As beams of energy fired wildly around him, Baimu stared up at the "giant eye" in the sky. For a moment, he thought he had stumbled into a Pokémon mobile game.
But a strange sense of familiarity soon welled up inside him.
Cynthia was the first to offer an answer. "It looks a little like... Mega Evolution?"
"Are you sure it isn't Dynamax?"
Baimu gazed at the impossibly enormous "giant eye" Darkrai. The longer he looked, the more familiar it seemed.
At first glance, it looked like an eyeball. But when Darkrai's head emerged, he could see that the pupil was actually the ring of red, jagged material around its neck.
Its head was sticking out from the center of that jagged ring.
"Help me—"
Distorted, agonized wails kept echoing through the air, while the barrage of beams overhead never let up.
Shadow Rider Calyrex soared high into the air and raised his black lance, summoning countless "stars" to bombard the "stars" filling the sky. For a moment, explosions swallowed the entire heavens.
"Baimu! Something's wrong!"
Despite that spectacular display, Calyrex sent him a warning. "I can barely touch this creature's body!"
A small portion of his attack had been aimed at the giant-eyed Darkrai. But far from breaking through its defenses, the attack had not even reached it.
Baimu realized this was bad.
Darkrai was an ordinary Mythical Pokémon. It was neither exceptionally powerful like Mew, Arceus, or Hoopa, nor adept at bending special rules like Victini or Celebi.
It could fight, but by Mythical Pokémon standards, its combat ability was limited.
Under normal circumstances, Darkrai could never have stood against Shadow Rider Calyrex. The one in Alamos Town, for instance, had been helpless against Palkia and Dialga while they fought.
