In the study.
After Sifa left, the Bisons did not leave.
The baron habitually rubbed his forehead. "That child... are you sure there's really nothing wrong with him?"
Enilu shook her head. "When you said he had changed so much, as if he were a different person, I performed a divination."
"Don't worry, he is still himself. At least, that is what the divination told me."
Bison nodded lightly. "Then I'm relieved. I've invested quite a lot in him."
At those words, a trace of displeasure flashed through Enilu's eyes.
Meanwhile, Sifa returned to his bedroom and threw himself onto the bed.
But he was too excited. That night, he did not sleep deeply and got up before dawn.
After breakfast, his mother Enilu finally brought Sifa to a quiet room that he had never visited in his memories.
The room was filled with bookshelves crammed with books. There were also two long wooden tables covered with test tubes, droppers, beakers, and other items. It looked just like a laboratory.
There was another wooden door at the back of the room, carved with symbols Sifa could not understand. He had no idea what they meant.
"Today, I'll teach you meditation."
His mother's voice made Sifa focus. The woman, dressed in a simple gown, had somehow put on a pair of glasses and looked like a scholar.
"After you drink a potion, its power will usually overflow. Your vision will become abnormal, and you'll hear sounds you could not hear before."
"At times like that, you need meditation to control and restrain it, until you have completely mastered the potion's power."
Sifa was eager to try. "Mom, what do I do?"
A smile bloomed on Enilu's face. "Don't rush, child. Listen to me. For now, you only need to learn simple, beginner-level meditation."
"Relax your body and mind, close your eyes, and concentrate. Picture an object in your mind. Something simple and easy will do; it doesn't need to be too complicated."
"After you form that object in your mind, focus all your attention on it and repeat it, sketching it over and over."
"Until you can instinctively sketch it out the moment you close your eyes, you will have completed this exercise."
Sifa nodded slightly. "I'll try it now."
He found a chair in the room and sat down, closing his eyes and relaxing as he sketched the Serpent-Scale Revolver in his mind.
During his previous adventure at sea, it had left a deep impression on Sifa.
Before long, Sifa discovered that it was difficult to fully recreate the revolver in his mind. Its structure was still too complicated.
He decided to change it.
Then he suddenly thought of the Book of Mysteries. Its outline was very simple, and it held special meaning for Sifa.
This one!
Sifa began sketching the shape of the Book of Mysteries in his mind, imagining the feeling of holding it in his hands. As he repeated the process over and over, that heavy tome became clearer and clearer in his mind.
Several days passed like this.
On the evening of the fourth day, after dinner, Enilu brought Sifa to the "laboratory" again.
"I've gathered the two missing supplementary ingredients. Tonight, I can brew the Hunter potion for you."
His mother said this as she opened the door, making Sifa surge with excitement. He was finally about to enter the mysterious world and become one of the Beyonders.
After the gas lamps in the room were lit one by one, Enilu walked over to the door covered in mysterious symbols. She pushed it open and took out ingredient after ingredient from inside.
Some were leaves, some were branches, and some were unknown organs soaked in a certain liquid inside containers.
As Enilu placed these ingredients into a large iron pot in a particular order, she said, "Low-Sequence potions are very simple to brew. You only need to add the ingredients in the order listed in the formula, in specific quantities, and then stir them."
"It doesn't matter if there is slightly more or less of the supplementary ingredients. As for the main ingredients, there can be a little less, but not too much less. What you need to remember is that there must never be too much. Even a tiny excess can lead to serious consequences."
Enilu raised her head and calmly looked at her son. "If you ever need to brew potions yourself in the future, you must remember this."
Sifa nodded firmly, committing his mother's words to memory and not daring to forget them.
At that moment, Enilu opened the container holding the mysterious organ and fished out the object inside, which looked somewhat like a heart.
The moment it left the liquid in the container, flame-like red light flickered from within it from time to time, displaying its power.
"This is the heart of a Pas Red Wolf. These wild wolves are extraordinary creatures. They are excellent hunters, highly intelligent, and know how to use traps to hunt."
"Its heart is the main ingredient of the Hunter potion. Without it, the correct potion cannot be brewed."
Enilu tossed the heart into the iron pot. When the red wolf's heart came into contact with the ingredients inside, flames suddenly erupted for no reason.
Within the flames, Sifa vaguely saw the ingredients begin to break down. Yet they did not disappear; instead, they gathered together.
The bright red flames in the iron pot gave Sifa a strange feeling of soaring passion and fighting spirit.
The flames seemed to awaken some instinct in his genes, making him crave battle and feel close to fire.
When the flames in the pot went out, the ingredients had vanished. Only a mass of viscous crimson liquid remained, separated from one another and easily poured into a cup.
Enilu lifted the cup. "All right, this is the Hunter potion."
Sifa walked over and took the cup. He had already read about the protagonist obtaining his first potion in Lord of Mysteries.
Therefore, he was not surprised by the viscous red liquid in the cup. Under his mother Enilu's watchful gaze, Sifa drank the potion.
The potion entered his mouth and slid down his throat. It had no particular taste, but carried a slight warmth.
After drinking the potion, Sifa's entire body began to convulse. He felt as if tens of thousands of tiny insects were writhing beneath his skin. The surroundings became unreal, one of his hands growing longer while the other shortened. He heard beasts roaring, the sounds sometimes clear and sometimes muffled.
He groaned, feeling his emotions turn violent and wanting to vent them.
Then Enilu's voice sounded beside him. "Meditate, Sifa. Follow the practice from the past few days. Use meditation to control the overflow of the potion's power."
Sifa hurriedly concentrated, skillfully sketching the outline of the Book of Mysteries and imagining its weight, feeling its mystery.
Gradually, the violent emotions faded, and he could no longer hear the beasts' roars. When he opened his eyes again, the scene was still somewhat blurry, but it no longer had that unreal feeling, as if it had receded into the background.
He looked at his hands. They were perfectly normal, with no difference in length.
Sifa could feel every muscle in his hands and body filled with strength. Moreover, he could precisely control those muscles, allowing them to unleash power beyond ordinary people's imagination whenever necessary.
He discovered that his nose had become more sensitive, able to distinguish the different scents of different things in the room. His vision had become sharper as well, allowing him to see insects flying outside the window by the light.
His skin had become sensitive, allowing him to distinguish the materials of different objects through touch. His hearing had grown keener, and from here, he could vaguely hear his younger siblings arguing in the hall.
In addition, the knowledge he had once learned about swordsmanship, combat, and other fields had suddenly become clear, and he had already mastered it deeply.
Sifa could recall those movements, break them down, and combine them freely, forming smooth, continuous attacks!
Even more knowledge surfaced from his mind—knowledge about making traps. It allowed Sifa to use the materials at hand to create simple but deadly traps.
Given sufficient time and materials, Sifa could even construct a series of interconnected traps!
He took a deep breath, feeling the earthshaking changes in himself, and said in a voice only he could hear, "I succeeded."
"I am already a Hunter!"
