Happiness had gone to Chris's head, but then she remembered that all of this was only her fantasy, and that she would still have to face cold reality once she woke up. Her heart tightened again.
As though a bucket of cold water had been dumped over her, Chris looked down again at the girl beneath her, whose expression seemed to have frozen. Sadness and resentment welled up inside her.
"Why?! Why would you leave me alone when we'd finally had this precious reunion, like a blessing from God? Why would you bury everything inside instead of telling me about your pain? Do you distrust me that much? Am I really that unworthy of your trust?!"
And so, with tears in her eyes, Chris poured out everything she had never been able to say to what she believed was a doll in her dream.
"Ah, I know. It's because I'm too weak. Too weak to keep up with you, so you left me behind. Too weak to do anything about your pain, so you wouldn't tell me because you didn't want me to worry. So weak that if I worried about you, you'd have to worry about keeping me safe."
Tears blurred her vision, making the figure before her seem slightly unreal, but Chris paid that no mind and kept rambling on about her feelings.
"I understand. I understand all of it, but I just can't accept it... Every day, every single day, I imagine how wonderful it would be if we could be like we used to be. But every time, it's just an empty dream. I've gone from hope to despair so many times that I can't even tell anymore... Hic—"
She held the other girl's hand tight, exposing her most vulnerable side. Tears fell onto the girl's
