At the Tarot Club, the members were discussing Lenburg's great victory in the Snason Region.
When the conversation turned to Lenburg's new weapons, Odys was more than willing to share what he knew.
But the two terms he used—"airplane" and "rocket launcher"—left the other members momentarily stunned. Both were new to them.
Odys explained, "An airplane can carry large amounts of ammunition and bomb ground targets from high above."
"Moon" Emlyn could not help interrupting. "It can fly?"
"It can," Odys replied with a smile.
Emlyn, who possessed Bat Illusory Wings, paused before asking, "Wouldn't that consume a great deal of spirituality? And require an extremely complicated magic formation?"
Aside from "Fool" Klein, none of the members could imagine what a flying Beyonder device might look like.
Mystical knowledge could be used to make certain things fly; that in itself was not difficult.
But they all knew that the weapons Lenburg unveiled to the public could be mass-produced. That was the part they could not picture.
"It doesn't rely entirely on spirituality," Odys said. "It involves the principles of aerodynamics.
"Broadly speaking, given enough acceleration and the right shape, air can lift an airplane into flight."
Emlyn and the others nodded, though their faces remained blank and puzzled. This was the first time they had heard of a field called aerodynamics.
Odys did not try to explain further. "In actual combat, though, we found airplanes better suited to reconnaissance.
"From the sky, they can find and identify targets relatively easily, then quickly relay that information to troops on the ground."
Odys therefore intended to focus next on developing their reconnaissance capabilities. As for bombing, he felt it was less effective than Beyonder Rocket Launchers and Spirit Wave Cannons. It would be better to wait until missiles had been developed, then
