A thunderous rumble rang out again and again.
Thanos had Superman by the head, pinning him to the ground as he ran forward.
A deep furrow opened in the earth behind them.
Superman wanted to fight back, but the terrifying strength in Thanos's hand kept him from prying even one finger loose.
Damn it. How is this giant purple brute so strong?
After a while, Thanos stopped and hurled Superman into a mountain.
Boom!
Superman punched straight through the peak and flew toward space.
But Apokolips's gravity soon pulled him back down.
Just then, a red beam zigzagged toward Thanos.
It was Darkseid's famous signature attack: the Omega Beams.
The next instant, the Omega Beams struck Thanos.
Darkseid's spirits rose.

In all his life, Darkseid had never seen anyone withstand the Omega Beams except Superman, with his body of steel.
But the beams did not pierce his enemy as Darkseid had expected.
Instead, the large purple face looked back at him with amusement.
"I remember now. Your name's Darkseid, isn't it?"
With that, Thanos casually brushed the spot where the Omega Beams had struck, as though dusting himself off.
The moment he saw Superman's unmistakable underwear worn on the outside, Thanos had remembered where he must be.

And beneath the supreme God were many other powerful beings.
Doctor Manhattan, Lucifer, the Darkest Knight, and more.
Darkseid was one of the DC Universe's powerful Supervillains, as well as Superman's mortal enemy.
But that description no longer seemed quite right.
