The age-worn office fell silent for a few seconds before a firm voice rang out.
"Traces of the supernatural are like rock strata and fossils. If they exist, they'll be found!"
The voice sounded old, but it was steady and powerful, like a hum rising from solid stone.
Evan turned toward the speaker: a white-haired, white-bearded old man he didn't recognize.
The old man wore a traditional black suit over a spotless white shirt.
His aged face was sharply defined, and oval brown glasses rested on his high-bridged nose.
At first glance, he carried himself much like Armitage.
If Armitage was a sharp sword hidden in an old scabbard,
then the man before him was a rock that had stood upon the earth for millions of years.
He gave the impression that he would remain steady and solid even if the heavens fell and the earth split open.
After the old man spoke, Carter rose to introduce him. "Arkham, I forgot to make the introductions."
"William Dale, professor of geology at the university and a Lord-Class Knight."
"He accomplished an unprecedented feat during an Antarctic expedition and is now one of the pillars of Miskatonic University!"
Seeing that even Carter stood to introduce him respectfully, Evan immediately wiped the smile from his face and bowed.
"It's an honor to meet you, Professor Dale."
Dale stood, stroked his white beard with a rough, callused hand, then stepped up to Evan and gave his arm and thigh a couple of sharp squeezes.
Feeling muscles as hard as stone beneath his hand, Professor Dale looked thoroughly pleased.
"Excellent. I appreciate an Investigator with a strong body!"
"It can keep you alive through mine disasters, earthquakes, landslides, eruptions of fire... all manner of calamities."
Evan sighed inwardly. Miskatonic University really doesn't keep anyone idle!
