Background / History

Yu Yaonu originated in the Lost Zone. As a child, she was carried up the Stairway to Heaven by a thin young boy through lethal weather and hazards; she later recognizes him as the being connected to her first contracted pet 469 489.

Nine years before entering the Zhu Lu Trial Ground, she arrived in the Southern Phoenix Realm and was adopted by Aunt Yu. Although she grew up safely in Raven City, Yu Yaonu suffered recurring nightmares and retained a powerful attachment to the pet egg in suspended animation within her body 458 463.

Her first contracted pet could not be summoned or fight, leaving her spiritual power insufficient to contract another pet through ordinary means. Despite repeated advice from Aunt Yu, Liu Fang, examiners, and powerful Beast Tamers to replace it, Yu Yaonu consistently refused because she believed the boy was enduring injuries and pain on her behalf 458 459 463 464.

Appearance

Yu Yaonu is a graceful young woman with delicate, fair features compared to a porcelain doll. As she matures, her most remarked-upon feature is her exceptionally slender waist, from which the name “Yaonu” (“Waist Slave”) is derived 458 471 472.

Her attachment to her first pet is the defining force behind her decisions. She refuses to abandon it even when doing so limits her Beast Tamer path, costs her opportunities, and places her at odds with those who want her to become the Vermilion Bird Saintess 458 464 468.

Though outwardly calm—even when accused by Qing Hua or implicated in Hua Tianbi's death—Yu Yaonu is deeply affected by the suffering beyond the Five Saint Domains. Learning of the sacrifices made to create the Five Saint Favored gradually makes her accept the burden of protecting the Beast Taming Great World 467 469 490.

Yu Yaonu enters the Zhu Lu Trial Ground as an Awakening Class Beast Tamer with no active pet protection. When Red Eyes manifests, a white light from within or around her disperses it and transports her to a hidden trial ground, where she encounters the Azure-Eyed Ancient God and becomes Liuli, its Divine Envoy 458 459 460.

Search for Her Pet's Awakening

After gaining the Vermilion Deer, Yu Yaonu uses contribution points, Vermilion Bird Nectar, and Tears of Whale Swallowing to seek vitality for her dormant first pet. She enters Star Academy's Pet Healing department specifically to acquire the knowledge needed to save it 461 463 464 465.

Cang Tong and the Vermilion Bird Favored

Yu Yaonu supervises Cang Tong's divine servants while concealing her identity. Her status as a Vermilion Bird Favored draws Qing Hua's attention and exposes her to political conflict, while Yaoyue's intervention and testimony reveal the scale of the wider war against Red Eyes 462 467 469.

Saintesshood and the Deity Game

After graduating from Star Academy as a King Class Beast Tamer, Yu Yaonu pursues the title of Vermilion Bird Saintess to gain the authority and strength needed to uncover the world's truths. She survives decades of front-line warfare, returns to the Supreme Heavenly Realm as a sequenced Saintess, and is confined when Cang Tong becomes suspected of serving Red Eyes 472 481 487.

Yu Yaonu passes the Heart Questioning trial, confronts the World-Ending Black Dragon, and pierces its reverse scale to win the Deity Game. Red Eyes then destroys the Beast Taming Great World regardless, revealing that Lin Chao had used the game to awaken Yu Yaonu's spirit hidden in the world's origin 489 490.
