Baimu had to count himself lucky that he'd encountered the Water Field during the qualifiers.
At the same time...
He'd faced a Tentacruel that had terrible luck and kept making mistakes. It had tried a Poison-type move against a Steel-type Pokémon, then frozen for a moment when Aggron used Surf, throwing away its chance for nothing.
It had held the type advantage, too.
Still, Baimu could understand.
That brief chance to adjust, followed by the opportunities the next two Water-type Pokémon gave Aggron, had made it increasingly at home in the water. It had even learned to swim on its back.
Aggron was reckless, though. Despite being weak to water, it had dared to counter a Water-type Pokémon's Surf with its own. Baimu wasn't sure he'd have had the nerve to order that, yet Aggron had done it.
And it had successfully held back its opponent's same-type Surf until it could no longer hurt Aggron.
Honestly, if Aggron had learned another Water-type move right then and there, Baimu wouldn't have found it strange.
After adapting to water this much, he couldn't believe Aggron hadn't developed at least some resistance to Water-type moves.
Of course, it was probably exhausted after spending so long in the water.
"There's still so much room to grow. We can improve in all kinds of ways."
Baimu put away three Poké Balls and was about to check the countdown in the lower-right corner when a window full of text popped up on the screen.
An announcement came over the speakers.
He skimmed it and smiled. Just as he'd thought.
The Battle Tent's first three rounds were called qualifiers rather than preliminaries because two participants would advance straight to the semifinals based on their performance.
It was called the qualifier reward system.
