Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as Yu Yuanzhen’s son. Before awakening his Martial Soul at six, he regarded himself as a promising child of one of the Upper Three Sects. His mutated Swine Martial Soul became a source of lasting shame 6 104.

He later became romantically involved with Bibi Dong while she was Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden. According to Xuan Jian, she gave him access to confidential Spirit Hall books to improve his standing and persuade Qian Xunji to accept their relationship. Yu Xiaogang also married his paternal cousin Liu Erlong, but abandoned her on their wedding night 159 180.

By Tang San’s arrival in Notting City, Yu Xiaogang was living as a guest at the Junior Soul Master Academy. He sought a gifted disciple whose achievements could establish his reputation as a true master 4.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang’s central ambition is to prove that he is neither useless nor a fraud. He treats Tang San’s future success as the means to vindicate his theories, restore his reputation, and answer his family’s contempt. Even after imprisonment and the destruction of his cultivation, he still thinks about raising Tang San into the world’s greatest Titled Douluo 104 138 161.

He is acutely sensitive to humiliation. Although he initially maintains a calm manner when Yan Beifei challenges him, public ridicule drives him to kill the much weaker boy. Afterward, he checks Yan Beifei’s background and feels relieved to discover that his victim is a village commoner without influential connections 4 5 6.

His concern for Tang San also overlaps with self-preservation. He tries to conceal the circumstances surrounding Tang Weiwei’s reported death partly because he fears Tang San will blame him and sever their relationship. Story Role / Major Arcs

Recruiting Tang San

Yu Xiaogang intervenes during Tang San’s confrontation with the academy gatekeeper, verifies his certificate, and identifies his Twin Martial Souls. Before Tang San can accept him, Yan Beifei interrupts and publicly questions his strength, teaching ability, and motives 4.

After confirming that Tang San will not interfere, Yu Xiaogang kills Yan Beifei with Luo Sanpao’s first Soul Skill. Tang San then kneels and accepts him as his teacher, valuing the knowledge that allowed him to recognize the Twin Martial Souls 5 6.

Disgrace and Expulsion

At Shrek, Yu Tianlong exposes Yu Xiaogang’s past and challenges his theories in front of the students. Yu Xiaogang’s failure to explain Soul Shock further damages Tang San’s trust. Tianlong then castrates him despite Flender’s intervention 84 85.

When Tianlong and his escort are killed on their journey home, Yu Yuanzhen investigates Shrek and ultimately expels Yu Xiaogang. The replacement surname brands him as an unforgivable sinner against the sect. Yu Xiaogang responds by abandoning hope of returning and concentrating on a Tang San-centered team 86 104.

Tournament Humiliation

Gossip about Yu Xiaogang’s relationship with Liu Erlong spreads during the Heaven Dou preliminary tournament. Xuan Jian subsequently defeats Shrek, then outperforms Yu Xiaogang in a public theoretical exchange prompted by Lin Yuan’s hired questioners. Yu Xiaogang flees amid the crowd’s laughter 124 129.

After Tang Weiwei’s reported death, he attempts to keep the news from Tang San. Tang Hao permits him to remain Tang San’s teacher but stresses that he must secure the method for cultivating Twin Martial Souls. Yu Xiaogang leaves for Spirit City, unaware that Tang San’s resentment and intention to dispose of him will be exposed publicly through the Remnant Dream Domain 137 138 142 149.

Spirit City and Avici Purgatory

Lin Yuan intercepts Yu Xiaogang while disguised as Flender and flies him toward Spirit City. At the Papal Palace, Lin Yuan assumes Xuan Jian’s appearance, seizes the Pope Token, and has Yu Xiaogang arrested under the pretext of impersonating an elder 157 158 167.

In Avici Purgatory, a jailer destroys his Soul Power and sends him to Cell No. 11, where death-row prisoners sexually assault him. The real Xuan Jian discovers that someone has used his identity to arrange the imprisonment and decides to kill Yu Xiaogang to prevent the scheme from implicating him 161 167.

Gui Mei kills the prisoners, and Xuan Jian prepares to execute Yu Xiaogang. Bibi Dong arrives before the killing can be completed. The incident deepens her hostility toward Xuan Jian, whom she later declares deserving of death for humiliating, tormenting, and threatening Yu Xiaogang 162 167 180.
