Li Ang became Kara Zor-El’s godfather after helping her emerge from a crashed spaceship. He entered Gotham under a false identity and struggled to support Kara while protecting their secret. His first job was illegal dishwashing in Chinatown, but a false accusation against him drove him away from the district. He later found work at Penguin’s Iceberg Lounge through his familiarity with drink recipes. 4 12

Penguin promoted Li Ang to bar manager after taking notice of both his usefulness and his attachment to Kara. Li Ang accepted the higher salary but remained wary of becoming involved in organized crime.
