from Wool’s Orphanage. He recognized Riddle’s evil tendencies but failed to guide him while occupied with Grindelwald, a mistake he considers partly responsible for the destruction Voldemort later caused. 4

More than seventy years later, Dumbledore returned to the same orphanage to recruit Roy Smee. Roy’s unusual talent and background reminded Dumbledore of Riddle, but Dumbledore judged him fundamentally kinder and chose to personally guide him. 2 4

After Ariana’s death, the Dumbledore ancestral home remained unoccupied, while Aberforth stayed at the Hog’s Head and Albus made Hogwarts his home. Dumbledore eventually gave the property in Godric’s Hollow to Roy, who rebuilt it as a home for himself and Mia. 37 170 191

Appearance

Dumbledore is an elderly, white-haired wizard over 110 years old, with slender aged hands and deep blue eyes. His usual gentle, eccentric presentation can abruptly give way to a cold and intimidating presence known as the White Lord. 37 68 243

  • White hair and an outwardly frail, elderly appearance 243
  • White beard and a tall, thin build 125 331
  • Deep blue eyes 246
  • Wears glasses 189
  • Often wears ornate robes, though he changes into plainer attire in private 137
  • Has worn a purple robe embroidered with stars and moons 158
  • Frequently maintains a smiling, muddle-headed façade around others 68

Personality

Dumbledore is calm, observant, and unusually patient with dangerous or unconventional students. When Roy threatens him during their first meeting, he responds with interest rather than anger, recognizing both the boy’s caution and magical potential. 2

He carries profound guilt over Ariana, Grindelwald, and Tom Riddle. This remorse informs his approach to Roy, Aisling, Mia, and Harry: he attempts to guide gifted children away from prejudice, isolation, destructive ambition, and Dark Magic without reducing them to their lineage or mistakes. 37 39 174

His kindly eccentricity is partly deliberate. In serious situations, Dumbledore becomes politically calculating and formidable, refusing to act impulsively against Elias Thorne without evidence despite recognizing the threat. He distinguishes himself from Grindelwald and Voldemort by insisting that authority must be exercised with restraint. 68

Dumbledore also has a playful, occasionally vain side. He enjoys imagining himself as a wise mentor, trades jokes with Roy, and can be visibly irritated when McGonagall delivers the life lesson he had planned to give Aisling. 68 274

His protective instincts sometimes manifest as secrecy and restrictions. He praises Roy’s achievements while insisting that a child should not bear responsibilities belonging to adults, and repeatedly withholds investigative details to discourage Roy from pursuing dangerous enemies. These methods frustrate Roy, who interprets them as evasiveness rather than reassurance. 91 210

Dumbledore is uncomfortable using his influence for personal protection even when he considers intervention necessary. His decision to prevent Roy’s Ministry trial leaves him privately embarrassed about abusing his authority, while his dealings with Gringotts show that he values identifying criminals over accepting a profitable settlement. 159 264

He retains intellectual curiosity and can admit when a student proves him wrong. Roy’s Phasing Charm renews his enthusiasm for unfamiliar magic; after attempting it and collapsing, he accepts Roy’s explanation that its dizziness must be managed through external equipment rather than eliminated from the spell itself. 274

Roy’s argument that great power entails responsibility forces Dumbledore to reconsider his lifelong tendency to avoid painful obligations. He moves from opposing Roy’s proposed Gringotts raid to actively supporting it, acknowledging the need to act before another preventable tragedy occurs. 304 305

Despite treating Hogwarts as his home, Dumbledore remains lonely and nostalgic for his lost family. After quietly watching Roy and Harry together, he returns to his room and reflects through dreams on childhood Christmases in the Dumbledore household. 331

Abilities & Skills

Magical Mastery

Dumbledore is regarded as one of the greatest wizards of the past several centuries. Elias Thorne considers him a wizard the American Ministry must respect and dismisses the prospect of defeating him. 47

  • Transfigured Roy’s pile of scavenged junk into a chair with a casual gesture. 2
  • Apparated Roy from Wool’s Orphanage to the Leaky Cauldron and back. 2 4
  • Cast a Confundus Charm on Ms. Rose during Roy’s recruitment. 2
  • Defeated fifteen elite Auror-level enforcers in the Forbidden Forest before they could meaningfully resist. 110
  • Created a Portkey to return Roy and Aisling to Britain after intervening against the American Ministry’s attempt to detain them. 125 126
  • Effortlessly blocked Roy’s mistakenly aimed Killing Curse with a magical barrier. 209
  • Created a golden barrier that contained a cloud of mind-altering Dark Magic and the cursed trophy releasing it. 243
  • Conjured green phoenix-shaped flames that destroyed the trophy’s Dark Magic. 243
  • Drained floodwater from Hogwarts’s third floor into the Black Lake with a single spell. 243
  • Transformed the Wizengamot courtroom’s wooden chair into an extravagant sofa with the Elder Wand. 294
  • Used a Knockback Jinx to eject Roy from his office after the boy mocked his age and tried to take his apples. 305
  • Silenced the moving portraits in the Grindelwald family gallery while privately addressing the empty space where Gellert’s portrait had hung. 312
  • Identified Echo Bird feathers as an ingredient in Roy’s Voice-Changer Potion after one taste, then restored his normal voice by tapping his wand against his throat. 335

Dumbledore’s Transfiguration expertise also informs McGonagall’s advanced teaching. Some of the techniques she passes to Aisling derive from lessons she received from him, and he is identified as the only British Transfiguration authority above McGonagall. 72

His strength does not make him infallible. After destroying the cursed trophy, he is too slow to turn against a surviving fragment approaching from behind; Roy’s Amaterasu prevents it from striking him. His attempt to reproduce Roy’s Phasing Charm similarly leaves him incapacitated by dizziness rather than demonstrating practical mastery of the spell. 243 274

Counter-Dark Magic

Dumbledore has extensive knowledge of Dark Magic, curses, and Voldemort’s methods. He identifies dangerous artifacts quickly and emphasizes that powerful magic reflects—and can corrupt—the caster’s inner state. 138 243

  • Recognized the cursed trophy as an object left by Voldemort and ordered an immediate evacuation. 243
  • Determined that the trophy’s magic resembled Horcrux creation, leading him to conclude that Voldemort survived through multiple Horcruxes. 246
  • Warns Roy that Unforgivable Curses require absolute malice and can affect the user’s mind. 138 139
  • Investigates threats against Roy, including the Floo Network hijacking, the attackers’ financial network, and a possible Vampire tracking spell. 210 265
  • Tested Mia’s inherited diamond with numerous spells and confirmed its ability to purify Dark Magic. 189
  • Recognized Roy’s lingering magic and Grindelwald’s presence at the site of Elias Thorne’s final battle. 124
  • Examined Harry’s magic after Mia’s outbreak and confirmed that his sacrificial protection remained intact. 158
  • Identified the threatening dagger’s North African mineral origin and nearly lost magical forging method. 219

He is knowledgeable about gemstones, ancient ritual magic, and protective magic based on love. He explains how gemstones store or enhance magic and lends Roy the book previously borrowed by Lily Potter so Roy can supply the protective spell needed for Mia’s treatment necklace. 189 247

During preparations against Tiago Brando, Dumbledore participates in a bluff involving a sinister-looking notebook supposedly linked to Voldemort’s curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. His apparent uncertainty is part of the deception used to draw in Professor Jobana and later occupy Tiago, rather than a confirmed identification of a new curse anchor. 310 324

Mentorship and Strategy

Dumbledore combines personal guidance with broad political influence. He supports gifted students while setting limits when their power or recklessness becomes dangerous. 37 210

  • Personally recruited, funded, and equipped Roy for Hogwarts after recognizing his potential. 2 4
  • Gave Roy a book on Ancient Magic and encouraged him to investigate the Hogwarts Vault cautiously. 37
  • Mediated between Roy and Aisling to prevent their conflict from becoming a wider House war. 39
  • Used his influence to prevent Roy’s Ministry trial after Mia’s Obscurus incident. 159
  • Authorized Roy to search for Voldemort’s artifacts under the condition that all discoveries be reported and not handled alone. 246
  • Arranged Roy’s summer internship with the director of St. Mungo’s. 139
  • Publicly recognized Roy’s rescue of Aisling, announced his Order of Merlin and school service award, and awarded Hufflepuff 150 points. 136
  • Coordinated with Newt Scamander and Nicolas Flamel over a necklace intended to extract, purify, and reintegrate Mia’s Obscurus gradually. 230
  • Helped devise a Gringotts trap with Aisling, using a glass imitation of the Horned Serpent Gem as bait. 253
  • Defended his guardianship of Mia before the Wizengamot through factual rebuttal, emotional persuasion, and the authority humorously described as his “Face Fruit.” 294
  • Supported Roy’s later Gringotts operation and agreed to approach Tonks about participating. 304 305
  • Used an apparently cordial Hogwarts lunch to keep Tiago Brando and Fudge occupied while Roy’s operation proceeded. 324
  • Appointed Roy as substitute Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for first- and second-year students, with authority to award and deduct House points. 336

Dumbledore’s strategic use of reputation is especially evident in the Wizengamot. Even while appearing as a defendant, he dominates the nominal prosecution and uses a sympathetic presentation of Mia’s suffering to influence the judges. When Umbridge challenges him, he deliberately lowers his stance to expose the political figure directing her intervention. 294 295

Power Progression

No formal magical ranks or cultivation stages are specified for Dumbledore. His progression is documented through established mastery, newly demonstrated techniques, and explicit limitations. 2 47 274

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Elder Wand — Used to examine magical objects, including the Saru family diamond, and to perform spells such as his courtroom Transfiguration. 189 294
  • Pensieve — Stores extracted memories; Dumbledore uses it to show Roy the tragedy of Ariana’s death. Numerous memory bottles surround it, and he says extracting memories helps clear his mind. 37 278
  • Ancient Magic book — A book left by one of Dumbledore’s seniors, given to Roy because only an Ancient Magic user can understand it. 37
  • Broken silver pendant — A keepsake connected to Dumbledore’s painful history with Grindelwald. He made it himself and later destroyed it with his own hands. 5
  • Prophecy Hookah — A skull-shaped Grindelwald-family artifact Dumbledore entrusts to Aisling to focus her visions. 39
  • Untitled book on love-based magic — An ancient book previously borrowed by Lily Potter; Dumbledore lends it to Roy for the protective magic needed in Mia’s treatment necklace. 247
  • Glass diamond imitation — A counterfeit of the Horned Serpent Gem created for the Gringotts bait operation. 253
  • Roy’s Medical / Hormone Gun — Temporarily handled after the trophy incident. Dumbledore’s interest in its defensive setting alarms the professors when Roy explains that it can fire a Killing Curse. 244
  • Private magical collection — Most of the treasures in the Headmaster’s office are described as Dumbledore’s personal property, with individual items valuable enough to purchase a Thestral. 312

Relationships

  • Roy Smee — Student, mentee, and frequent source of exasperation. Dumbledore personally recruits Roy because he fears repeating his failure with Tom Riddle, then becomes his guide, protector, and collaborator against Voldemort. Roy later saves him from the trophy’s surviving magic, teaches him the principles of the Phasing Charm, and persuades him to support a risky Gringotts operation. Dumbledore eventually entrusts Roy with teaching younger students. 4 37 246 243 274 304 336
  • Aisling Grindelwald — Student and the last survivor of her branch of the Grindelwald family. Dumbledore protects her from inherited suspicion, mediates her conflict with Roy, and gives her the Prophecy Hookah in trust. She helps devise the Gringotts bait operation, but her later political questioning reminds him of young Grindelwald and makes him reconsider the extremism she inherited from her upbringing. 39 68 253 296
  • Gellert Grindelwald — Former youthful companion and lover whose ambition and ideology contributed to Ariana’s death. Dumbledore later defeated him and holds their history as a warning against repeating past mistakes. During a return to Grindelwald’s castle, he privately praises Aisling as a kinder and better person than her great-uncle. 27 37 166 312 314
  • Tom Riddle / Voldemort — Former student whose descent into evil is Dumbledore’s greatest failure as an educator. Dumbledore considers Voldemort the shared enemy of the wizarding world. 4 37
  • Ariana Dumbledore — Younger sister whose death remains the central source of Dumbledore’s guilt and self-reproach. Roy’s determination to prevent Mia from suffering Ariana’s fate helps motivate Dumbledore’s renewed willingness to act. 37 304
  • Aberforth Dumbledore — Younger brother who condemned Dumbledore’s neglect of Ariana and opposed Grindelwald’s influence. 37
  • Minerva McGonagall — Deputy Headmistress and trusted colleague. She challenges Dumbledore’s optimism about Roy and Aisling, while also independently mentoring students under his care. Some of her advanced Transfiguration instruction draws on knowledge learned from Dumbledore. 5 68 72
  • Severus Snape — Colleague who warns Dumbledore about Elias Thorne and assists him against Voldemort’s Dark Magic. Snape communicates with him through the Order of the Phoenix, helps coordinate the Tiago operation, and is selected to cover Defense Against the Dark Arts for fifth year and above during Jobana’s absence. 68 243 124 324 336
  • Mia — Roy’s younger orphanage companion and an Obscurial. Dumbledore reassures her that she will not be executed, restricts Sebastian’s influence, and offers himself as a magical mentor through the Book of the Nameless. He becomes her guardian and defends that role before the Wizengamot when the Ministry attempts to blame her outbreak on inadequate supervision. 174 294 295
  • Harry Potter — Dumbledore maintains Harry’s residence with his relatives because Lily’s sacrificial protection depends on his blood connection to them. After Harry is injured by Mia’s outbreak, he accepts temporary placement with the Weasleys, provided Harry periodically returns to the Dursleys to preserve the protection. 139 158 159
  • Newt Scamander — Former student and expert on Obscurials. Dumbledore arranges for Mia to live with Newt for her safety and treatment. Newt serves as Secret-Keeper for Roy and Mia’s protected home and supports Dumbledore during Mia’s guardianship hearing. 190 218 294
  • Fawkes — Dumbledore’s phoenix companion, messenger, and means of transport. Fawkes delivers a summons to Roy, transports Dumbledore with Roy and Mia, and occasionally reacts irritably to the headmaster’s requests. 79 91 137 219
  • Remus Lupin — Trusted ally who appears when Dumbledore needs him. Dumbledore advocates for compensation after Lupin’s Gringotts ambush, but later reserves him for another unspecified role rather than including him in Roy’s raid. 264 265 304
  • Nymphadora Tonks — Student whom Dumbledore recommended for extracurricular Auror training. He agrees to approach her about joining Roy’s operation and rejects Roy’s objection that the mission should be restricted to adults by pointing out her age and training. 305
  • Cornelius Fudge — Minister for Magic whose attempt to remove Mia from Dumbledore’s guardianship exposes a political breach. Dumbledore responds by resigning as a Ministry adviser, later helps Roy investigate a suspected alliance involving Fudge, and keeps him occupied at the lunch staged during the Gringotts operation. 295 304 324
  • Dolores Umbridge — Ministry clerk who disrupts Mia’s guardianship hearing by questioning Dumbledore’s ability to supervise her. Dumbledore deliberately invites her opinion to draw out Fudge’s involvement. 294 295
  • Tiago Brando — Gringotts director whom Dumbledore initially presses for evidence rather than compensation. Dumbledore later helps distract him through the notebook examination and staged lunch, then returns with Aurors who arrest him on suspicion of murder and terrorist attacks. 264 324 325
  • Dia Jobana — Defense Against the Dark Arts professor drawn into the notebook deception involving her teacher, Tiago. After she kills the man described as her teacher and closest family member, Dumbledore allows time for her recovery in Egypt and arranges substitute instructors. 310 324 336
  • Elias Thorne — Politically protected American official whose schemes Dumbledore monitors cautiously. Elias’s great-grandfather, a former American Minister for Magic, had been Dumbledore’s close friend. 68

Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruiting Roy Smee

Dumbledore discovers Roy at Wool’s Orphanage, identifies him as a wizard, and offers him admission, financial support, and personal guidance. His unusual involvement stems from Roy’s resemblance to Tom Riddle: both are extraordinarily gifted orphans from the same institution, but Dumbledore believes Roy can choose a different path. 2 4

He personally accompanies Roy through Diagon Alley, introduces him to members of the magical community, pays for his robes and two wands, and supplies a student allowance. The attention and generosity shown by shopkeepers illustrate Dumbledore’s standing, while his insistence on paying Madam Malkin demonstrates his unwillingness to simply exploit their respect. 3 4

During Roy’s Sorting, Dumbledore retrieves the Sword of Gryffindor after the Sorting Hat drops it on the boy’s head. He treats the incident as a joke and promises to discuss it with Roy later. 14

Preventing History from Repeating

Dumbledore sees echoes of his own history with Grindelwald in Roy and Aisling. He urges Roy not to treat Slytherin as an enemy, trusts Aisling despite her family legacy, and tries to turn their rivalry away from ideological conflict. 5 37 39

His protection of Aisling predates her enrollment. When the surviving Grindelwald followers are being hunted, he offers shelter, with her attendance at Hogwarts forming part of that protection. Their elder Wolf resents Dumbledore for imprisoning Grindelwald but accepts the arrangement for Aisling’s safety. 5

Dumbledore emphasizes that prophecy depends on interpretation rather than guaranteeing a fixed future. His gift of the Prophecy Hookah is accompanied by a warning that Grindelwald’s excessive trust in his visions contributed to his downfall. 39

Opposing Elias Thorne

Although Snape warns him that Elias is manipulating House divisions, Dumbledore refuses to move against a politically protected American official without proof. When Elias’s forces act openly, Dumbledore intervenes in the Forbidden Forest and defeats fifteen enforcers immediately. 68 110

After the school’s Dark Magic attacks, Dumbledore checks on Roy in the Hospital Wing, confirms that Aisling was not responsible, and escorts him home. Following a later incident, he excludes Roy from further investigation and warns him and his friends against entering the Forbidden Forest or moving around alone. 79 91

At the site of Elias’s final battle, Dumbledore identifies Roy’s magic and senses that Grindelwald had been present. Despite condemning the dead attackers’ choices, he insists that their bodies deserve burial and that the American Ministry be informed. 124

He subsequently confronts American agents attempting to arrest Roy and Aisling, refuses to surrender his students, and arranges their return to Britain by Portkey. Roy is then admitted to St. Mungo’s with extensive injuries. 125 126

At the end-of-term feast, Dumbledore announces Elias’s death and publicly honors Roy for rescuing Aisling. His award of 150 House points gives Hufflepuff the House Cup. He later explains that his continued work in America included seeking compensation for Roy and handling confidential Grindelwald family matters. 136 139

Protecting Roy and Mia

After Mia’s Obscurus outbreak and Roy’s legal troubles, Dumbledore arranges Ministry monitoring for Mia, seeks a safer arrangement for Harry, and uses his authority to have the charges against Roy dropped. 159 174

He reassures Mia about her survival and future, explains why the orphanage children’s memories were erased, and places a teaching memory of himself inside the Book of the Nameless. He also agrees to keep Sebastian and the book’s secret from Roy. 174

When Roy and Mia are attacked again, Dumbledore confines them at Hogwarts temporarily, protects their home with the Fidelius Charm, and forbids Roy from confronting the attackers alone. 210

The home’s protection is entrusted to Newt Scamander as Secret-Keeper. Dumbledore also arranges access to Newt’s secluded residence and continues seeking treatment for Mia’s Obscurus. 191 218

He presents the necklace developed by Newt and Nicolas Flamel, explaining that the Horned Serpent Gem can power a process that gradually extracts and purifies Mia’s Obscurus before reintegrating its magic. Because she may need the necklace until adulthood, simply handing the gem to Dumbledore for safekeeping is not a viable solution. 230

To complete the necklace’s protection, Dumbledore lends Roy a book on love-based magic once borrowed by Lily Potter. He judges Roy, as Mia’s only family, the best person to cast the required spell and privately hopes the boy can meet the greater difficulty of protecting rather than destroying. 247

Investigating Voldemort’s Legacy

Dumbledore destroys the Dark Magic within Tom Riddle’s trophy, concludes that Voldemort created multiple Horcruxes, and authorizes Roy to help locate additional relics under strict supervision. 243 246

The trophy incident also exposes a limit to his vigilance. A fragment survives among the wreckage and attacks while he drains the flooded floor; Snape warns him, but Roy’s Amaterasu destroys it before Dumbledore can turn in time. 243

He continues investigating the wider conspiracy targeting Roy, uncovering evidence linking Gringotts personnel to the Floo Network attack and warning Roy of a possible Vampire connection. 265

Together with Aisling, he devises a trap involving heightened Gringotts security, rumors of a priceless target, and a glass substitute for Mia’s gem. After Lupin is ambushed inside the bank and eleven Goblins are killed, Dumbledore rejects Tiago Brando’s offer of 25,000 Galleons in favor of obtaining evidence about the attackers. He secures documents and 500 Galleons for Lupin’s medical expenses. 253 264

Defending Mia’s Guardianship

Dumbledore appears as a defendant before the Wizengamot over allegations that his inadequate supervision allowed Mia’s Obscurus to erupt in Godric’s Hollow and injure Aurors. He instructs Roy to remain silent and challenges the prosecution’s omission of the attackers who assaulted Mia first. His defense reframes her as the victim and requests restoration of his custody and removal of her from the Ministry’s high-priority surveillance list. 294

The apparently prearranged hearing is disrupted by Umbridge, who questions how Dumbledore can supervise Mia while running Hogwarts. Dumbledore invites her proposed solution, drawing Fudge into openly advocating that the Ministry take control of Mia. 294 295

Dumbledore counters Fudge’s claim that he holds too many responsibilities by offering to resign as a Ministry adviser so he can devote more time to Mia. Fudge eagerly accepts the prospect of being freed from his oversight. 295

Supporting the Gringotts Operation

Roy approaches Dumbledore with a key recovered from an attacker and a plan to investigate the associated vault. Dumbledore initially opposes a bank raid, but his own visit to Gringotts confirms Roy’s warning: the Goblins claim that the vault cannot be opened and offer compensation instead. 304

Roy argues that the suspected alliance with Fudge and disregard for due process must be confronted before they cause an irreversible disaster. His invocation of Ariana and the principle that great power brings responsibility makes Dumbledore reconsider his own failures to act, and he agrees to support the operation. 304

Dumbledore helps discuss escape arrangements and agrees to recruit Tonks rather than include Lupin, whom he has in mind for another role. He also assists with the notebook deception aimed at Jobana and Tiago and attends preparations at the Grindelwald ancestral castle. 305 310 312 314

On the operation day, Dumbledore uses the notebook examination and a Hogwarts lunch to keep Tiago and Fudge occupied. Although outwardly composed, he grows anxious when Roy fails to report and is preparing to intervene personally when Snape brings him away. He returns with Kingsley and Ministry Aurors, who arrest Tiago on suspicion of murder and terrorist attacks. 324

Dumbledore rejects Tiago’s assumption that the trap was solely his plan, stating that he was not the person Tiago had crossed. Later that night, he returns with Aisling from Gringotts and makes his first open visit to Roy’s Special Operations Office, where he announces an agreement reached with Fudge. 325 327

Arranging Substitute Defense Against the Dark Arts Teachers

Following Jobana’s killing of her teacher and closest family member, Dumbledore allows her time to recover in Egypt and arranges temporary coverage for her classes. He assigns Snape to fifth year and above, Quirrell to third and fourth years, and Roy to the first and second years. 336

Dumbledore gives Roy authority over House points, which the boy immediately uses to award Hufflepuff ten points. Alongside the teaching appointment, he reminds Roy to continue investigating the curse on the Defense Against the Dark Arts position. 336
