Miller drove the carriage, escorting Evan all the way to Gooding Street.

By the time they arrived, the fighting was almost over.

The elite bodyguards in three-piece suits certainly looked vicious.

But after all that fighting, only a dozen or so people had been wounded. Not a single person had died.

Clearly, their leader was no fool.

So many Vampires had slipped inside in secret and then vanished without a sound. The bodyguards knew the defenses against Beyonders inside were formidable.

Even if they fought their way in, it would not end well for them.

The Gus Gang's thugs had suffered injuries of varying severity, but Gust had proved himself a decent boss.

He had the wounded taken to several nearby clinics for emergency treatment.

Apart from the few who had tried to flee at the start and were permanently expelled from the gang, everyone else received a generous reward.

Hooves clattered as an elegant black four-wheeled carriage rolled through the muddy snow and stopped outside the old redbrick apartment building.

In the mingled glow of the dim gas streetlamps and the carriage's two brass lanterns, Miller opened the door and stepped down.

Edward and Herbert carried Evan out of the carriage on a stretcher.

Richard and the others had already heard the news. They quickly took over and brought Evan inside.

"Thanks for all the trouble," Richard said gratefully.

Miller smiled. "All I did was ride in a carriage and say a few things."

A hint of eagerness showed on his face. "I'd hoped to have a fight with Bolton City's Capitalists, but the plan went so smoothly."

"I've always wanted those Capitalists to get a taste of the Tax Fist I developed."

"Looks like I won't get the chance this time."

Richard laughed. "True. Sapp died remarkably quickly."
