Once Byron had a rough grasp of Evan's condition, he finally had the presence of mind to look around.
His bloodshot eyes swept over the blood and chunks of flesh scattered across the floor, then the students who were still shaken. He turned to Greenfire and asked curiously,
"How did dissecting one corpse leave this place such a mess?"
"This is nothing like the precision and composure expected of a researcher."
Greenfire gave an incredulous laugh. "Byron, do you honestly think we were dissecting an ordinary corpse?"
He pointed at the jars. "Look at the mutated, twisted organs and limbs in those jars. Does that look like anything a normal person should have inside them?"
The more Greenfire spoke, the more agitated he became. His earlier grin gave way to grief clenched between his teeth.
"Do you know how many of my finest students I lost during that autopsy?"
"Four of them! Four!"
Greenfire pointed at the empty autopsy table.
"This bastard's body was tougher and stronger than even a normal master's!"
"Fuck, his blood was as thick as a solid! We couldn't even draw it out. It just stayed congealed inside his limbs!"
"Do you know what happened when my first student tried to cut off his left foot?"
"We used a special steel saw, but it couldn't leave a scratch on his bones. It just threw off sparks."
"We wore the saw smooth, and his bones were still as pristine as ever!"
Byron's expression changed. "How is that possible? He's only an expert!"
"An expert's physique can't reach that level!"
"That's under normal circumstances!" Greenfire snapped.
"Do you know what happened after I took his left foot off myself and we were about to put it in a jar?"
