At that moment, the siblings weren't worried about the crime scene.
Together, they had systematically destroyed every trace they had left there.
No ordinary evidence remained. A jumble of Beyonder traces covered and contaminated it all.
"Rain, do you think Aka—our boss really has a spell that can save Eddie after he's mutated this badly?"
Lucky asked curiously.
Rain rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. "There's so much about our boss that defies explanation. I can't promise anything."
"But since he decided to try, I'd say there's at least a thirty or forty percent chance!"
Lucky's eyes widened slightly. In the Beyonder world, a thirty or forty percent chance was far from low.
Just then, the cave door opened.
Both siblings turned. Evan was the first to walk out.
He had changed his jacket again, though this one was just as old and sweat-soaked as the last.
But the person behind Evan was no longer the twisted, swollen Beyonder who had undergone Beastification.
Eddie's face was pale, his eyes bloodshot, and his Spirituality weak.
Yet his steps were steady, his eyes were clear, and most importantly, an expression of utter happiness lit up his face.
Rain's jaw dropped. Lucky covered her face with both hands.
"By the Master!"
The siblings cried out together.
Evan smiled faintly. "It went much more smoothly than I expected."
"But the price was steep. Eddie can never become a Beyonder again."
The siblings hurried over and examined Eddie closely.
Forewarned about what to say, Eddie calmly expressed his gratitude to Evan in front of them.
Yet that gratitude carried a weight—and a fervor—far beyond ordinary thanks.
They talked as they left by another route, then made their way swiftly back to the city.
Evan wasn't worried about anyone learning what had happened today
