Though startled and surprised, Sifa was a transmigrator.
He had even experienced transmigration. A family that knew of the mysterious world was, at most, a stone tossed into a lake, sending ripples across his heart before it quickly calmed.
Still, on the surface, Sifa controlled his expression and tried his best to look shocked.
"Beyonders? God, they really exist?"
Bison said with a smile, "It seems you know something about this."
Sifa shrugged. "I gained a lot from this trip. On the ship, I heard some adventurers mention them. But I never expected them to really exist. I originally thought they were just legends."
The Baron laughed heartily. "So, son, which road do you want to choose?"
After thinking briefly, Sifa replied with a smile, "Father, I don't think these two paths conflict. I can become a Beyonder while helping you develop the family business."
"Of course, if I have to choose only one, then I choose the second path. I'm quite interested in the mysterious world. I want to become a Beyonder."
Bison burst into laughter. "Good, very good! A man should have ambition! We'll do as you say. There's no need to rush into helping me for now. Let Enilu give you a general explanation of Beyonders. I'm not particularly knowledgeable in that area."
This was another thing that surprised Sifa. This time, he was genuinely astonished as he looked at the gentle, elegant woman beside him.
"You don't need to be so surprised. I can tell you now as well. Your mother is a Beyonder," Bison said, dropping another bombshell.
He then sighed. "Your mother and I did not come together purely out of love, though that was certainly a large part of it."
"Your grandfather, my father, the esteemed Viscount Morant, never particularly liked me. And my brothers believed I threatened their status and assets."
"So, behind your grandfather's back, they did quite a few disgraceful things. During one of those incidents, I met your mother."
"From then on, your mother has supported me, shielding this family from the black hands reaching for it from the shadows. It was precisely because she was a Beyonder that I was able to gain a foothold in Enqi Town and have everything I possess today."
Listening to his father's account, Sifa stared at his mother, Enilu, in disbelief. He could not believe that such a woman was a Beyonder, and that she had fought in the darkness more than once.
Enilu shook her head helplessly. "Sifa, the mysterious world is not as wonderful as you imagine. Of course, I won't—and cannot—stop you from entering this world."
"Since you have such intentions, I'll give you a simple explanation."
"As for the background and origins of Beyonders, once you become one of them, I'll teach you the relevant knowledge."
"For now, you only need to know that there are many Beyonder Pathways. As for exactly which ones, even I do not know them all. And what we can offer you is only a few choices."[Note 1]
Sifa knew that what his mother was about to say would determine the direction of his future life. He did not dare be careless, pricking up his ears and unwilling to miss a single detail.
"First, I once studied under a member of an ancient family. That family was Abraham. They were once the greatest aristocratic family of the Tudor Empire and controlled the Apprentice Sequence."
"As the student of one of that family's members, I am naturally a Beyonder of this Sequence as well. If you want to take this Pathway, I can at least provide all the low- and mid-Sequence potion formulas, including Sequence 6, Scribe."
"During my adventures in my youth, I also obtained the starting formula for the Hunter Sequence, Sequence 9. But for this Sequence, I only know clues to the Sequence 8 formula. I know nothing about potion formulas for higher Sequences."
Hunter! His mother actually possessed the starting formula for the Hunter Sequence!
The problem was that she only possessed the potion formula for the starting Sequence. For the next Sequence, she only knew clues, and knew nothing about potion formulas for higher Sequences.
Sifa gathered his thoughts and continued listening to his mother.
Enilu paused before continuing, "Besides those two choices, you can also join a church if you want to become a Beyonder."
"The Church of the Evernight Goddess possesses the complete Sleepless Sequence. Your father donates no less than a thousand pounds to the church every year, so it should not be difficult to have you join them."
"The Church of Storms possesses the Sailor Sequence. Although there is no Church of Storms in our town, Chief Kaoxi, who has close dealings with your father, is himself a believer of the Storm."
"He has a deep friendship with a bishop of the Church of Storms. Through his recommendation, you can join the Church of Storms."
"Finally, you have another option. The Royal Family of our kingdom possesses the Arbiter Sequence. With our connections, obtaining the starting formula for this Sequence would not be difficult."
"Those are the choices we can provide."
"The problem is that whether it is the churches or the Royal Family, if you want to obtain the High Sequence formulas for their respective Pathways, you must accept their supervision and contribute to them in exchange for what you need."
Other than lacking the Savant Sequence and having an additional Apprentice Sequence, this was basically the same as Mr. Faceless's suggestion.
Sure enough, churches and the Royal Family could provide relatively stable advancement opportunities, but one had to accept supervision and make contributions. To become a Beyonder, one had to pay a price.
Hmm, another Watcher suggested that I choose Mystery Pryer, but Mother did not mention any information about that at all...
Sifa took a deep breath. Countless thoughts flashed through his mind like lightning, until an answer finally surfaced in the lake of his heart.
"I choose Hunter!"
I really do prefer Pathways with destructive power. People should still follow their own hearts.
Moreover, the Hunter Sequence strengthened one's physical abilities from the start and greatly improved combat-related skills.
The original owner already had excellent marksmanship and fighting skills. He was highly compatible with Hunter. Sifa once again affirmed his choice inwardly.
Enilu said worriedly, "Are you sure? If you choose this Sequence, you may only be able to stop at Sequence 8. Even so, do you still want to choose it?"
"I'm sure!" Sifa nodded decisively. Perhaps, in his mother's view, once this Pathway reached Sequence 7, there would no longer be any clues to the formula.
But Sifa had the Book of Mysteries and could communicate with Watchers beyond the dimensions. He believed that High Sequence formulas were hard to say, but these Watchers should know clues about the low and mid Sequences.
At the very least, he should be able to advance to Sequence 6. As for potion formulas of even higher levels, he could deal with that later.
"Very well."
Enilu showed a somewhat helpless smile. "Since you have chosen this Pathway, I will prepare the corresponding potion for you."
"However, before drinking the potion, you need to learn meditation first. It's getting late, so let's go to the dining room. I'll teach you meditation tomorrow."
"After all, several ingredients in the formula will take time to gather. That will probably take three to five days."
"So for the next few days, practice meditation seriously and prepare yourself to become a Beyonder!"
