"Is it good?"
In the apartment, Li Ang watched Kara treat the bowl of egg fried rice before her with extreme seriousness.
"Y-Yeah, it's good."
If Kara hadn't been frowning, Li Ang might have believed her.
"How does it compare to that Chinese restaurant we went to before?"
"About the same."
Kara then wolfed down the entire bowl of egg fried rice.
It wasn't exactly bad, just a little bland.
People new to cooking either didn't dare add seasonings or dumped them in recklessly. Li Ang belonged to the former category.
Afterward, Li Ang ate some himself and thought it was alright.
"Alright, I'm heading out to work. Be careful at home by yourself."
"Got it."
Although he had gained Superman-like strength, Li Ang's life had not changed much.
Someone had once said that superpowers were no match for money.
Spider-Man, Peter Parker, couldn't pay off the loan Aunt May had left behind.
Superman, Clark Kent, had even had the farm left by his adoptive parents repossessed by the bank.
Besides them, many superheroes lived tight, impoverished lives.
Li Ang had no intention of saying, "I don't eat beef," nor did he want to become Homelander, let alone some ancestor-man.
Especially since this was Gotham. He had even less desire to be targeted by some tights-wearing freak.
Li Ang had lived a low-desire life in his previous life, and he was the same now. He only wanted a stable life, to make his days better, and to raise Kara into healthy adulthood.
He was used to being an ordinary person, not some savior.
For an ordinary person, wasn't having a job—and even becoming a manager—pretty good?
As for whatever dirty business Penguin was involved in, what did it have to do with him?
He would not let the phrase "with great power comes great responsibility" morally blackmail him.
As Li Ang walked down the street, he felt warmth spreading through his body, as though some power were slowly growing within him.
Although Gotham rarely saw the sun directly, solar energy was everywhere, and Li Ang slowly absorbed it.
"Iceberg Lounge."
Business was open as usual today, as though nothing had happened yesterday.
Now that Li Ang was the bar manager, he naturally did not need to do everything himself.
Unless a customer specifically requested his cocktails, or he needed to deliver drinks to Penguin and the others.
However, Penguin did not show up all day.
Even his lackeys were barely seen.
With Penguin absent, the two managers were the highest-ranking people around. Li Ang was not any more relaxed; instead, he had even more to do.
Still, for Franklin's sake, he remained diligent.
Before long, it was deep into the night.
The casino had thinned out, with everyone gathering around the bar instead, making Li Ang and the others busier.
The bunny-girl-clad waitresses had all made a killing. Even the hems of their clothes, wherever there were gaps, were stuffed full of tips.
"Bang!"
In the midst of the drunken revelry, a group of people suddenly burst in through the entrance.
They were highly organized and dressed alike. Though they were not as formally suited and tied as Penguin's men, they were clearly no ordinary group.
The moment they entered, they immediately fired into the air.
"Ahhh!"
The crowd instantly descended into chaos. No one stayed to watch; driven by the instinct to survive, they hurriedly fled with their heads covered.
Only a few people seemed experienced. They immediately found somewhere to crouch, either in a corner or crawling straight beneath the gambling tables.
Then the largest-scale gunfight Li Ang had ever seen erupted.
Many innocent socialites and wealthy young women fell, their pristine clothes instantly stained red with blood.
Penguin's few remaining men did not sit around waiting to die. They immediately pulled out weapons and returned fire.
As for the intruders, they fired wildly as if bullets cost nothing.
Li Ang did not remain idle either. His reaction speed was extremely fast, and the moment the group burst in, he pulled down the woman chatting beside him and crouched with her.
This white woman had said she was from South Africa and was unfamiliar with Gotham. She had been planning to invite him to "look around" Gotham with her.
Li Ang had not yet decided whether to accept when this happened.
"Call the police!"
Li Ang shouted at her as she stood there, half-frozen with fear.
If she really was from South Africa, then she had certainly gotten a taste of the American experience.
Or rather, the Gotham experience.
The woman shakily pulled out her phone and dialed 911, only to find that the line was busy.
Just then, Li Ang felt a sharp pain in his arm.
He raised it and saw a "bullet mark" on his arm, yet it had not broken through his skin.
Moreover, the mark healed at an astonishing speed.
Superhuman physique!
Li Ang must have drawn the level of power Kara currently possessed.
Otherwise, the bullet would not have left even the slightest mark on his body.
Seeing this, Li Ang immediately felt at ease.
Sure enough, a good body was important if you wanted to survive in Gotham.
And in that brief span of time, Penguin's men had already been completely wiped out.
There had been fewer of them left than usual, and the other side was elite. They could not hold out for long while outnumbered.
For a moment, the entire Iceberg Lounge fell into an eerie silence.
All that could be heard were heavy breaths and the sobs of women.
"Everyone, get over here and gather together. Don't move around, or the bullets won't have eyes!"
"We're not here to slaughter everyone. Be smart!"
The group quickly took control of the scene.
Penguin's men were all dead, so naturally no one else dared cause trouble. They obediently gathered together.
"Miss Sophia, it's secure."
At that moment, a voice spoke.
"Click, click!"
The sound of high heels echoed through the silent lounge.
The sound was faint, but Li Ang's enhanced hearing picked it up clearly. He could even form a three-dimensional image of it, as though he could pinpoint her position in his mind.
The clicking of high heels stopped, and the woman had arrived at the center.
She swept her gaze around, taking in the bedraggled socialites, then smiled. "Don't worry, everyone. We may be gangsters, but we're not lunatics who kill people for no reason."
"As long as you behave, I guarantee you'll live. Of course, don't expect the police to come save you. They're as obedient as dogs in front of me."
"Oh, right. I forgot to introduce myself."
"I'm Sophia Falcone!"
Someone in the crowd clearly knew Sophia's name. Even those who did not trembled upon hearing the surname Falcone.
Sophia Falcone, Carmine Falcone's daughter, and the legitimate heir of the Falcone Family.
She was violent and full of rage, earning her the name The Butcher.
Seeing how quiet the crowd was, she asked with satisfaction, "Now tell me. Penguin isn't here, so who's in charge?"
One of her men grabbed a bartender, who immediately said in terror, "It's not me!"
"Then who is it?"
The bartender immediately pointed in Li Ang's direction.
At that moment, Li Ang had an arm around the South African woman, mainly to comfort her.
Sophia got the answer she wanted and immediately drew her pistol, shooting the bartender dead with a single shot.
"I hate traitors."
Sophia Falcone blew lightly across the muzzle of her gun and smiled faintly at Li Ang.
