Background / History
Heize was born in a Great Feng border village to a blacksmith father. During a Wolf Tribe raid when he was one, his mother chose death rather than capture. Learning the reason for her death shaped his lifelong hatred of the Wolf Tribe and his determination to protect Great Feng. At four, he displayed a natural connection to the spear and was adopted by a retired military officer. 1 56
He trained obsessively from childhood, often practicing through exhaustion and refusing distractions. At eleven, his adoptive father sent him to Kyoto with a recommendation letter for Gun King Liu Xiu. Heize quickly surpassed conventional expectations: he became Liu Xiu's disciple, learned advanced spear arts with extraordinary speed, and defeated his master at twelve. 1 56 57
As a teenager, Heize travelled widely, killed the Twelve Great Bandits of Tianmen Mountain, and waged guerrilla attacks across the Wolf Tribe's borderlands. When his father died, he observed mourning while continuing his training. He also drafted the Thirty-Nine Strategies to Break the Wolves, later credited to Liu Xiu; Great Feng rejected the plan at the time, though later dynasties used its trade-based approach against northern powers. 1 57 58
At twenty-one, Heize infiltrated the Wolf Tribe's Golden Tent and learned of its scheme to seize the Nine Cauldrons. When the Wolf Guards advanced through his hometown during their invasion of Great Feng, he returned alone with the Divine Might Spear. Activating Slaughter Mastery, he fought the elite force from noon through the following day, sealed the valley with Mountain Puller, and killed 12,776 enemies before dying of exhaustion at age twenty-three. 1 59 60 61
More than a thousand years later, excavations in the Great Wilderness Mountain Range uncovered the Shrine of Life and Death, Wolf Tribe inscriptions, and a projection of Heize's past. The discoveries confirmed that he existed and that he had destroyed the Wolf Guards, turning him into a major historical and cultural figure. 10 50 55 61
Appearance
Heize is depicted as a tall, slender, handsome young man with delicate features rather than the build of a conventional hulking warrior. During his later campaigns, he wears black robes and carries a long spear. 11 57 59
- Black-robed and spear-bearing in historical murals and the recovered projection. 11 57
- Described as tall and handsome, with a scholarly general's bearing. 11 57
- Appeared small and physically slight as a child, despite training with an iron spear longer than his body. 55
Personality
Heize is defined by relentless discipline. As a child, he ignores doubts, fatigue, weather, and social invitations in order to train. His focus on the spear is so complete that he repeatedly chooses practice and duty over companionship. 55 57
His hatred of the Wolf Tribe is rooted in the destruction of his home and the death of his mother. This hatred becomes inseparable from his patriotism: he sees himself as a border soldier with no retreat while Great Feng remains under threat. 1 58 60
Despite his terrifying conduct in battle, Heize is not portrayed as carefree or fulfilled. Slaughter Mastery leaves him increasingly consumed by killing, while his final words reveal loneliness and regret over a life spent almost entirely in conflict. 60 61

Extraordinary Resilience
Wolf Tribe records describe Heize as impossible to kill with ordinary weapons and claim that his corpse remained intact for a year after his death. These accounts conflict with the projection, which shows him bloodied and wounded during his final battle. 51 61
- His remains repel people and disable machinery that approaches the golden light surrounding the burial site. 62 162
- His corpse later reanimates when Fang Youcai attempts to consume it. 163
- After killing Fang Youcai, the manifested body dissipates rather than remaining behind. 163
