Regent of the Imperium, Primarch of the Ultramarines, and the Emperor's loyal son—today was yet another day of cleaning up the Imperium's mess.
Guilliman sat down behind his desk. The documents piled around him were like Terra's city walls, burying him beneath the stacks.
Even the Primarch's towering frame looked small amid the sea of documents.
Cato Sicarius, captain of the Victrix Guard, brought him a pot of coffee.
Guilliman said pleasantly, "Thank you, Cato. You've really helped me out."
"It seems you'll have another exhausting day ahead of you." Cato clasped his hands together.
He was a brave and honest young man. Whenever Guilliman looked at him, he often thought of his captain of the guard, Hyl, from ten thousand years ago, before he fell into a poisoned slumber.
"It's simply my duty." Guilliman spoke kindly. "You don't all have to stay in the office. Just leave a few people at the door. You can try rotating shifts, and the rest of you can go get some rest."
Cato shook his head. "It's our duty as well, my lord."
The Victrix Guard, also known as the Primarch's Guard, was responsible for protecting the Primarch at all times. Whenever the Primarch was reviewing official business in the palace or the governor's hall, the guard was always required to be present.
Adeptus Custodes shield-guards were stationed in the corridor outside and in the antechamber to protect the Regent.
Inside the office, only the Primarch's Guard protected their Primarch.
Guilliman smiled and looked gently at Cato. "Very well, then. Sorry for the trouble."
Cato turned and withdrew, returning to the office door to quietly resume his watch.
Perhaps it was just his imagination, but it felt as though the Primarch had been in a much better mood lately...
