That evening, after spending half the day teaching first- and second-years and attending two lessons himself, Roy rounded off his packed schedule after dinner with another visit to Snape's office for his private extracurricular potions tutoring.

When Roy shuffled into the Potions Office with his head drooping, Snape took one look at his listless state and, as expected of the most caustic person in all of Hogwarts, began mocking the exhausted boy.

"Laziness positively oozes from your bones. You merely taught the first- and second-years two lessons. Look at you, utterly listless. Are you planning to add your drool to your cauldron while brewing?"

Roy had no desire whatsoever to respond to Snape's barbs. He walked straight to the cauldron resting on the potions workbench. At the sight of his thick potion, now clear and transparent, his mental exhaustion was swept clean away.

"It's nearly done, isn't it?"

Roy looked up at Snape, who stood at his desk calmly sorting through students' assignments. His tired voice could barely contain his excitement.

"Tomorrow at the latest. At the earliest, it could be finished tonight."

"That's wonderful."

Hearing Snape's answer, Roy finally got what he had been hoping for so long and burst into delighted laughter. Snape knew he intended to use this potion to save his younger sister. Seeing Roy beside himself with joy, the man who normally could not bear to see anyone happy made a rare choice not to mock his exuberance. He merely shook his head and gave a faintly disdainful snort.

Twenty minutes later, Roy pointed his wand at the cauldron and recited the final incantation with perfect precision. As vast amounts of invisible magic flowed into the potion through the spell, Snape swiftly added the fenugreek leaf powder he had prepared beforehand, along with strong liquor.
