Following Alfred's orders, the entire Hunter Base shifted from the initial panic of the riot into an orderly state.
First, relying on the impregnable architecture of the base from the outside, those unruly thugs were far from being able to shake the foundations of the Hunter Base by making trouble; a detachment of hunters sent out to join the combat quickly curbed the further escalation of the chaos.
Inside the Hunter Base, however, some well-trained new hunters began gathering toward the underground spaces of the base, where several entry points had been prepared with defenses—once any movement of explosive breaching was detected, no matter who came out from there, they would encounter concentrated fire attacks!
The hunters mobilized in full force; although it started with a small accident, they had learned of the enemy's plan in advance after all, so the operation proceeded in an orderly manner.
When Alfred gave the orders, Obi-Wan listened right beside him—he loathed himself beyond measure for not having enough formidable strength to directly rescue Rami, instead of having to betray his comrades like this now!
Dammit! Obi-Wan smashed his head against the ground, bashing it bloody, yet it was still to no avail.
He could almost imagine how despairing the expressions of Scusen and his men would be when they emerged from the tunnel only to find the hunters already waiting for them.
Obi-Wan had practically single-handedly doomed the entire Scusen Group!
How could he come to terms with this?
But Rami's life... Obi-Wan fell into deep self-blame because he could not simply abandon Rami either—he didn't dare to gamble. What if?
What if they really let them strike? Then Rami's fragile body would absolute not be able to withstand it!
Obi-Wan was already thinking about how to salvage the out-of-control situation.
At this point, Obi-Wan could only pin his hopes on Aeneas—because Aeneas was the one variable Alfred would never anticipate, and at the same time, Obi-Wan had deliberately overlooked Aeneas's role.
Although matters had begun to develop toward an irreversible place, a glimmer of survival was still stirring.
And often, this glimmer of survival happened in places where no one expected it!
In the underground cell at this moment.
The guard, who had just finished breaking the Den Den Mushi, put down the charcoal-roasted iron plate by his side, and Rami's hanging heart finally dropped.
Rami's current appearance could be described as utterly miserable; she wore only a single thin shirt, her brown hair had become dirty and gray, her skin was incomparably pale, and there were large and small patches, making her look extremely ugly.
The once-cute Little Rami had unexpectedly turned into such a wretched appearance.
If Obi-Wan and Aeneas, who knew Little Rami, saw her, they would probably risk their lives to make those beasts pay the price!
Yet at this moment, Rami's eyes rolled. She was inherently exceptionally clever; although her body was somewhat weak at a time like this—wasn't that even more authentic and believable?
The guard had just put down the charcoal-roasted iron plate when Rami directly let out a painful cry.
"Ah—" Rami shrieked, her entire body convulsing, the silvery-white patches on her exposed arms extremely dense, enough to make one's scalp tingle.
Although the number of guards watching the cells had been increased previously, in reality they were extremely resistant to approaching Rami.
Let alone inflicting minor punishments on Rami—they didn't have to do anything at all, and this little girl would convulse all over from pain for no apparent reason, while the patches on her body would become even more fragmented and dense.
It truly gave anyone who looked at her a feeling of nausea and disgust.
Therefore, the guards preferred to stay as far away from this terrifying little monster as possible, terrified of contracting some strange disease.
"Acting up again?" The guard twitch the corner of his mouth as he looked at Rami's state, seemingly not too surprised. "Good grief, I'll toss the medicine in for you to eat by yourself!"
However, Rami's body suddenly stopped moving.
The guard stared for a long time, but she remained completely motionless.
"She couldn't be dead, could she?" The guard suddenly grew somewhat nervous. "Crap! Won't the boss kill me?"
He was well aware that this little girl was an extremely important bargaining chip; if she died, he wouldn't expect to live either.
"Don't do this to me?" The guard was on the verge of tears. He really hadn't done anything; ever since this girl arrived in this cell, she would fall ill every few days. Although she always calmed down after taking medicine each time, how come she had directly lost consciousness this time?
"Damn it!" The guard dared not presume otherwise. If he waited any longer and Rami didn't wake up in time, he would die first.
"Click!"
The guard directly drew the key to open the cell door, wrapped a huge piece of cotton cloth around his hand, carefully wound it around Rami's body a few times, and then hoisted her up with a pole, carrying her like a carrying-pole load.
"Those doctors refused to come over no matter what, so I have to take her myself!" The more the guard thought about it, the angrier he grew, feeling utterly displeased. "Coming and going from the cells, what if this little girl runs away?"
With his back turned and hanging the package wrapped around Rami, the guard suddenly felt his hand grow light.
The guard skipped a heartbeat, looked back, and found the package empty?
"Where did she go?"
The guard's gaze swept quickly, but the next moment, high-temperature burning directly blinded his eyes, and then his body and torso were scalded continuously several times.
"Ah—my eyes!" The guard collapsed directly to the ground, howling in agony, and breathed his last not long after.
The one who had accomplished all this was none other than Rami.
Feigning unconsciousness to make the guard come in and carry her out, she slipped out of the bundle with her slender body, directly lifted the charcoal-roasted iron plate the guard had just put down, and turned the tables on him!
Rami took the entire set of keys from the guard's waist and, without a moment's hesitation, left the spot immediately.
Moreover, judging by her actions, she moved with practiced familiarity, as if she had known the route long beforehand.
In truth, Rami's self-rescue operation was neither a coincidence nor the guard's negligence.
All of this was Rami's own scheme!
"Those people all think my illness is contagious, and not a single one dares to approach me," Rami thought to herself. "And there's completely no symptom of painful convulsions; everything was just an act!"
Originally, to confuse the enemy, Rami had continuously fabricated a false symptom, leading others to believe she suffered regular attacks.
And whenever Rami took those special medicines that could cure a portion of infectious diseases, she would intentionally resume her calm—actually just to maintain the illusion that her illness was also contagious.
The result was a resounding success: those guards never dared to approach her again, and rarely stood guard simultaneously. Furthermore, doctors were even less willing to come to her cell; if any symptoms appeared, they would disinfect beforehand and wait for her to be sent over.
Among the dozen rotating guards, the one just now happened to be slightly leaner than the others.
Coupled with the fact that today there happened to be a charcoal-roasted iron plate available to serve as Rami's weapon.
Thus, all of this was entirely Rami's own plan—everything had been acted out by herself.
Rami looked at her almost withered body; although most of it was a facade, the physical weakness and the spread of white spots were real, and Rami herself could sense that she probably wouldn't live much longer.
"But I haven't seen Uncle and Big Brother yet!" Thinking of this, Rami's eyes filled with determination. "Uncle must have been captured because of me, and this place is too dangerous. I must find the place where Uncle is locked up!"
