Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is a Shrek Academy-affiliated Martial Soul theorist who regards himself as the continent’s foremost authority on Martial Souls. He claims authorship of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul and repeatedly invokes his reputation as the “Grandmaster of Martial Soul Theory” when challenged 1 4.

When the Sky Screen begins broadcasting across eras, Yu immediately starts advising Ye Chen despite not recognizing either the Three-Eyed Golden Lion or Heavenly Snow Woman. He dismisses both as likely “trash Martial Souls,” recommending that the former follow a support path and the latter a control path 1. His advice draws immediate opposition from future-era Soul Masters, beginning a prolonged series of livestream arguments.

The screen repeatedly exposes phenomena outside Yu’s established framework: unusually old Soul Rings, multi-attribute Martial Souls, million-year Soul Rings, Battle Armor, Soul Tools, Ferocious Beasts, and Soul Spirits. Rather than revise his conclusions, he generally insists that the evidence is impossible or that his theories remain correct 3 7 14 32 36.

Ning Rongrong eventually identifies the anonymous “theory master” as Yu Xiaogang from his fixation on the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon and his claims of theoretical mastery. Her public attack forces him to conceal his cultivation and fuels his determination to identify and retaliate against his critics 27.

Yu is the son of Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan leader Yu Yuanzhen. Yu Tianheng later states that the clan did not scorn Yu for his inability to reach three rings, using this history to condemn his subsequent contempt for the clan’s Martial Soul 49 74.

His anonymity erodes in stages. After Yu demands that Flender expel a supposed twelve-year-old Shrek student who challenged him online, Flender recognizes him as the livestream commentator and spreads the discovery through Shrek’s older faculty. The same conversation teaches Yu that he can fabricate his cultivation level because chat identities cannot easily be verified 42. He subsequently claims to be a Titled Douluo 45.

Ye Chen’s research into later-era records reveals that Yu and Liu Erlong eventually have descendants despite Yu’s promise that they would remain only spiritual companions. Mu En belongs to this lineage, and Luo Sanpao’s mutation is identified as the origin of its Light Sacred Dragon inheritance 48 49. Once Yu understands this connection, he shifts from promoting the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon to promoting the Light Sacred Dragon 49 50.

His online disputes eventually produce direct consequences. He accidentally accepts Tang Wulin’s duel invitation and suffers a decisive defeat in the Sky Screen’s protected arena 61 62. After further insults toward Ning Rongrong, she brings Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo to Shrek Academy, abducts Yu while he sleeps, and beats him inside a sack. He awakens the following morning with serious injuries and little understanding of what occurred afterward 70 71.

Yu Tianheng and Yu Tianxin later expose his identity publicly while rebuking him for disparaging the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. Yu denies their accusations out of fear that the commentator’s repeated humiliations will destroy his reputation. Yun Ming and Long Yeyue consult historical records and recognize him as Grandmaster Yu Xiaogang of the Golden Iron Triangle, helping the livestream participants establish that they come from different eras 74 75.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is proud, defensive, and intensely dependent on his intellectual reputation. He treats disagreement as disrespect toward his status, often demanding to know whether critics are qualified to challenge a man who “taught a god” 1 4.

His confidence masks a pronounced insecurity over his mutated Martial Soul and limited cultivation. He reacts especially badly to being called “trash,” refuses to disclose his age or Soul Power when challenged, and records the chat identification numbers of those who humiliate him 5 27.

He is also stubbornly attached to familiar institutions and legacies. He exalts Tang San, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, control-type Soul Masters, and conventional Soul Ring cultivation even when later-era evidence contradicts his assumptions 7 14 15 23.

His attachment to a Martial Soul’s prestige is strongly self-serving. After learning that the Light Sacred Dragon descends from his own mutation, he abruptly claims that he has always regarded it as superior to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. He then belittles Body Martial Souls, Blue Silver Grass, and even his clan’s original Martial Soul, contradicting his maxim that no Martial Soul is useless 49 50 74.

Yu increasingly uses anonymity to avoid accountability. He fabricates Titled Douluo cultivation, rejects duel invitations and friend requests, and assumes that his identity cannot be traced 42 45 60. When a duel is accidentally accepted, his arrogance gives way to anxiety because he cannot rely on Liu Erlong, Flender, or their fusion technique inside the arena 61. His later public denial of his identity likewise reflects his fear of disgrace 75.

He occasionally approaches self-doubt but quickly suppresses it. Zhang Lexuan’s hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring briefly makes him consider that his Soul Ring theories could be wrong, yet he refuses to revise them 54. He also interprets Yun Ming’s restraint as fear rather than recognizing that Yun Ming is trying to protect Shrek’s reputation 76.

His institutional loyalty extends to explicit double standards. During the dispute over Dai Huabin and Wu Feng injuring Ye Chen, Yu insists that only Shrek can realize Ye Chen and Di Qiu’er’s potential. He agrees with the proposition that successful geniuses validate the academy while unsuccessful students bear the blame themselves, although he is subsequently surprised by the future leadership’s brazenness 83.

Yu’s principal expertise is his body of Martial Soul theory, particularly the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul. His interpretations are influential in his own era but are repeatedly challenged by Soul Masters from later eras.

Yu can correctly identify some Martial Souls, including Xie Huanyue’s Rubber Elephant and Xu Sanshi’s awakened Black Tortoise 21 78. However, Qian Renxue notices that his Black Tortoise explanation exactly matches Spirit Hall’s Complete Compendium of Martial Souls, which does not list him as its compiler. This raises her suspicion that his supposedly original theories may have been borrowed from Spirit Hall; the passage presents this as her suspicion rather than a conclusively established finding 78.

His belief in control-type superiority is partly rooted in watching Bibi Dong repeatedly defeat stronger opponents with the Death Spider Emperor. Ye Chen later criticizes Yu’s influence on her control-focused development. The narrative clarifies that Bibi Dong had already chosen her overall path before meeting Yu, although he repeatedly praised the Martial Soul’s suitability for control 84 85.

Luo Sanpao

Yu Xiaogang’s Martial Soul is Luo Sanpao, a mutation related to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon lineage. He publicly insists on treating it as a Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul, despite its altered form and limited cultivation results 27.
