Background / History

During the era of Gol D. Roger, Whitebeard led his crew against the Roger Pirates in a three-day conflict. His personal duel with Yake continued for four days, devastating an uninhabited island and ending only when Roger intervened. Despite the battle, Whitebeard, Roger, and Yake later drank together as friends. 132

Whitebeard maintained a close bond with Kozuki Oden, whom he called upon for information about Wano’s Road Poneglyph. Oden and Whitebeard regarded each other as brothers rather than captain and subordinate. 133

After Yake became infamous for killing a Celestial Dragon, Whitebeard admired his courage and ordered Marco to assist him if the Marines pursued him. 4 Yake later challenged Whitebeard aboard the Moby Dick to test himself against the world’s strongest man.
