Northern Frontier Service

An Jun spent decades stationed at Iceforest City, Heaven Dou’s northernmost city and a fortress bordering the Frozen Forest. He repeatedly rendered distinguished service to the empire and became a trusted friend of Emperor Xue Ye. His son, An Beichen, succeeded him as the city’s commanding officer after his reassignment 57 133.

His years beside the Frozen Forest also provided cultivation resources. Before becoming Huo Lei’s guardian, he had acquired three ten-thousand-year Soul Bones. His eighth Soul Ring came from a seventy-thousand-year Frost Giant Ape hunted in the Far North 143 151.

Huo Lei’s Secret Protector

Xue Ye personally introduced An Jun to Huo Lei and assigned him to provide protection from the shadows. Huo Lei arranged for Lin Yin to inform Jin Shan, fearing that his teacher might mistake the concealed guardian for a threat 57 58.

After accompanying the imperial delegation that visited Blazing Fire Academy, An Jun gave Huo Lei a Bamboo Whistle with which to summon him. Huo Lei then introduced him to Jin Shan. Their initially tense meeting ended with Jin Shan helping him overcome a cultivation bottleneck and accepting him as a sworn younger brother 103 104 105.

An Jun subsequently followed the students’ expedition to Death Grand Canyon. He continued watching over Huo Lei during the four-year training period and followed the group home when it ended 115 125.

Northern Soul Ring Expedition

An Jun maintained his discreet escort during the journey to Skywater City, staying in a nearby hotel rather than entering Skywater Academy. During a later detour to Heaven Dou City, he obtained Xue Ye’s authorization for Huo Lei to recruit a willing Soul Master from Heaven Dou Royal Academy. His friendship with Meng Shenji helped facilitate their reception there 127 128 129 130.

On returning north, An Jun hosted the party at his Iceforest City residence and introduced his son. He then guided the group through the Frozen Forest, subdued a Frost Demon Frog for Shui Bing’er’s sixth Soul Ring, and helped search for suitable beasts for the others before the party entered the Far North 133 134 135 136 141.

There, the party discovered the Ice Leopard Emperor fighting the Snow Soul Bear King. After the leopard was injured and had exhausted its life-saving ability, Huo Lei restrained it with Thunder Domain while An Jun delivered the killing blow. An Jun absorbed its red Soul Ring under his companions’ protection 144 146 148.

Profound Ice Marrow Cultivation

An Jun and Huo Lei investigated the cave contested by the two beast kings and found Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow. Although An Jun could reach it, he could not break it free. Huo Lei instead proposed that he absorb its energy and transfer it to Shui Bing’er and Xue Wu, allowing them to benefit without enduring the deepest part of the cave 149 150 151.

After supporting their cultivation and assisting further hunts, An Jun eventually began absorbing the marrow solely for his own advancement. Seven days later, he emerged at peak level 95, unable to absorb more for the time being 152 154 162.

• Hair and eyes: Completely white hair and beard, with ice-blue eyes 58 103.
• Clothing: Changes into pure white clothing when welcoming the party to Iceforest City 133.

Personality

An Jun normally wears a cold, unapproachable expression and remains composed during ordinary affairs. His experience as Huo Lei’s hidden guardian leaves him familiar with most of the people and situations his charge encounters 105 127.

Despite his stern bearing, he is hospitable toward friends and family. He warmly welcomes Huo Lei’s party into his home and readily volunteers his blood to test Yunxiang’s copying ability. He also shows restraint toward the academy student who insults him, accepting the apology and offering a warning rather than punishment 130 133 137.

He respects strength and initially hesitates to call Jin Shan his elder brother because of their difference in cultivation. He is also openly enthusiastic about exceptional cultivation opportunities and unfamiliar abilities: the prospect of a hundred-thousand-year Soul Ring excites him, while Shui Bing’er’s Ice Explosion makes him question her with childlike curiosity 105 144 146 156.

Frost Snow Leopard Martial Soul

An ice-and-snow-attribute Martial Soul shared by his son, An Beichen 133.

• Before obtaining his ninth ring, his configuration is two yellow, two purple, and four black Soul Rings 134.

First Soul Skill: Ice Claw Blades

Releases ten crescent-shaped ice blades from his hands 135.

A detection skill that An Jun identifies while explaining his abilities to the party 135.

Third Soul Skill: Snow-Treading Without a Trace

A movement skill that lets him rapidly shift position, covering ten meters almost immediately upon activation 134.

• Leaves white afterimages as he evades attacks 135.
• Combines with Powerful Leopard Tail to close the distance and seize an opponent 135.

Fourth Soul Skill: Powerful Leopard Tail

Manifests a highly flexible white tail roughly five meters long and as thick as an adult’s thigh 135.

• Sweeps aside incoming ice projectiles 135.

Fifth Soul Skill: Cold Ice Shield

A powerful single-target attack obtained from a seventy-thousand-year Frost Giant Ape 143 146.

• Gathers cold energy over his right fist and projects an enormous white fist toward the target 146.
• Kills the injured Ice Leopard Emperor with a direct strike to its head after Huo Lei restrains it 146.

Northern Wilderness Expertise

His decades on the frontier make him a knowledgeable guide to ice-and-snow Soul Beasts 133 134 144.

• Identifies beasts and estimates cultivation age from their physical characteristics, including Frost Demon Frogs and Ice Jade Scorpions 134 154.
• Warns that a forty-thousand-year Vermilion-Eyed Ice Toad’s cold poison could threaten even his life without treatment 141.
• Explains Frost Snow Leopard concealment and the use of spiritual detection to counter it 145.
