Background

Red Sea and Storm Lineage

Mark originates from the Red Sea, a region of numerous closely clustered islands beyond the Seven Seas. He belongs to the Storm Lineage, whose members are periodically swept away by storms; survivors may be thrown into distant seas, while others die in dangerous locations. Mark was carried into the Seven Seas by such a storm and spent roughly a month adrift before his rescue. 11 12

He was first found as a ragged castaway floating at sea. Rather than fearing the pirate vessel that rescued him, he eagerly asked to join its crew as a fighter. Hawkins hired him for ninety days at one silver coin per day. 10

Service under Hawkins

From the outset, Mark and Hawkins recognized that the other was abnormal. Hawkins noted Mark’s extreme weight, composure around Julian’s talking-bat form, and awareness that the marine sailor was a puppet. Mark, meanwhile, judged Hawkins’s physical strength to be greater than his own. 10

Mark quickly proved his worth when he annihilated Joyce’s paper constructs and killed Joyce with an invisible attack. He attributed the victory less to his own strength than to the nobles’ superficial command of Cursed Relics. 11

Although Mark initially considered killing Hawkins while Hawkins underwent the Curse Caster trial, he ultimately could not do so. He accepted Hawkins as his captain and later became one of the Blackblade Pirates’ most reliable combatants. 17 35

The Mist Sea and Mark’s Identity

During the Mist Sea expedition, Mark was separated from Hawkins and trapped in a hostile space with Kulu, An Lian, and Mr. Backup. He survived distorted story-based transformations, monster nests, and the hidden battle form Hawkins had placed within his clone. 149 151 152

Hawkins later revealed that the original Mark had been destroyed when he first entered the Seven Seas. The current Mark is one of many recurring reconstructions produced through the Seven Seas’ cycles, yet Hawkins maintains that he remains genuinely Mark because he shares the same bloodline, history, and identity. 158 160

The revelation also confirmed that nearly ten thousand years had passed in the Red Sea and that Mark’s parents, sister Ma Lian, and other relatives had died. Mark chose not to resurrect them after freeing them from the Hunting King’s enslavement, fearing both their reaction to his identity and the possibility of the original Mark returning instead. 158 159

Appearance

Mark first appears as a ragged, seawater-soaked castaway, but his appearance conceals exceptional physical density and strength: Hawkins determines that he weighs roughly five times as much as an ordinary person. 10

  • Initially manifests a silver werewolf-like Curse Spirit, Silver Wolf.
  • In Resonant Fusion, becomes a lightning-wreathed Werewolf with claws and electrified hair. 70
  • After his Curse Spirit’s fusion, his spirit takes the form of the death-god-like Anubis. 159
  • Favors the ornate Sky-Piercer Halberd over more practical weapons because he values style and distinctiveness. 131

Personality

Mark is bold, sociable, and drawn to adventure. Being swept from his home does not embitter him; instead, he views meeting Hawkins as proof that exile may lead to more interesting experiences. 10

He is highly confident and theatrical in battle, frequently livestreaming his fights and boasting about his strength. This confidence has repeatedly been undermined by humiliating defeats, but those failures gradually make him more cautious and improve his use of Curse Power. 53 68 131

Mark is romantically impulsive. He rapidly imagined marriage and children with Jennie after a single encouraging message, and later did the same with Unia before realizing she had been manipulating him. 54 138 139 His vanity also influences his weapon preference; he openly favors the flashy halberd despite its practical weaknesses. 131

Despite his recklessness, Mark has become more mature over time. He protects Arthur during danger, hesitates to harm An Lian despite her appearance, and eventually accepts responsibility for his son Martin. He teaches Martin that desires must be both sensible and achievable rather than blindly pursued. 53 151 273

Abilities & Skills

Curse Power and Curseguard

Mark is a Curse Caster whose Curse Power provides automatic protection.

  • Curseguard prevents attacks from beings without Curse Power from harming him. 12
  • His Curse Power can reinforce his body and endure attacks that would otherwise be lethal, including Conrad’s Black Ice blade. 131
  • His early Curse Power measured approximately 100 points. 18
  • He has learned that Curse Power is affected by subconscious belief and probability; his belief that he could not breathe underwater initially restricted him against Liquid Man. 54

Silver Wolf and Resonant Fusion

Silver Wolf was Mark’s original Wolf Curse Spirit, inherited through the Storm Lineage.

  • Produces invisible cutting attacks capable of severing Liquid Man’s extensions. 53
  • Can become visible and physically threaten targets with its claws. 150
  • Allows Resonant Fusion, a Curse Spirit transformation unavailable to Curse Casters without such spirits. 158
  • Its connection to the Hunting King makes Mark and his bloodline potential coordinates for assimilation into the Hunting King’s wolves. 158

Thunder Wolf

Mark’s rage-driven Resonant Fusion combines his body with Silver Wolf and electrical power.

  • Enhances his strength, speed, claws, and pursuit ability. 54 70
  • Covers his body and hair in dangerous silver lightning. 70
  • Fires lightning and Ball Lightning through the Sky-Piercer Halberd. 70
  • Appears to grant limited magnetic manipulation, allowing changes in direction while airborne. 70
  • Can become mentally unstable or feral when the transformation is fueled by obsessive emotion. 54

Anubis

Anubis is Mark’s weapon spirit and replacement Curse Spirit, created when the Arkham patriarch spirit merged with Silver Wolf and Greedy Wolf’s Claw. 159

  • Can instantly switch positions with Mark through their linked Curse Power. 159
  • Summons a poisonous Golden Spear; only Anubis can cure its poison. 159
  • Uses Soul-Devouring Kiss to consume enemies. 159
  • Gains new abilities by devouring targets; consuming a gray wolf grants Hunter’s Scent. 159
  • Can appear beside Mark whenever he enters combat, even while remaining in Eternal Space. 160
  • Outclasses Mark in direct sparring; during one training session, Anubis judges that Mark would have died fifty-six times. 160

Electromagnetic Field

A hidden battle form installed by Hawkins can be activated when Mr. Backup takes control of Mark’s body.

  • Covers Mark in golden scales and changes his pupils into vertical slits. 151
  • Activates an Electromagnetic Field and enables extreme speed beyond normal visual processing. 151
  • Allows precise attacks such as a spiraling beam that pierces a monster’s head before it can react. 151
  • Mark does not normally control this form himself; Mr. Backup activates and operates it. 151 152

Player Abilities

After becoming a player, Mark gains access to game-like combat protections and revival.

  • Blood Shield absorbs damage before attacks can harm his body. 274
  • Resurrection Coins allow him to revive after death, though each revival remains costly. 274
  • His Sky-Piercer Halberd grants him flight capability in the player system. 294

Equipment

  • Sky-Piercer Halberd — Mark’s signature weapon. It can fly, discharge concealed electricity, and is used for lightning-based attacks; its ornate design is less practical than an ordinary spear in close combat. 102 131 294
  • Greedy Wolf’s Claw — Former Cursed Relic fused into Anubis alongside Silver Wolf. 159
  • Rock Necklace — Used to create the Never-Falling Fortress along Tide Village’s coastline during the sea-monster invasion. 270
  • Gas mask — Exchanged to endure the stench of Freak Corpse Island and shared with companions. 207
  • Resurrection Coins — Player revival resource used after fatal defeats. 274

Relationships

  • Hawkins — Captain, mentor, and benefactor. Mark initially considered killing Hawkins but ultimately accepted his authority; Hawkins trains him, protects him, and reassures him that Eternal Space is his family. 17 55 158
  • Anubis — Mark’s weapon spirit and combat partner. Anubis trains Mark, appears whenever he enters combat, and grows stronger by consuming enemies. 159 160
  • Arthur — Younger crewmate whom Mark protects during the Liquid Man attack. Arthur later follows and livestreams Mark’s encounter with Unia, causing Mark severe embarrassment. 53 140
  • Jennie — Mark interprets her encouragement during his battle with Liquid Man as proof that she loves him, triggering his desperate transformation. 54
  • Martin — Mark’s biological son. Mark invites the orphaned Martin to come home, later forgets about him for years, and becomes anxious when he realizes Martin may resent the abandonment. 272 273 299
  • Momo — A girl who regards Mark as a heroic father figure. Mark takes pride in her admiration and focuses on protecting her during the Sea of Heroes invasion. 270
  • Unia — A brief romantic fixation that ends when Mark discovers she serves Aldrich and has been using a honey trap against him. 138 139
