Major General Bonaparte said nothing, but his face looked just as grim as he turned toward Director Hiddink.

"What else can we do? An Absolute Divine Domain can't be destroyed. We have to fight with our backs to the wall. Either he dies or we do." Director Hiddink regained his composure. His gaze hardened as he said evenly, "Sonic, my old friend. We've fought for thirty years. This time, one of us dies."

Meanwhile, a crash rang out from the mayor's office in Faerun City. A tall, powerfully built old man had smashed half of a heavy solid-wood desk with one slap. "What the hell is going on?" he roared. "Get me Director Hiddink. Ask him what's happening over there and why an Absolute Divine Domain has appeared!"

Mayor Felch was shocked and furious. As Faerun City's highest official, he knew all about the Anomalies Bureau's operation and had approved Director Hiddink's plan. But he had never expected things to go wrong from the start. The ground collapse in the Factory District had triggered a mild earthquake. The nearby Hillson District, Lonanlint District, and Shu Wadico District had all been affected. Buildings had fallen, roads had split open, and many people had been killed or injured.
