Acquisition and Absorption

Standard acquisition

Soul Masters ordinarily need to kill Soul Beasts to obtain Soul Rings and continue breaking through their ranks. This conflict makes transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts especially vulnerable, as they may provide both a Soul Ring and a guaranteed Soul Bone upon death 5.

• A Soul Ring’s absorbable age depends on the user’s physique, Martial Soul quality, and accumulated Soul Power rather than a fixed universal limit 3.
• Cultivation before receiving a Soul Ring is still meaningful: accumulated Soul Power remains stored in the body and can produce a large increase once a ring is absorbed 2 4.
• Once absorption begins, outside interference cannot safely stop the process 11.
• Thousand-Year Soul Rings are purple, while Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Rings are blood-red 11 23.
• A Soul Ring dropped by a slain Soul Beast can only be absorbed by the person who delivered the killing blow. Stronger allies may subdue the beast, but the intended recipient must finish it personally. 78 88
• A suitable, undisturbed environment is essential. Interference during absorption can sever meridians or cause death, and an unabsorbed ring can dissipate within an hour. 11 81

Xiao Feiyu explicitly rejects the widely accepted 423-year limit for a first Soul Ring. In her explanation, even a Hundred-Thousand-Year first ring is theoretically possible if the recipient’s body can withstand it. Lu Shiyuan’s first purple ring is made possible by intensive physical training, lightning tempering, an effective meditation method, and his exceptionally high-quality Martial Souls 3 4 11.

System-issued Soul Rings

Lu Shiyuan’s system bypasses Soul Beast hunting for his own Soul Rings. It issues missions, then provides rings of an age and Soul Skill suited to his capabilities after completion 2 3 10.

• The first mission required enrollment at Nuoding Academy. 2 10
• The second required defeating a Soul Beast older than three thousand years alone; killing a defenseless Meridian Lotus did not qualify. 20 21
• The system’s rewards also include Soul Bones, compatible Soul Skills, and heavenly treasures. 2
• The third-ring mission required fifty consecutive victories in 1v1 matches at any Great Soul Arena. Although Lu Shiyuan still had only two rings, his level-thirty cultivation placed him against Soul Elder-level or stronger opponents. Defeating Chen Xuan completed the mission and delivered the ring to system storage. 33 38
• The fifth-ring mission required joining Shrek Academy. Lu Shiyuan subsequently absorbed the reward at his residence rather than hunting a Soul Beast. 40 57 58
• System-issued rings do not contain a slain Soul Beast’s resentment and cause no corresponding mental backlash. For Lu Shiyuan, physical endurance is therefore the principal limit on the age he can absorb. 58

System acquisition still requires Lu Shiyuan to retrieve and absorb each ring himself. His first absorption lasts an hour, his second a full day and night, his third two days, and his fifth seven days 10 11 23 39 58.

For the second mission, defeating the Nether Wolf is sufficient; Lu Shiyuan deliberately spares it because he has no use for its natural Soul Ring. His reward is a separate system-issued ring rather than the defeated beast’s ring 20 22 23.

Condensed Soul Rings

As a transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast before maturity, Xiao Wu can condense her own Soul Rings without hunting Soul Beasts 19.

• Her second condensed Soul Ring is purple.
• Its Soul Skill, Soft Bone, reduces an enemy’s defense by 10% per successful attack, up to five stacks.
• At maximum stacks, it inflicts an uncleansable three-second joint-shattering control effect. 22
• Her condensed rings need not follow conventional age ratios; their attainable age depends on what her body can withstand. Lu Shiyuan encourages her to strengthen her physique through his family’s meditation method. 11
• After refining Lovesick Heartbreak Red, she condenses a third Soul Ring a little over 4,000 years old but below 5,000 years, reaching level 32 with medicinal power still remaining. 30

Adjusting a Soul Beast’s cultivation

Lu Shiyuan demonstrates that a prospective ring’s absorption difficulty can be reduced by lowering the source beast’s cultivation before killing it. When an over-two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider exceeds Meng Yiran’s capacity, he asks Dugu Bo to force it to maintain its avatar state, reducing its cultivation over several minutes. He then directs Meng Yiran to kill it before its cultivation falls unnecessarily far 83 87.

Meng Yiran produces a purple ring with the killing blow and begins absorbing it behind a Soul Power barrier established by Dugu Bo, Meng Shu, and Chao Tianxiang. The barrier prevents Tang San’s interference. During absorption, she endures a strong mental shock and subsequently manifests the Eight Spider Lances External Soul Bone 87 88.

Sacrifice and Ring Detonation

A Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast’s sacrifice can provide a Soul Ring. Ah Yin’s sacrifice gave Tang Hao a Hundred-Thousand-Year ring with powerful healing properties, which later help him survive his accumulated injuries and reach Heaven Dou City 90.

Soul Rings can also be used through Ring Detonation. Tang Hao repeatedly employs this technique to escape stronger opponents; after Xiao Feiyu severely wounds him, its use further contributes to his prolonged incapacity 16 46.

Documented Soul Rings

Although Zhu Zhuqing’s Bloodblade Mantis is explicitly identified as approximately 11,000 years old and her reward is subsequently described as a Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring, the ring’s initial appearance is described as red. This color description does not change the stated age of its source 78 80.

Recorded configurations

Concealment

Lu Shiyuan uses a dragon-head necklace left by Xiao Feiyu to conceal his aura and disguise his Soul Rings. This prevents the abnormality of his purple first Soul Ring from drawing attention before he can protect himself 11.

Xiao Wu wears a separate carrot pendant necklace that conceals her Soul Beast aura. Removing it would expose her transformed Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast identity 7.

The disguise remains in use as Lu Shiyuan advances. During his encounter with Dugu Yan, both of his rings are disguised, leaving Dugu Bo unaware that the first is also purple. At Shrek Academy, he presents a yellow-purple-purple-black configuration despite actually possessing two purple and two black rings 26 48 50.

Xiao Feiyu also supplies a conventional hunting explanation for his fifth-ring absence. She requests seven days of leave on the pretext of taking him to hunt, while he actually spends that time absorbing his system-issued ring at his residence. Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing know that he does not need to hunt Soul Beasts for his rings and help guard him 57 58.

Soul Skill Selection and Combat Value

At low cultivation levels, Soul Rings provide most of a Soul Master’s available abilities. Consequently, the difference between having no ring and possessing a first ring is much greater than a small numerical level difference alone suggests 5.

• Age and efficiency: Lu Shiyuan’s unusually old rings grant skills that are both stronger and less costly in Soul Power than ordinary counterparts. His 1,500-year Time Blade Pierce demonstrates this advantage against the Nether Wolf, and his high-age rings later combine with dense Soul Power and rapid recovery to sustain prolonged combat. 22 59
• Complementary development: Lu Shiyuan argues that Blue Silver Grass should first gain toughness from early rings, with strong poison added through a later, higher-age ring. In his assessment, a roughly four-hundred-year first ring supplies poison too weak to remain effective against stronger opponents. 18
• Practical limitations: Tang San’s early binding skill remains vulnerable to physical force and fire. During a 2v2 match, Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix Fire Line burns through the grass restraining their opponents, undermining their teamwork. 18 62
• Filling gaps in a skill set: Zhu Zhuqing’s fourth-ring hunt targets attack frequency because her existing skills already supply movement speed, armor penetration, and explosive clones. A Bloodblade Mantis is selected for its exceptional attack speed. 75
• Hunting cost versus reward: A powerful Soul Beast does not necessarily grant a proportionately better ring. Ten-Thousand-Year Bloodblade Mantises are considered poor value for most hunters because subduing one may require several Soul Saints or a stronger helper, while its ring is not correspondingly superior to other Ten-Thousand-Year options. 76
• Soul Bone supplementation: Soul Bones can provide abilities beyond the skill selection supplied by rings. As a five-ring Soul King, Lu Shiyuan possesses at least nine active skills when his Soul Bone skills are included, without counting his innate domain or set passives. 77

During his spar with Dugu Yan, Lu Shiyuan uses his second-ring spatial ability to swallow poisonous mist and then drains one quarter of her Soul Power in five seconds with a rift beneath her. His later acquisition of Dragon Eye Gaze and Time-Void Binding further develops the control capabilities of his ring-based skill set 26 39 58.
