He had to admit it.
The Sun and Moon cast really did look young.
Of the group, only the dark-skinned Kiawe looked a little mature. The rest looked younger than the last.
Baimu swept his gaze over them just as a plump yellow mouse flew toward him.
"Pika!"
A delighted cry rang out. Then something fluffy rubbed against his chin. He looked down. Who else could it be but Pikachu?
"Long time no see, Pikachu. You're as cute as ever!"
Baimu cheerfully kneaded Pikachu's cheeks and long ears. As Pikachu made a blissful sound, tiny sparks flickered across its red cheek pouches.
It was a sign of excitement.
"Pikachu~"
He had always liked this yellow mouse, so he had made a point of winning it over whenever he met Ash.
Pikachu responded to kindness in kind, and the two had naturally grown close.
Of course.
Aggron and the other Pokémon had played a part, too. They got along well with Pikachu.
"Pika!"
Pikachu reached out a paw to greet Hydreigon beside them.
"Sha-sang."
For once, Hydreigon responded.
It did not get jealous that easily. Most of the time, it only grew jealous when it wanted Baimu's attention or felt threatened in some way.
And Hydreigon knew Pikachu posed no threat. Pikachu would never leave that rather goofy-looking human. Their bond was just like the one Hydreigon shared with its Trainer.
After a brief greeting with Pikachu, Baimu looked away.
He walked over to Professor Kukui, who seemed surprised that he knew Ash, and said quietly:
"Professor! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction and putting in a good word for me with the Island King. Hala has agreed to let me take on the Island Challenge."
Professor Kukui laughed heartily. "I barely did anything, so don't mention it!
