January 25, 1911. Wednesday. Light snow.
To be honest, I'd never been in the habit of keeping a diary.
This was the first entry of my life.
After all, I'd always thought diaries were for children like my daughter and son.
But now I had to put some of my crazier experiences into words.
I was afraid that when I got old, I might mistake these memories for some far-fetched fantasy.
Ever since my promotion to deputy captain of the Special Operations Team, my standing at home had risen considerably.
My wife was so gentle and thoughtful every day now.
Of course, I wasn't bragging. I was merely recording the facts.
The subject of my first diary entry wasn't me. It was that mad young man, Arkham.
I swear by the great Healing Heavenly Father, I'd never imagined a young man could be this bizarre and unhinged.
Granted, the first time we met, I'd already noticed something wasn't quite right with his head.
But today, he still managed to open my eyes.
It happened around five in the afternoon. We received a report of a Magic Potion leak.
We quickly met up in the south of the city. Arkham was clearly in a hurry today, muttering something about having to be on time on Wednesday.
I asked if he had a date. He grinned and said he was going to calibrate an Anchor.
Young people were always coming up with fashionable new things. I had no idea what "calibrating an Anchor" meant.
But I could feel the blood racing through his body.
The kid was lovestruck!
On the way, he was in his usual state of mind, rambling from one topic to another.
He kept stressing how unfortunate it was that there was only one Wednesday in a week.
