Background / History

Tsunade is Mito Uzumaki's granddaughter, Nawaki Senju's older sister, and a direct descendant of the First Hokage. Though born into the Senju and Uzumaki bloodlines, she initially resists the expectation that she should revive or lead the Senju Clan. 81 112

She trained under the Third Hokage alongside Jiraiya and Orochimaru, eventually becoming one of Konoha's Sannin. Her medical skill and battlefield work earn her exceptional prestige among Konoha's shinobi, many of whom regard her as the natural candidate to succeed the Third Hokage. 48 76 81

During an encounter with the rogue Amegakure identity Hattori Masanari, Tsunade recognizes that Konoha chunin were at fault for the preceding conflict and disciplines them. She nevertheless confronts Masanari herself, both to protect Konoha's standing and to prevent a potentially dangerous rogue ninja from leaving freely. 80 81 Her first meeting with Kirito under his true identity occurs later at Nawaki's home; grateful for his positive influence on Nawaki, she immediately treats him as family and asks him to call her “Big Sis.” 96
