Background / History

Early Reincarnations

Lin Chao’s reincarnation experiences caused him to question whether he was changing history or creating it. During one early life as Lin Ping, he became the young master of the Dan Jian Sect and dedicated himself to studying Anomalous Arts rather than indulging in his social status. 27 37

In the Great Jing era, Lin Ping worked in the Sun Palace refining flawed Immortality Elixirs. He recognized a possible Immortality Elixir bearer in Beiling City but withheld that information from the Azure Lord. 28 He later gathered several factions through strength and charisma, personally killed the child-eating King Tai Liang, and announced his intention to kill the Azure Lord. 33 37

Lin Ping learned the Three Extremes Spirit Fist from Mo Fengxue before travelling to Kyoto. 41 He used tens of thousands of swords to sever the Azure Lord’s Heaven’s Mandate, killed the Azure Lord, and eventually eliminated the Bronze King’s remaining contingencies. 45 After Great Cang fell and the Yellow Dynasty arose, he vanished from public view; fifty years later, he broke through the void from Mount Taiqing. 45

Great Yan and the Wu Nation

In another reincarnation, Lin Chao became Qi Bai, son of Lord Wu’an in the martial Great Yan Dynasty. He selected the talents Disguise Technique, Ancient Martial Artist, Linguistic Charm, and Puppet Master before entering this life. 76 After Lord Wu’an was assassinated by the Three-Colored Pavilion, Qi Bai’s lineage became central to the struggle for Wu’an’s restoration. 76 89

Under the identities Qi Mu and Qi Lin, he refused immediate command of the Northern Rejection Army, preferring to continue strengthening himself. 88 He protected Fenglan, killed the Four Ghosts of Tainan with paper, destroyed the Three-Colored Pavilion, and defeated the Wind and Rain Tower’s elite assassins. 91 98

He used Fenglan City’s ten thousand lanterns to form a Fire Dragon that annihilated roughly ten thousand Wei soldiers, forcing the Wei Kingdom’s surrender. 100 Great Yan subsequently fell, and Lin Chao became Emperor Wu; his reign brought prosperity to the Wu Nation. 105 108

Nine Provinces, Modern World, and Xu Ling’s Life

As Xiang Long, Lin Chao pursued every available cultivation path rather than specializing in one. 127 129 He later created forty-eight clones with Puppet Clone Pills and sent them into different sects to accelerate his growth. 136

As Feng Yan, he cultivated the Ancient Method despite warnings, gained the Wood God Path token from Wang Qiankun, and rapidly progressed through the Transcendent ranks. 189 He also investigated evidence linking his past enemies—King Tai Liang and the Wolf Tribe—to the mysterious Tai Liang Element. 170

As Xu Ling, Lin Chao initially lived as a herb gatherer and concealed his experience to avoid drawing attention. 257 258 He learned the Thunder Cloud Leg Technique, rose through Blood Refining and Martial Master, secretly wiped out the Green Feather Gang, and began studying the parasitic species’ connection to Vitality. 257 260 263 After attaining Innate, he entered Weiyang Palace as Zhuangshan Changsheng Sanren to study its collected martial arts. 266

Centuries later, he awoke from slumber with greatly advanced Vitality cultivation. He agreed to protect Huang Hun, the last direct descendant of the Shang royal family, while continuing to seek the martial art that represented his own Vitality. 271

Later Worlds

Lin Chao ascended to the Ninth Tier and began cultivating the Lesser Reincarnation Method after discovering that the Gate of the Ten Fiends prevented him from fully destroying his current world. 325 He later became an Arcanist in the Arcane Empire and acquired the Arcane Eye blueprint under Kongping’s condition that it be used for defense rather than against kin. 368

In Ironstone City, he built a base for Players, planned his ascension to godhood, and placed Shivana in charge during his absence. 343 399 He later obtained the Ancient Mountain God’s inheritance, including puppet-creation knowledge, and repaired his Divine Tier Puppet subordinates Twenty-Two and Twenty-Three. 419 434

In a later life as Xia Yang, he began as a physically weak Qingxu Sect indentured servant. He reached Qi Refining, became a formal disciple, insisted on learning Martial Cultivation, and received the Taiyi Heavenly Venerate’s Slap Mother Technique. 495 496

Appearance

Lin Chao has no fixed appearance because each reincarnation and disguise gives him a different identity. His generated Great Yan body possessed superior physique and appearance, while his Xia Yang body was notably weak from the start. 76 495

  • Appeared as a sixteen-year-old, well-regarded young master while living as Lin Ping in Beiling City. 27
  • Wore white when confronting the Wind and Rain Tower as Qi Lin. 97
  • Used black robes during his Feng Yan identity. 181
  • Maintained a mostly unchanged appearance through seven years as Xu Ling. 264
  • Was nearly three meters tall while displaying his Martial Dao power against Ji Zhou. 520

Personality

Lin Chao is consistently calm, analytical, and patient. He tends to prioritize long-term cultivation over immediate authority, declining command of the Northern Rejection Army and later refusing to rule Linhai City despite being offered loyalty. 88 282

He is highly cautious when weak or operating under an alias. As Xu Ling, he deliberately avoided the Lei Family Martial Arts School’s inner court and remained prepared to flee from stronger enemies rather than expose himself prematurely. 258 He uses disguises, misdirection, and carefully chosen identities to move through dangerous environments unnoticed. 170 266

Despite his detachment from worldly power, he protects people he considers his responsibility. He raised Xiao Jing, saved Yu Su from the Green Feather Gang, protected Huang Hun, and intervened to repay Xue Yang’s prior kindness. 261 263 271 417
