Background

Xiao Wu had only recently assumed human form when she encountered Lu Shiyuan and Xiao Feiyu near the Star Dou Forest. Xiao Feiyu immediately recognized her as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast, causing Xiao Wu to fear that they intended to kill her for a Soul Ring and Soul Bone. Instead, Lu Shiyuan offered her food and warned her that human Soul Masters could identify and hunt her. 4 5

Seeking safer access to the human world, faster cultivation, a way to revive her mother, and eventual revenge against her enemies, Xiao Wu asked to travel with them. Xiao Feiyu made her acceptance conditional on defeating Lu Shiyuan; Xiao Wu lost decisively but was allowed to join them after promising to behave. 5 6

Xiao Feiyu gave Xiao Wu a carrot-pendant necklace that conceals her soul-beast aura and warned that removing it would expose her identity. With identification papers arranged through Spirit Hall, Xiao Wu entered Nuoding Academy as Lu Shiyuan's younger sister. 7 10

Personality

Initially, Xiao Wu is frightened, hungry, and inexperienced with human society. Her expectation that Lu Shiyuan and Xiao Feiyu would kill her reflects her awareness of the hostility between Soul Masters and soul beasts. Once treated kindly, she becomes energetic, trusting, and determined to remain with them. 4 5 6

She is deeply loyal to Lu Shiyuan, whom she recognizes as her brother. She comforts him quietly after Xiao Feiyu leaves, accepts his meditation technique only reluctantly because of its value, and promises to regard him as the most important person in her life. 8
