Obi-Wan felt a sense of desolation wash over him the moment he thought about it.
I once regarded them as comrades, yet I am the only one stuck in this quagmire! Obi-Wan's former companions had died one after another, while the others from their generation had survived to become the very people they once despised most.
They began converting their own grievances into desires, inflicting them upon the next generation.
Being able to sit back and reap endless treasures and benefits—such a sweet deal was truly hard to refuse.
Obi-Wan took a deep breath; he had already made peace with it.
His only lingering sentiment toward the Hunter Organization was for the partners who had shared weal and woe with him in the past, not those drifting with the tide and wasting away—he was ashamed to be counted among them!
It was worth mentioning that out of all those partners, only one was still alive to this day.
Her name was Stephanie!
"What's making me a bit curious, though..." Alfred had now basically confirmed that Obi-Wan had nowhere to run. "What on earth did the Dunhold Family do?"
"Why is the Navy willing to pay such a huge price just to exchange for your life?" Alfred laid out a string of numbers, which shockingly turned out to be Obi-Wan's classified bounty.
And the figure actually reached two hundred million Beli!
The thirty-five million Beli on the open market was merely a common decoy bounty; to Alfred, how could Obi-Wan's life possibly be worth two hundred million?
Obi-Wan was also extremely astonished when he saw this number.
Yet this was clearly not good news, because if such a massive bounty was placed on him simply for his status as the steward of the Dunhold Family, what about Aeneas, the Young Master of the Dunhold Family?
If his true identity were exposed, wouldn't things become even more dangerous?
Obi-Wan himself was quite lost; could there truly be some secret he knew nothing about?
"What on earth was the reason Antonidas was executed back then?" Obi-Wan desperately wanted to know the truth—if he managed to stay alive, he would definitely investigate everything for the master who had truly shown him kindness in the past!
Right now, however, the most important thing was to find Rami!
Yet seeing Alfred appear, Obi-Wan could not help but worry whether some variable might arise in the plan.
"Alfred is not easy to deal with. Even with me going all out, it's still a bit of a stretch. I wonder how things are going over on Scusen's end..." Obi-Wan's expression was utterly grim, and he still wanted to know what purpose Alfred had in mind next.
"You still have accomplices, don't you?" Alfred narrowed his eyes as he scrutinized Obi-Wan, causing Obi-Wan to feel a jolt in his heart while keeping his outward appearance entirely composed.
"I don't believe you came to surrender yourself purely out of the blue, given that you were able to engineer a scheme that almost killed me back then." Alfred could be essentially certain that something unfavorable to him was bound to happen shortly.
"Tell me your plan, or that girl dies!"
Alfred finally revealed his ferocious side; even with only a single eye, he still looked exceptionally terrifying.
Hearing Alfred's words, Obi-Wan felt his entire heart tighten.
"Despicable and shameless!" Obi-Wan wore a panicked expression, forcing himself to calm down, but how could he remain indifferent when Rami was involved?
"Buru buru!"
"Buru buru!"
Without wasting words, Alfred directly dialed a Den Den Mushi at his side.
The Den Den Mushi connected, and a guard answered on the other end.
"Put that girl on the phone." Alfred wore a playful expression.
Before any sound could come from the phone, Obi-Wan lunged over and shouted, "Rami! Rami! Are you alright?"
"Is that you, big uncle?" A weak voice slowly drifted over, which was undoubtedly Rami's voice.
"They didn't hurt you, did they? Where are you, Rami? I'm coming to save you!" Obi-Wan cried tears of joy, desperate to know Rami's location.
"I'm fine, big uncle, hurry and run, they still have—"
Seeing this, Alfred directly hung up the phone.
"Such a talkative little girl." Alfred frowned, then looked at Obi-Wan, who was glaring at him and panting heavily. "Now, make your choice, or I'll make you hear the screams of that silly girl dying with your own ears!"
Obi-Wan gnashed his teeth in intense fury, wishing to tear off the Seastone handcuffs—yet how could he possibly wrench apart such sturdy Seastone through brute strength alone?
Fortunately, however, he had confirmed that Rami's life was safe for the moment.
Whether she would remain safe hereafter depended entirely on Obi-Wan.
"Do you take me for a scumbag like you lot who would betray my own people?" Obi-Wan spoke in a low voice, resembling a beast's growl, a fierce glint flashing in his tiger-like eyes. "I am not like you!"
"I know you're not like us, but I also know..." Alfred dialed the Den Den Mushi once more, this time having the guard answer. "...you will definitely talk!"
"Have you ever eaten charcoal-grilled cuisine?" Alfred narrowed his lips and licked them, and the guard on the other end of the Den Den Mushi immediately knew what he needed to do.
"Sizzle—"
It was the sound of sparks bursting forth.
Obi-Wan's face turned pale with terror, and as if completely losing control, he overturned the table in front of him.
"Don't touch her!" Obi-Wan roared. He knew all too well how fragile Rami was; let alone a charcoal-grilling torture, even the slightest burn could make the little girl severely ill for days on end. If she were actually subjected to torture, the consequences were truly unimaginable!
"Speak." Alfred looked at Obi-Wan expressionlessly, and the guard on the other end of the Den Den Mushi did not act rashly either.
Perhaps they, too, understood Rami's fragility. If they genuinely wanted to extract useful information from Obi-Wan, Rami could not die—hence they did not quite dare to truly use torture.
Yet Obi-Wan was bound to crack before they did!
Alfred knew his "disciple" inside and out.
Obi-Wan darkened his face and remained silent for a few seconds.
Right at that moment, however, a massive explosion suddenly echoed from outside the window.
Alfred stood up and looked out into the distance, and Obi-Wan followed suit, gazing outside.
What came into view was a terrifying green monster crashing down from the direction of North Street, triggering a massive riot among the ruffians involved in the Round Street Slaughter. Well over half of the crowd surged toward the Hunter Base, which had originally been a restricted area.
At the exact same time, a massive influx of ruffians poured in from South Street as well. As if prearranged, the entire Round Street Slaughter plunged into complete chaos.
Even the hunters guarding the outer perimeter came under attack by those people.
Alfred pondered for a brief moment.
"This must be the diversionary tactic, which means there should be a breakthrough point operating in secret." Alfred looked at Obi-Wan.
At this point, Obi-Wan could no longer hold out. He truthfully disclosed the intelligence regarding Scusen and the others breaching the underground base to Alfred.
Alfred broke into a satisfied smile.
"A decent trade." In the end, the charcoal-grilling torture had merely been used to intimidate Obi-Wan, but the results were not half bad.
"Pass the word down to reinforce the defense of the underground base. Let's give those overconfident bastards a surprise!" Alfred smiled faintly. "As for me, I'd like to continue discussing old times with my 'good disciple'!"
