Background / History

Lan Shuang was the leader of the Sea Spirit Clan on Cold Moon Island. When the Dragon Clan demanded three thousand able-bodied youths for its war effort, she refused; the island was razed, and the clan elders fought to secure the survivors’ escape. With sixty-eight refugees, including children, she led the clan into the forbidden Guixu rather than submit to Ao Zheng of the Blackwater Dragon Palace. 2

Guixu admitted the refugees under strict conditions: remain quiet, do not fight, do not reveal the realm, and leave after one hundred years. Lan Shuang immediately recognized the hidden master’s power and knelt in gratitude, beginning her enduring reverence for Lu Chen as the “Emperor” despite his objections to the title. 2

Rather than merely surviving, Lan Shuang organized the Sea Spirit Clan into the foundation of a functioning settlement. By the time Lu Chen emerged, the refugees had built homes, roads, spirit fields, training grounds, storehouses, and the Northern Darkness Dao Palace, alongside the Bureau of Calamity Avoidance, Bureau of Realm Patrol, and Register of Ten Thousand Tribes. 3
