History
Founding
Lu Chen formed Abyss after choosing to hide in the Abyss Sea Eye rather than join the Dragon Clan or establish a Black Tortoise faction. The Abyssal Womb Membrane created an inner realm within his shell, intended as a concealed refuge from future calamities and the fate awaiting the Northern Sea Black Tortoise. 1
Its first residents were members of the Sea Spirit Clan, whom Lu Chen sheltered for one hundred years while they fled Dragon Clan persecution. Rather than leaving when the term ended, the refugees built homes, spirit fields, training grounds, records offices, and the Northern Darkness Dao Palace. 1 3
From Refuge to City
During Lu Chen's ten-thousand-year seclusion, Abyss grew into a multi-clan settlement centered on Abyss Divine City. Though Lu Chen ordered the removal of “Divine” from the city’s name and repeatedly rejected imperial status, its residents came to regard him as the Mysterious Abyss Emperor. 4
The Book of Cause and Effect gave Abyss a system for examining newcomers, identifying dangerous karma, and assigning residence according to risk. Under Lan Shuang's administration, this became the Bureau of Cause and Effect and the Register of Ten Thousand Tribes. 4 5
The first formal judgments established that collective origin did not determine individual guilt. Lady Mingzhu and the Mystic Clam Tribe were cleared for the inner city, while the Redfin Tribe chief and his accomplices were expelled for their crimes. Uninvolved Redfin members were allowed to remain in the Outer City under a thousand-year labor sentence. The expelled chief subsequently supplied information about Abyss to the Blackwater Dragon Palace. 5
After the suppression of Han Jue's challenge to Abyss's administration, Lan Shuang proposed Abyss Academy to teach cultivation, rules, and calamity avoidance. Lu Chen supplied the universally applicable Abyss Stillness Art, restricting its transmission to the Academy. The Academy's operation and the clans' recognition of the method further stabilized the Womb Membrane and accelerated the growth of the Northern Dark Spirit Veins. 6 7
Emergence as a Defensive Power
Abyss’s concealment failed to prevent Dragon Clan attention. Its Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Formation suppressed intruders, including Ao Lie and his three hundred Dragon Clan elites; Ao Lie was instead sentenced to guard Abyss’s outskirts for one thousand years. 9
Dragon-Suppressing Pass was subsequently built as a defensive border linked to Abyss’s formation and Womb Membrane. During the Blackwater Dragon King’s invasion, the Abyss Dharma Body—formed from the membrane, formation, and Lu Chen’s divine sense—repelled a Great Luo Golden Immortal without exposing Lu Chen’s true body. 10 12 15
The battle also strengthened Abyss's foundations. The formation absorbed its aftermath, the Book of Cause and Effect accumulated law from the dragon soldiers' slaughter karma, and the Womb Membrane absorbed part of the Blackwater Law released by the Blackwater Dragon Pearl. As new spiritual veins emerged, the inner realm's spiritual energy density increased by thirty percent over several hundred years. 17
Abyss later reorganized Dragon-Suppressing Pass into an outer gate commanded by Ao Lie and an inner gate protected by Ancestor Xuan Jia and the Black-Shelled Turtle Tribe. The Northern Sea-Calming Stele Fragment linked both gates, while the Turtle Tribe reinforced the realm's earth veins, Womb Membrane, and defensive arrays. 19
Recognized Sanctuary
Abyss’s authority grew after it accepted branches connected to all three great clans under the same laws. The Ancestral Dragon left a Reverse Scale to guide endangered Dragon Clan bloodlines there; Yuanfeng allowed the Frost Phoenix Lineage to remain; and Primordial Qilin entrusted the Water Qilin branch with an Earth-Vein Seal. 32 35 37
These tokens strengthened the realm while establishing Abyss as a potential retreat for survivors of the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans—not a military extension of any of them. 32 37
The Frostflame Phoenix Feather became the Frostflame Parasol Tree beside the Northern Darkness Sea, providing the Frost Phoenix Lineage with an independent ancestral foundation within Abyss. The Primordial Qilin's Earth-Vein Seal formed Mysterious Peak Mountain and enabled the Water Qilin branch to stabilize Abyss’s land veins. 35 37
The coexistence of the three clans also brought inherited grievances into Abyss. A quarrel outside the Academy escalated into a confrontation among their younger members, prompting Lu Chen to establish the Calamity-Resolution Hall. Residents could register old grudges for causal judgment, but using those grudges to justify new private violence would result in expulsion. 38
Great Tribulation Refuge
As the Dragon-Han Cataclysm escalated, Abyss developed rescue preparations, medical training, and temporary truces for wounded enemies. Its three-day rescue rule suspended old grudges so that treatment could take priority over vengeance. 45
During the first large-scale treatment effort, Feng Li, Ao Lie, and Lin Yue treated wounded members of rival clans, and more than seventy percent of the first arrivals survived the three-day period. This operation condensed the embryonic form of Abyss's medical Fortune. 45
The completed Three Lives Gate formalized Abyss’s status as a sanctuary. It admits those seeking survival while rejecting spies, demonic cultivators, and contenders for supremacy; later, it also purified vengeful battlefield souls into Realm-Guarding Yin Soldiers. 47 49
When the Dragon-Han Final Battle began, Abyss opened its gates to qualified young, weak, wounded, and non-murderous refugees. It processed Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin descendants through the Young Clans Court, treated wounded combatants in rescue zones, settled ordinary refugee tribes in the Outer City, and registered willing dead souls as Realm-Guarding Yin Soldiers. 50 54
During the final retreat, Luohou struck the three Abyss Bridges carrying the young and wounded into the sanctuary. Lu Chen used his Old Shell to bear all three demonic strikes, allowing the last refugees to enter, and then placed Abyss in its highest calamity-avoidance state as the Dao-Demon War approached. 58
Abyss thereby preserved the flame seeds of the three clans without accepting the karmic burden of their competition for supremacy. Following the cataclysm, it became a repository of surviving lineages and a path of survival for the next generation of the Primordial World. 56 60
Post-Cataclysm Order
After the Dragon-Han Cataclysm, Abyss formally declared that it would preserve the embers of the old era without inheriting its hegemony. Residents could retain their Dragon, Phoenix, Qilin, or other clan identities, return to ancestral lands, and preserve their inheritances, but no former hegemonic offices or external bloodline decrees could govern within Abyss. 68
The resulting settlement severed the karmic burden of the three clans’ struggle for supremacy from Abyss. The Ancestral Dragon’s Reverse Scale, Yuanfeng’s Frost Feather, and Primordial Qilin’s Earth-Vein Seal remained only as marks of preserved inheritance rather than sources of political authority. 68
Abyss later established the Abyss Registry to resolve conflicts between original clan identity, Demon Court registration, and residence in Abyss. Long-term residents retain their original affiliations, but Abyss law takes priority within the Three Lives Gate; residents who wish to fulfill external duties must leave voluntarily. 101 102
Nuwa and Administrative Autonomy
Nuwa visited Abyss after following a faint karmic connection to the Northern Sea. She passed the Three Lives Gate, where the connection settled upon the Old Shell, and subsequently toured the realm with it while Lu Chen's true body remained concealed. 114 115
After attaining Sainthood, Nuwa returned to thank Mysterious Abyss. Observing Abyss's young clans had influenced her understanding that the Human Clan should have room to learn, grow, and choose its own path. Mysterious Abyss accepted the benevolent cause associated with Abyss's example but rejected any claim to the Merit of creating humanity. 125
As the Old Shell's independent identity developed, it began handling Abyss's affairs without Lu Chen's constant control. It resolved a Spirit Field dispute between the Mystic Clam Tribe and Cold Sand Clan by converting past investments into merit and assigning future profits according to contributions assessed every hundred years. It also approved expansion of the Academy and Calamity-Resolution Hall while refusing to extend Realm Guard patrols. 128 130
Northern Sea Network
Abyss refused repeated invitations to become part of the Demon Court or accept the title of Northern Sea Emperor. Instead, Lu Chen and Di Jun negotiated an arrangement under which the Demon Court would not forcibly conscript Abyss-registered tribes, Abyss would not encourage rebellion, and innocent beings facing unjust persecution could still seek judgment and refuge through the Three Lives Gate. 100 135
After the destruction of the counterfeit Mysterious Abyss Divine Court, Abyss’s reputation for impartial justice attracted more than a hundred Northern Sea clans seeking relocation near the Three Lives Gate. To avoid territorial expansion, Lan Shuang proposed Three Lives Post Stations: neutral relay points providing communication, temporary shelter, and evacuation routes without claiming land, collecting taxes, or stationing permanent troops. 138
The network eventually expanded to sixty-seven post stations. By connecting them through Northern Sea water veins and the Abyss Escape Realm Chapter, Abyss can project its Dharma Body and defensive influence across much of the Northern Sea while keeping Lu Chen’s true body concealed. 139 148
The theft of 31,462 souls from the Sixty-First Post Station prompted an early long-distance deployment. Lu Chen relayed his Dharma Body through the network, traced the Nether Spring Lineage toward the Fifty-Seventh Post Station, and confronted its cultivators. Ancestor Youquan withdrew them and the stolen souls through a spatial crack, but the strengthened karmic connection exposed the Extreme Yin Trench to Lu Chen. 148
Netherworld Connection and Reincarnation
A connection between the Three Lives Gate and the Netherworld exposed the Northern Sea to spreading death qi. When traces entered the Northern Darkness Sea, the Abyss Sea Eye drew away their pure Death Rule. Lu Chen then used his Abyss Great Dao to absorb the million-li tide of death energy, clearing the danger around the gate and revealing the souls and True Spirits within it. This strengthened Houtu's thoughts of Reincarnation. 155 156
When the first dead souls entered Reincarnation, the number accumulated at the Three Lives Gate fell by more than half. Observing their passage, Lu Chen recognized that Abyss's return of dead plants, beasts, and spirit veins to the world also supplied the foundations for new life. He joined the Life Law and Death Law into a cycle around Abyss, forming the rudimentary Life and Death Abyss Great Dao. 164
Minghe later visited and immediately sensed that the deepest part of Abyss now contained an aura of life and death distinct from Netherworld Reincarnation. His Blood God Child subsequently tested Mysterious Abyss's newly formed Abyss Life and Death Wheel within the realm. 167 168
Rumors that Mysterious Abyss had foreseen Reincarnation led Abyss to clarify its limits. Mysterious Abyss established four rules declaring that Abyss would not detain souls, judge them, or redirect their destination, and that anyone seizing souls in its name would be punished. Di Jun also ordered the Demon Clan not to use Reincarnation as a pretext to probe the Three Lives Gate. 170
Post-Station Justice
The post stations' neutrality did not erase wrongdoing committed before entry. Bloodbone Daoist attempted to invoke the rule ending hostilities inside a station after killing twelve Azure-Pattern Tribe cultivators. A Cause and Effect Mirror exposed the killings, and Mysterious Abyss appeared through the Three Lives Mirror to explain that temporary shelter did not cancel prior karma. 181
Mysterious Abyss killed Bloodbone Daoist with the Death Wheel, and the station steward recovered the stolen Profound Yin Blood Ginseng for the Azure-Pattern Tribe. The incident distinguished protection against outside threats from immunity for blood debts owed to Abyss's people. 181
Ten Suns Refuge and Further Settlement
When the ten Golden Crows brought devastating heat to the Primordial World, Ao Lie and Lan Shuang directed threatened Water Clan tribes toward the Three Lives Post Stations and prepared their retreat to Abyss. Lu Chen declined to enter the Witch-Demon conflict and instead deployed the Ninefold Netherworld Cold Spring, distributing its water and profound yin dao patterns to all sixty-seven stations to reinforce their defenses against solar true fire. 186
The Azurewing, Inkfeather, and Redtail Clans, whose homelands had been destroyed by the ten suns, later applied for permanent settlement despite their Demon Court affiliations. Mysterious Abyss ordered that they be judged under the existing causal rules rather than excluded by origin. Their outstanding obligations to the Demon Court remained their own responsibility, and they were forbidden to use Abyss's name to oppress others. 202
All three chiefs passed the formal audit through the Fifth Post Station's Cause and Effect Grand Formation. The Bureau of Cause and Effect entered their clans in the Register of Ten Thousand Tribes, assigned residential areas, and arranged their movement through the waterways. 202
Di Jun declined to force the displaced clans back. He excused ordinary clans that had fled to the stations during the devastation, ordered a review of obligations for clans wishing to leave permanently, and instructed the northern divisions to avoid the stations. In discussing these developments, Di Jun and Taiyi recognized that Abyss's waterways and established institutions had made it a mature power capable of functioning during its ruler's seclusion. 203
Layout and Geography
Abyss appears externally as a pitch-black, lifeless undersea forbidden zone around the Abyss Sea Eye. Its true interior is a concealed and increasingly developed world within Lu Chen’s shell. 4
The early inner realm was thirty thousand li across. Refinement of the Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Pearl later expanded it to a radius of one million li, with the Northern Darkness Sea and its branching spiritual veins forming a major part of the new terrain. 4 26
- Abyss City / Outer City — The main settlement area for resident clans, administrative bureaus, spirit fields, academies, workshops, storehouses, and refugee settlements. 4 26 54
- Northern Darkness Dao Palace — Administrative center associated with Lan Shuang and the Book of Cause and Effect. 4 5
- Northern Darkness Sea — Vast inland sea created when the Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Pearl merged with the Abyssal Womb Membrane; it serves as Abyss’s primary water anchor for spatial displacement. 26 78
- Mysterious Peak Mountain — Abyss’s first true mountain range, formed from the Earth-Vein Seal; especially suitable for Water Qilin, Black-Shelled Turtles, and terrestrial races. It serves as Abyss’s earth anchor. 37 78
- Frostflame Parasol Tree — Spiritual tree grown from Yuanfeng’s Frostflame Phoenix Feather beside the Northern Darkness Sea; the ancestral foundation and principal residence of the Frost Phoenix Lineage. 35
- Dragon-Suppressing Pass — Outer defensive pass with separate outer and inner gates; Ao Lie guards the outer gate, while Ancestor Xuan Jia and the Black-Shelled Turtle Tribe protect the inner gate. 19
- Three Lives Gate — The permanent entrance behind Dragon-Suppressing Pass, linking the pass to Abyss’s Outer City. 47
- Young Clans Court — Protected residential and educational district for young descendants of the Dragon, Phoenix, Qilin, and other refugee clans. 54 67
- Rescue Zone — Temporary medical and recovery area for wounded refugees admitted during calamities. 45 54
- Calamity-Viewing Platform — A remote observation platform built from Abyss’s water veins, causal connections, and the three-clan tokens; it is sealed when observation risks exposing Abyss. 43 53
- Three Lives Post Stations — Sixty-seven neutral relay stations distributed through the Northern Sea, providing evacuation routes, temporary shelter, communication, and spatial relay access to Abyss. 138 139 148
- Neutral Trade Region — A protected trade area outside the Three Lives Gate, monitored by the Bureau of Cause and Effect and the Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Formation. 138
- Connected Waterways — Transport infrastructure developed under Ao Lie's oversight, linking Abyss's wider operations and carrying newly admitted clans to their assigned settlements. 202 203
- Ninefold Netherworld Cold Spring — Cold spring manifested in Abyss during the ten-suns disaster; its water and profound yin dao patterns also supply protective cooling to the post-station network. 186
Governance and Principles
Abyss is nominally ruled by the unseen Mysterious Abyss Emperor, but its daily administration is handled by Lan Shuang and its bureaus. Its order is based on conduct, karma, contribution, and survival rather than race or bloodline. 4 26 31
The Old Shell can also undertake public administration independently, using existing officials, the Book of Cause and Effect, and merit-based precedents rather than requiring Lu Chen to control every decision. By the time of the ten-suns disaster, Abyss's institutions had developed enough experienced personnel to continue functioning during his seclusion. 130 203
- Bureau of Cause and Effect — Registers newcomers, examines karma, exposes spies and wrongdoing, manages the Book of Cause and Effect, and investigates criminal accusations involving Abyss residents. 4 6 102
- Realm Guard — Defensive force sworn to protect Abyss without conquering, waging unjust wars, or pursuing external enemies. 17
- Abyss Academy — Teaches cultivation, rules, disaster avoidance, formations, evacuation, healing, mental discipline, and the Abyss Stillness Art. 7 28 43
- Abyss Treasury — Manages resources distributed according to merit, population, cultivation, duties, and contribution rather than raw clan strength. 26
- Calamity-Resolution Hall — Established after old three-clan grudges erupted at the Academy; records grievances for causal judgment and prevents private vengeance from turning Abyss or its rescue zones into new battlefields. 38 45
- Dead-Soul Register — Records purified vengeful souls that choose to serve as Realm-Guarding Yin Soldiers. 49
- Young Clans Court — Shelters, educates, and supervises young survivors of the three clans and other refugee races. 54 67
- Abyss Registry — Registers long-term residents under a shared Abyss identity without requiring them to abandon their original bloodlines, clan affiliations, or voluntary Demon Court memberships. 102
- Three Lives Post Stations — Provide non-territorial Northern Sea evacuation, communication, and temporary-shelter services; they may not collect tribute, claim land, or interfere with local clan governance. 138
- Bureau of Calamity Avoidance — An established administrative bureau that forms part of Abyss's independently functioning institutional system. 8 203
- Bureau of Realm Patrol — Monitors Abyss's outskirts; its early investigations detected an abnormal karmic connection associated with a Dragon Clan infiltrator. 7 8
- Spirit Field Office — Handles affairs within Abyss's mature spirit-field administration. 203
- Water Vein Hall — Part of the institutional system capable of managing Abyss's affairs without constant intervention from Mysterious Abyss. 203
Within the Three Lives Gate, Abyss’s laws take precedence over external clan decrees, Demon Court summons, and inherited political titles. Abyss does not hide genuine criminals, but it also refuses to allow external powers to use its territory for internal political arrests or forced conscription. 102 135
External affiliation is voluntary, but its obligations are not automatically canceled by residence. Those who accept Demon Court resources or covenants must fulfill the resulting responsibilities themselves. The Bureau of Cause and Effect may record outstanding commitments, but Abyss does not use its authority to erase them. 101 202
Permanent admission requires a deeper examination than ordinary temporary shelter at a post station. A station's Cause and Effect Mirror reveals major karmic ties, whereas formal settlement uses a Cause and Effect Grand Formation connected to the Bureau of Cause and Effect at the Northern Darkness Dao Palace. 202
- Conduct outside Abyss — Residents may not use the Emperor's name to bully others or deliberately provoke trouble. Those who do so must resolve the resulting affairs themselves and are subject to the Bureau of Cause and Effect's accountability. 202
- Post-station sanctuary — Entry ends unauthorized hostilities but does not erase prior karma or prevent Abyss from punishing established blood debts against its people. 181
- Limits concerning souls — Abyss does not claim the right to detain, judge, or redirect souls on the basis of its connection to Reincarnation; seizing souls in its name is punishable. 170
Defenses and Special Functions
Abyssal Womb Membrane
The Womb Membrane conceals Abyss within Lu Chen’s shell and develops the inner realm into a minor world. It can stabilize the realm’s foundations and spatially transfer areas of Abyss to evade attacks. 1 14 26
- Conceals Abyss’s true location and heavenly secrets when reinforced with the Heaven-Deceiving Tortoise Shell. 27 28
- Expands alongside Abyss’s water veins, spiritual veins, and resident development. 7 26
- Forms the basis of the Abyss Dharma Body. 12
- Integrates the Abyss Escape Realm Chapter, allowing Abyss to temporarily alter its external spatial coordinates through internal anchors. 74 78
- Uses the Northern Darkness Sea as its water anchor, Mysterious Peak Mountain as its earth anchor, and the Three Lives Gate as its karmic anchor. 78
- Can currently conduct limited short-range collective displacement, though Saint-level heavenly-secrets techniques may still prevent complete escape. 74
- Strengthens through absorbed laws and institutional development; the aftermath of the Blackwater Dragon King's invasion and the successful operation of Abyss Academy both improved its stability. 7 17
- Its internal anchors reduce Abyss's dependence on the Northern Sea's external earth veins, providing the foundation for shifting the realm away from its original coordinates. 74 78
Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Formation
A formation drawing on the Abyss Sea Eye and Abyss’s defensive structures. It is the realm’s primary means of suppressing invaders without requiring Lu Chen to reveal his true body. 3 9
- Forced Han Jue, a Mid-Stage Golden Immortal, to kneel and established Abyss’s prohibition against violent intimidation. 6
- Crushed Ao Lie’s invasion force and compelled him to serve as a gate guard. 9
- Repelled the Blackwater Dragon King’s army when combined with the Abyss Dharma Body and the defenders’ collective power. 14 15
- Expanded to cover thirty thousand miles of the Outer Sea during Abyss’s defensive preparations. 28
- Works with the Water-and-Land Twin Anchors and the Black Tortoise Sea-Calming Pearl to dissipate spatial attacks and stabilize Abyss’s coordinates. 83
Abyss Dharma Body
A Black Tortoise projection condensed from Lu Chen’s divine sense, the Abyssal Womb Membrane, and the Sea-Calming Formation. It allows Abyss to confront powerful enemies while keeping Lu Chen’s true body hidden. 12
- Bound and destroyed the Blackwater Dragon King’s nine black dragon phantoms with Abyss heavy-water chains. 14
- Suppressed the Blackwater Dragon King through repeated stomps backed by the weight of the Abyss Sea Eye. 14 15
- Projected Lu Chen’s sleeping true-body image into Ao Cang’s dream, forcing the Great Luo Late Stage elder to withdraw. 29
- Received increased solidity after Abyss’s first expedition to the Northern Dark Water Palace. 24
- Can be projected through the Three Lives Post Station network without moving Lu Chen’s true body or the Mysterious Abyss Old Shell. 148
- Long-distance projection carries a substantial cost and is weaker than fighting within Abyss itself. A projection relayed across dozens of stations could withstand Ancestor Youquan's Myriad Souls Ghost Domain, but its continued defense consumed considerable power. 149
Three Lives Gate
The Three Lives Gate protects Abyss from dangerous entrants and enforces its foundational laws. 47
- Causality Illumination — Examines an entrant’s karma. 47
- Heart-Nature Examination — Reflects true thoughts, motives, and concealed corruption. 47
- Killing-Tribulation Severance — Detects killing tribulation and rejects those seeking supremacy or carrying dangerous intent. 47
- Purifies battlefield resentment and converts willing vengeful souls into Realm-Guarding Yin Soldiers. 49
- Prioritizes entry and treatment for the young, weak, wounded, and those genuinely seeking survival over beings of higher cultivation or status. 54 105
- Serves as Abyss’s karmic anchor for the Escape Realm Chapter and stabilizes the causal ties of the realm’s residents. 78
- Distinguishes willing guardians from souls requiring further restraint or examination. Souls clinging to unresolved obsessions can be temporarily sealed by the Northern Darkness Sea, while those attempting revenge killings are bound for the Calamity-Resolution Hall's Soul-Examining Formation. 49
- Became connected to the Netherworld, exposing the surrounding region to death qi before Lu Chen cleared it through the Abyss Sea Eye. The connection did not make Abyss a substitute for Reincarnation or grant it authority over souls' destinations. 155 156 170
Calamity-Viewing Platform
The Calamity-Viewing Platform permits Abyss to observe distant developments through its water veins, the Book of Cause and Effect, and the three-clan tokens. It was built to help Abyss avoid dangerous regions and prepare for approaching calamities without entering the battlefield. 43
- Its use is restricted because powerful beings such as Luohou can sense distant observation and potentially trace Abyss’s location. 53
- Lu Chen sealed the platform and classified its observation of Luohou in the Abyss Secret Archives after Luohou nearly detected its watchers. 53
- During the Dao-Devil conflict, Abyss instead relied on concealment, defensive lockdown, and indirect environmental signs rather than risking further observation. 61
Three Lives Post Stations
The Three Lives Post Stations are a Northern Sea network designed to connect endangered clans to Abyss without expanding Abyss’s territory. 138
- Provide communication, temporary shelter, evacuation routes, and access to the Three Lives Gate while remaining under the voluntary jurisdiction of local clans. 138 139
- Do not claim territory, impose taxation, collect tribute, or station permanent military forces. 138
- Function as spatial and karmic relay nodes for the Abyss Escape Realm Chapter. 148
- Allow Lu Chen to transmit a Black Tortoise Dharma Body across the Northern Sea through connected water veins. 148
- Extend Abyss’s rescue and surveillance capacity across much of the Northern Sea without exposing Lu Chen’s true body. 148
- Use Cause and Effect Mirrors to examine major karmic connections and Three Lives Mirrors for remote communication and manifestations of Mysterious Abyss. 181 202
- Can conduct formal settlement audits through a Cause and Effect Grand Formation linked to the Northern Darkness Dao Palace, as demonstrated at the Fifth Post Station. 202
- Received water and profound yin dao patterns from the Ninefold Netherworld Cold Spring to strengthen their defenses during the ten-suns disaster. 186
Death-Qi Assimilation and Life-and-Death Circulation
The Abyss Sea Eye can receive death energy drawn into Abyss and, through Lu Chen's Abyss Great Dao, separate and assimilate its pure Death Rule. This response first became apparent when death qi entering the Northern Darkness Sea vanished before it could spread. Lu Chen subsequently expanded the process to clear the vast Netherworld death-qi tide. 155 156
The later Life and Death Abyss Great Dao established a cycle rather than treating death as an isolated endpoint. Dead matter returned through Abyss could nourish the foundations of new life, while life and death revolved around Abyss as their receiving center. This principle is distinct from the passage of True Spirits through Netherworld Reincarnation. 164 165 167
- Lu Chen's Abyss Life and Death Wheel combines a Life Wheel that restores and nourishes with a Death Wheel that diminishes vitality, Primordial Spirit, magical power, and the vitality of the Great Dao. It is his own innate divine ability, rather than a separate administrative function of the sanctuary. 165 166
- Life energy from the inner realm can circulate through Lu Chen's shell and limbs and return to his Primordial Spirit, linking Abyss more closely to his recovery and cultivation. 183
Ninefold Netherworld Cold Spring
The Ninefold Netherworld Cold Spring was deployed to protect refugees during the ten-suns disaster without committing Abyss to the Witch-Demon conflict. Lu Chen sent streams of its water and profound yin dao patterns from Abyss to every post station. The resulting cooling reinforced the stations' defenses against solar true fire and preserved their function as open refuges. 186
