Background

Hawkins’s current self is not the original pirate captain. An ancient consciousness escaped the heat death of its universe by sacrificing much of its memory to open a dimensional passage. It awakened in the body of Hawkins, the twenty-five-year-old captain of the Blackblade Pirates, after the original Hawkins’s consciousness was erased. Unable to recall its original name, the traveler retained “Hawkins” as a temporary identity 1.

The original Hawkins was an infamous pirate who inherited piracy from his father, Huo Blackblade. His memories reveal that he chose the profession partly because legitimate work paid poorly compared with raiding, though he was also educated, interested in navigation, books, and treasure hunting 1 4.

Captured aboard the Vidalya Glory after raids on Vitalia Island’s coast, Hawkins exploited the guards’ poverty and distrust of the noble system. He used concealed gold, psychological pressure, and implanted Thought Viruses to escape during a storm, freeing imprisoned members of his crew along the way 1 2.

After escaping, Hawkins shifted his goal away from wealth, authority, or conquest. He instead sought unknown places, unusual powers, and companions capable of sharing new adventures 4.

Appearance

Hawkins is tall, handsome, cleanly dressed, and notably well groomed for a pirate; Mark initially mistakes him for someone closer to a nobleman than a conventional pirate 10.

  • Originally possessed a physically strong but, by his standards, inadequate human body 7.
  • Developed dramatically enlarged muscles through biological reconstruction 7 8.
  • His eyes became gold with star-shaped pupils during his early modifications 7.
  • Black superconductive patterns cover his back and function as part of his electromagnetic system 8.
  • Can regenerate lost limbs and repair severe injuries, including damage to his arms 7 47.

Personality

Hawkins is analytical, patient, and intensely curious. He approaches supernatural phenomena as problems to be observed, tested, and understood, whether he is studying Cursed Relics, altered organisms, the Dream Realm, or the nature of Curse Power. When direct force is ineffective, he searches for rules, weaknesses, and environmental loopholes instead 4 26 27 46.

His compassion is genuine but pragmatic. He refuses to raid innocent villagers, limits the contagion of the Masha Virus to avoid mass extinction, rescues House Town’s orphans, and offers protection to vulnerable people who join his crew. However, he is willing to dominate minds, conduct dangerous experiments, and kill enemies he considers irredeemable or dangerous 13 15 23 24 32 36.

His prolonged life has left him with deep regrets concerning family, home, war, betrayal, and lost relationships. These regrets shape his wish in the Dream Realm and his fascination with resurrection, while also making him value individual lives more strongly than his pirate reputation suggests 17 20 28 50.

Abilities & Skills

Ancient Consciousness and Thought Viruses

Hawkins possesses an exceptionally vast consciousness and views minds as information that can be altered, copied, or redirected.

  • Implanted dormant Thought Viruses through physical contact with Tom and James, later activating them to take control of both guards 2.
  • Uses Mind Viruses to redirect a victim’s thoughts until they believe manipulated choices are their own 9.
  • Created a Physical Consciousness Virus that subtly influences Julian’s decisions through an immunological weakness 9.
  • Can read memories by using nanometer-scale needles concealed in his hair to connect directly to nerves 8.
  • His consciousness was powerful enough to overwhelm and destroy an elderly Curse Caster who merely perceived it in the Dream Realm 17.
  • His virus could not infect Julian directly because an unidentified force inside Julian’s body destroyed it 8.

Biological Modification

Hawkins treats his own body as a customizable biological system, extracting material from consumed food to engineer new organs and tissues.

  • Rapidly regenerates wounds and severed limbs 4 7.
  • Developed optimized digestion and an extreme metabolism; he can consume enormous quantities of food but must replenish energy constantly 8 48.
  • Modified his body for exceptional speed, reaching roughly 105 meters per second after accelerating from rest in 0.05 seconds 14.
  • Planned or developed adaptations including underwater breathing, accelerated healing, enhanced muscles, specialized nerves, and electricity generation 7 8.
  • Can stabilize and control another person’s body through invasive hair-based neural connections, as when he saved Mark after the meteor-hammer attack 14.
  • Uses modified bacteria and germs for surveillance, biological alteration, and lethal attacks 8 13 14.

Electromagnetism

Superconductive structures in Hawkins’s nerves and back allow him to generate electricity and manipulate electromagnetic fields.

  • Fires sustained barrages of ball lightning for approximately half an hour before exhausting stored charge 8.
  • Uses lightning offensively, including incapacitating Julian and killing Eugene 8 35.
  • Generates microwave fields capable of incinerating Robucci’s cursed insect swarms 47.
  • Can manipulate soil and lift targets through electromagnetic force 46.
  • His accelerated nervous system and overclocked brain greatly improve reaction speed and combat perception 4 8.

Hair and Enhanced Senses

Hawkins’s modified hair and eyes function as biological tools rather than ordinary human features.

  • Hair absorbs microorganisms and serves as a solar collector for energy storage 8.
  • Hair can alter organisms, create microscopic neural needles, and potentially extract memories 8.
  • Enhanced eyes can observe microscopic organisms and track extremely rapid movement 8 49.
  • Uses scattered bacteria to gather intelligence without confronting targets directly 13.

Curse Power and Curseguard

After becoming a Curse Caster, Hawkins gained immense Curse Power, which he later theorized as a form of positive energy that affects probability.

  • His initial Curse Power measured 330,000 points, vastly exceeding Mark’s initial sixty points and current hundred-point range 18.
  • Curseguard automatically defends against most physical attacks as long as sufficient Curse Power remains 20.
  • His Curse Spirit is exceptionally durable, inheriting defensive properties associated with the Black Knife; it destroyed Qiao Lak’s flame giant and killed Qiao Lak 21.
  • Determined that Curse Power raises the probability of outcomes associated with existing traits rather than creating arbitrary abilities from nothing 46.
  • Identified George’s Negative Curse Power as an opposing force capable of neutralizing positive Curse Power 41.

Eternal Sea Chart and Eternal Space

The Eternal Sea Chart is Hawkins’s central relic and the foundation of his expanding crew infrastructure.

  • Absorbs defeated beings during Dream Realm trials and evolves through devouring 18 27.
  • Contains Eternal Space, a recreated and alterable internal world that includes a replica of House Town and the Black Knife 27 28.
  • Exercises near-total control over force, movement, sound, and space inside Eternal Space 36.
  • Can create Spatial Passages, though the largest documented opening is only about ten meters in diameter 41.
  • Allows objects and people to be stored, transported, or summoned at the cost of Curse Power 32.
  • Can permanently reshape objects and environments when Curse Power is used on them 28.
  • Can resurrect dead people if Hawkins knows their appearance and exact time of death; resurrection consumes enormous Curse Power 28 29.
  • Supports contracts, a Chat Group, missions, Exchange Points, a Forum, and a Curse Power Bank for his crew 33.

Combat Experience and Tactical Reasoning

Hawkins is not presented as a natural combat genius; his skill comes from prolonged survival and repeated warfare.

  • Did not truly learn to fight until World War III, around the age of five hundred, then accumulated experience through countless later wars 17.
  • Defeated Bride by identifying Jordas as the anchor of her soul-based ability and killing Jordas with an electromagnetic blast 4.
  • Passed Ai Miye’s inheritance trials by exploiting arena rules and the Blue Giant’s inability to reflect indirect environmental damage 26 27.
  • Captured an eight-meter Dream Realm monster by luring it into Eternal Space rather than attempting to overpower it 36.
  • Uses stealth, calculation, and environmental analysis against hidden or invisible attackers 32.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Black Knife — Hawkins’s ship and namesake vessel. It possesses an extraordinarily durable black blade-like structure and was later rebuilt into a partly living ship with vines, tentacles, self-opening doors, and underwater defenses 7 34 35.
  • Eternal Sea Chart — Evolved Cursed Relic connected to Eternal Space, resurrection, devouring, appraisal, contracts, and spatial passages 27 28 33.
  • Animal Friend Badge — A relic taken from Robucci that causes animals and other “lowly lifeforms” to see its bearer as their dearest friend 48.
  • Qi-Suppressing Stone — A multicolored stone recovered from the meteor-hammer user; Hawkins ground and consumed it to enter the Dream Realm 15 17.
  • Inherited nautical chart — Originally directed the Blackblade Pirates toward treasure on Little Will Island rather than Vitalia Island; it later became part of Hawkins’s evolving relic system 4 17.
  • Electromagnetic ring cannon — A ring-mounted weapon used to destroy Jordas’s head; Hawkins lost the arm wearing it during that encounter 4.

Relationships

  • Original Hawkins — Former owner of Hawkins’s body and identity. The original consciousness was erased upon the traveler’s arrival; Hawkins inherited his memories, pirate crew, enemies, and unfinished treasure hunt 1 4.
  • Mark / Storm Mark — Hired as a ninety-day crewman, then became Hawkins’s combatant and formally accepted him as captain after Hawkins entered the Dream Realm. Their relationship combines loyalty, fear, teasing, and practical cooperation 10 11 17 35.
  • Ai Miye — House Town orphan, later Hawkins’s apprentice. Hawkins rescued her from her ancestor’s possession and gave her safety within Eternal Space; Ai Miye trusts him despite initially fearing his hidden motives 23 24 27 28.
  • Asmodeus — Resurrected by Hawkins after dying while protecting children. Hawkins uses his renewable life as a means of exploring Dream Realm hazards, though he refuses to risk him unnecessarily 29 31.
  • Jennie — Former target of Qiao Lak’s political ambitions. Hawkins offers her protection aboard the Black Knife, though her dream-related ability makes her valuable to many factions 20 21.
  • Qiao Si — Jennie’s loyal protector. Hawkins accepted her conditions for joining the crew, later mourned her death in the ambush, and arranged for her revival 21 31 33.
  • Julian — Captured noble agent capable of bat transformation. Hawkins used him for information and covertly influenced him with a Physical Consciousness Virus; Julian eventually escaped after the Black Knife was sunk 8 9 34.
  • Jabus — Lord of Vitalia Island and a major enemy whose agents pursued Hawkins after Jordas’s death. Hawkins suspects Jabus’s actions are deliberate and seeks both his relics and an end to his indiscriminate slaughter 7 41.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Escape from the Vidalya Glory

Hawkins begins as a captured pirate captain aboard the Vidalya Glory. He turns the guards’ dissatisfaction with the noble order against them, infects them when they betray their agreement, and escapes in a storm with surviving members of the Blackblade Pirates 1 2.

Vitalia Pursuit and Self-Reconstruction

After killing Jordas and escaping aboard the Black Knife, Hawkins discovers the Magic Sea Chart and begins remaking his body. Jabus sends Joyce and Julian after him, but Hawkins captures Julian, gains intelligence on Cursed Relics, and recruits Mark after rescuing him from the sea 4 7 8 10.

Conflict with Jabus’s Agents

Mark kills Joyce, while Hawkins defeats a relic-equipped assassination team through modified airborne germs rather than direct force. Their recovered relics include the meteor hammer and Qi-Suppressing Stone, the latter opening Hawkins’s path to the Dream Realm 11 14 15.

Becoming a Curse Caster

Hawkins enters the Dream Realm using the Qi-Suppressing Stone, survives its initial trial, and returns as a first-rank Curse Caster with overwhelming Curse Power. He later develops Curseguard, a Curse Spirit, and a deeper understanding of Curse Power’s probabilistic nature 17 18 20 21 46.

House Town and the Eternal Sea Chart

After discovering House Town massacred, Hawkins takes in Ai Miye and thirteen orphaned children. He helps Ai Miye through her Bloodline Inheritance trials, exposes her ancestor’s possession, destroys the Devil’s Horn, and evolves the Eternal Sea Chart 23 24 26 27.

Building a Crew in Eternal Space

Hawkins begins using Eternal Space as a refuge and operational base. He revives Asmodeus, later restores Qiao Si and other fallen companions, creates contracts and a Chat Group, and organizes the group into sailors, trainees, combatants, and support staff 29 33 35.

Black Market Island

At Black Market Island, Hawkins identifies Dalton as the financier behind the bounty hunters, defeats Robucci and his Cursed Relic insect army, and forces Dalton to evacuate the island. His underlying objective is to move the resource-rich island into Eternal Space rather than simply rule it through terror 43 44 47 48.
