Geography and Society
Lenburg is a small state situated among larger powers. Its eastern neighbors include the Loen Kingdom and the former Masin Kingdom; its western territory forms part of the Northern Continent's central plateau, an area historically troubled by banditry. Its stated foreign policy was alliance with Loen, normal relations with Intis, and hostility toward Feynapotter. 344
Isara combines old monochromatic architecture with brightly colored modern buildings. Public reading is a conspicuous part of city life, with benches and small tables used by residents to read and write in the streets. 344
- Vota Province — A troubled western province selected by Odys as the focus of his proposed refugee, construction, and anti-bandit policies. 346
- Soloto State — A Radical-controlled region and a major theater during Lenburg's internal conflict. 407 408
- Shattier Province — One of Odys's territories and a planned destination for Stiano Family Beyonders. 408
- Masin territories — Reorganized into four states after Lenburg's conquest, alongside six states in Lenburg proper. 441
Political History
Reformist rise
Odys entered Lenburg politics through the Church of Knowledge, first seeking an administrative role in the western provinces. His examination proposals emphasized employing refugees in construction, granting reclaimed land in exchange for service against bandits, and addressing corruption and foreign infiltration; he was assigned to Vota Province after receiving an exceptional score. 346
His Radical faction later secured ministerial positions in finance, education and religion, industry, and commerce. It also gained control of Vota, Shattier, and Soloto through governors nominally drawn from the Radicals but managed by Mandy. 415
End of the monarchy
Lenburg's civil conflict culminated in the systematic removal of the Royal Family's Beyonders and allied noble power. Odys forced King Conrad I to commit suicide, installed a young royal as a symbolic monarch, and declared that the old noble order would be replaced by a centralized government. 427
The subsequent constitutional changes stripped the monarch of executive, military, and judicial power. A Parliament was created with substantial farmer and worker representation, but its intended role was to communicate public concerns rather than direct national policy; cabinet administration and ultimate authority remained under Odys. 427
Presidency and reconstruction
Odys was elected Lenburg's first president and began a census, property survey, official Beyonder recruitment, and colonial-defense preparations. 427 His later reconstruction program redrew the country and newly annexed Masin into ten states, dissolved the State Guard, centralized authority, and absorbed dismissed officials into state enterprises and the Lenburg Reconstruction Committee. 441
Government and Public Policy
- Central authority — The government controls executive, military, and judicial functions; the monarch is retained only as a national symbol. 427
- Parliament — Includes workers and farmers but does not possess sovereign control over national policy. 427
- Education — Lenburg plans to teach mysticism, Gal Runes, and Extraordinary Technology through a unified curriculum, with paths into research and engineering for non-Beyonders. 435
- Labor policy — Odys proposed an eight-hour workday and forty-hour workweek, with nationalization as a potential response to factory owners who refused to comply. 435
- Child welfare — Newsboys were removed from the streets and sent to school as part of Lenburg's social reforms. 468
- Integration policy — Elves are recognized as Lenburg citizens rather than forced to hide their identities; Sanguine settlement is permitted under ordinary law and communication requirements, without compulsory military service. 447
Extraordinary Technology
Lenburg's rise is closely tied to Extraordinary Technology: the repeatable application of mystical principles to vehicles, communications, weapons, infrastructure, and civilian production. 440
Research and Industry
- The Lenburg Research Institute develops Beyonder technology and organizes specialized research teams. 402 435
- Early armored-vehicle prototypes combined Portable Spirit Wave Cannons, Beyonder machine guns, spiritual engines or levitation arrays, and Spirit-Storage Crystals. 402
- Lenburg later fielded hover buses, driverless systems, automated construction equipment, high-rise construction, household appliances, and automated production lines. 468
- Aircraft use Anti-Gravity Formations, Levitation Arrays, and jet propulsion. 447
- Railways were planned to link Vota, Soloto, and Shattier, reducing reliance on Isara as the political center. 408
Military Doctrine
Lenburg combines technological firepower with Beyonder forces, including Beyonder Marionettes, Teleportation Arrays, Spirit World movement, missile strikes, artillery, and Angel-level deterrence. 440 463
Its battlefield headquarters includes an airborne Comprehensive Command Ship equipped with magic formations, missile-control systems, and Beyonder detection technology. 463 The Red Angel evil spirit Medici directs much of Lenburg's modern warfare, using rapid mobility, reconnaissance, precise strikes, and withdrawal before enemy reinforcements can respond. 463
Wars and Expansion
Annexation of Masin
Lenburg captured Masin's capital within two days of deployment, an advance attributed to unprecedented mobility and new weapons. 440 Masin's remaining army later collapsed through battlefield defeat, surrender, and desertion, while Lenburg's tanks and Beyonder Marionettes routed Feynapotter forces attempting to intervene. 440
Following the conquest, Odys stabilized Masin through land redistribution, employment programs, reconstruction, and sixty new parliamentary seats for the region. 441
Wars with Feynapotter
Lenburg's forces used tanks, Spirit Wave Cannons, artillery, aircraft, rockets, teleportation, and Beyonder Marionettes against Feynapotter. These weapons rendered conventional cavalry and mass infantry formations disastrously vulnerable. 440 441 455
At the Battle of Niroc, Lenburg and its allies killed six Feynapotter Demi-Gods and one Demi-God of the Moses Ascetic Order, severely weakening Feynapotter's long-term international position. 455
Lenburg later achieved its immediate maritime objectives through missile attacks, teleportation raids, mines, and coordinated withdrawals, forcing Feynapotter to abandon Midway Island. 463
Postwar order
At peace talks in Isara, Lenburg used its technological superiority to secure market access, machinery purchases, territorial recognition, and broad economic cooperation rather than demanding extreme reparations. The settlement ended the wider war after roughly a year and a half, leaving Lenburg with expanded territory, wealth, prestige, and influence. 468
Foreign Relations
- Loen Kingdom — Initially Lenburg's principal ally; the two states negotiated arms sales, trade access, tax concessions, and military cooperation after Lenburg's victories. 441
- Masin Kingdom — Conquered and incorporated into Lenburg's state structure after its military collapse. 440 441
- Feynapotter Kingdom — Lenburg's principal military rival; repeated wars and Lenburg's technological advantage severely weakened Feynapotter. 344 455
- Republic of Intis — A major diplomatic and military competitor. Lenburg used the threat of future action against Intis to constrain its western advance, then later drew Intis into technology-reciprocity agreements. 441 468
- Church of the God of Knowledge and Wisdom — Holds deep institutional influence in Lenburg through Saint Chester Church and Odys's political and mystical connections. 344 435
- Elf Islands — Elf Island became an autonomous Lenburg province, while additional Elven islands expressed willingness to submit to Lenburg. 447
Notable Institutions
- Lenburg Parliament — Representative body intended to express social concerns without exercising final state authority. 427
- Lenburg Research Institute — Center for Beyonder technology, weapon research, occult education, and industrial development. 402 435
- Saint Chester Church — The Church of Knowledge's second headquarters. 344
- Lenburg Embassy in Backlund — A major diplomatic post used to build ties with Loen's nobles and officials. 373 378
- Sword of Dawn — Odys's affiliated organization, supplying Beyonders, technology, intelligence, and military capacity to Lenburg's wider power structure. 407 408
