Background

The Heaven Dou Empire emerged from the feudal fragmentation that followed the collapse of humanity’s former unified empire. In the modern continental order, it stood alongside the Star Luo Empire and Spirit Hall as one of the three principal powers, though Spirit Hall retained the greatest strength through the Angel God inheritance 8.

Over time, the empire declined: none of its later emperors became Titled Douluo, and internal turmoil divided it into the main empire and four subordinate duchies or kingdoms 8. Its imperial house lacked the top-tier Titled Douluo foundation possessed by major sects, making its vast population, million-strong military, and noble alliances essential to its survival 136.

Government and Nobility

Emperor Xue Ye rules from Heaven Dou City. His authority is constrained by powerful regional rulers, sects, military leaders, and the independent strength of the empire’s noble houses.

The empire’s crown prince is publicly known as Xue Qinghe, although this identity is secretly held by Qian Renxue during much of the story 62. Grand Marshal Ge Long commands the empire’s military establishment and holds the rank of duke 14.

Subordinate Kingdoms

• Balak Kingdom — Later reclaimed by Heaven Dou and reorganized as Balak Province 109.
• Silves Kingdom — Its suspected cooperation with the Rakshasa Temple triggered Xue Ye’s military ultimatum; it was later reclaimed as Silves Province 105 109.

Time-Space Kingdom

Facing simultaneous threats from eastern invaders, Star Luo, and the Rakshasa Empire, Xue Ye elevated Prince Yun Duo from prince to Time-Space King. The Extreme North Province was redesignated the Time-Space Kingdom 107 108.

The new kingdom received broad military autonomy:

• It was assigned responsibility for eastern invaders and the Star Luo border.

History

Succession Crisis and the Yun Family Break

During an earlier succession crisis, Xue Ye deceived his paternal aunt—Heaven Dou’s eldest princess and grand marshal—into leaving Heaven Dou City so she could not support a rival claimant. She died after confronting the former Star Luo emperor and the Clear Sky Sect Second Elder’s daughter, taking the opposing reinforcements down with her 21 22.

After becoming a Titled Douluo, Yun Duo’s grandfather learned of the deception, assaulted Xue Ye, severed ties with the imperial family, and relocated his family and loyal soldiers to Skywater City 22. This created the politically unusual position of the Yun Family: imperial relatives with a hereditary non-imperial princely title and an autonomous military base.

War with Star Luo

When Star Luo initiated a war against Heaven Dou, Yun Duo’s father—a Soul Douluo and hereditary prince—was drafted to the frontline. He and Yun Duo’s mother were later killed during the conflict, with Yun Duo attributing the attack to a Clear Sky Sect Titled Douluo acting within Star Luo territory 1.

The empire’s recent war with Star Luo had only just ended when Mark Xier of the Skywater City Martial Soul Main Hall threatened Prince Yun. Observers feared that harming an imperial prince could reignite a full conflict between Heaven Dou and Spirit Hall 16.

Conflict with Spirit Hall

After Mark Xier’s attempted attack on Yun Duo, Xue Ye ordered the empire to publicly condemn the incident and demand an explanation from Spirit Hall. He treated it as an attack on imperial dignity despite his personal distrust of Yun Duo 62.

The empire later became entangled in Spirit Hall’s internal division, Bibi Dong’s rise, and the formation of the Rakshasa Temple. Xue Ye’s inability to stop Rakshasa Temple personnel from operating in his territory exposed the weakness of imperial intelligence and control 105.

Rebellion and the Rakshasa Empire

The rebellion of the four subordinate kingdoms and several Lower Four Sects enabled Bibi Dong to found the Rakshasa Empire. Heaven Dou’s intended campaign against Silves was interrupted when newly displaced islands and landmasses caused invasions across the continent, forcing Ge Long’s 500,000 troops to the eastern front 105 106.

Xue Ye responded by creating the Time-Space Kingdom, calling in Dugu Bo’s final favor, and bringing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and multiple Soul Master clans into a campaign against Rakshasa 108.

Decline

Over the following five years, continued pressure from the Rakshasa Empire and Sun Moon Empire cost Heaven Dou nearly half of its territory 182.

After the Star Luo Empire expelled Spirit Hall from its own territory with Clear Sky Sect support, Xue Ye attempted the same policy. Heaven Dou lacked Star Luo’s military and divine-level backing, and was forced to cede territory and pay massive reparations and cultivation resources to Spirit Hall 187 188.
