Background / History

Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his master outside Notting Academy after Yu inferred that his Innate Full Soul Power and Blue Silver Grass indicated Twin Martial Souls. Luo Fan warned him against trusting Yu, but Tang San instead defended his new teacher. 1

At Dorm Seven, Tang San challenged Luo Fan to establish himself before Xiao Wu. Luo Fan threw him into a wall twice, including after Tang San used Purple Demon Eyes, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and Mysterious Jade Hand. The defeats began Tang San’s enduring rivalry with Luo Fan. 2

After obtaining a near-limit Datura Snake Soul Ring, Tang San challenged Luo Fan again as a Level 12 control-type Soul Master. His Blue Silver Entanglement successfully bound Luo Fan, but Wood Clone Technique turned the duel into a multi-opponent fight and left Tang San severely beaten. 5 7

Tang San recovered some confidence after Yu Xiaogang explained the potential of his Clear Sky Hammer and revealed that Tang Hao was both his father and a Titled Douluo. He continued to train, use hidden weapons, and pursue methods that could counter Luo Fan’s clones. 9 19

During Notting Academy’s midterm assessment, Tang San defeated opponents as strong as Level 17 despite having Level 13 Soul Power. He reached the final against Luo Fan, but his ranged weapons and Blue Silver Entanglement could not overcome Luo Fan’s forty-five Wood Clones; Tang San conceded defeat. 16 17 18

A year and a half later, Tang San reached Level 22 and traveled to Heaven Dou City specifically to challenge Luo Fan again, regarding him as an “inner demon” he needed to overcome. He was instead confronted by Luo Fan’s three-ring, Level 33 cultivation and ten-thousand-year third Soul Ring. 47 50 51

Tang San fought despite the disparity, but Luo Fan’s Deep Forest Emergence defeated and restrained him without needing Wood Clones or Rasengan. The loss devastated Tang San’s confidence until Tang Hao revealed their family history, Ah Yin’s fate, and the Clear Sky Hammer’s heritage. 52 53

Personality

Tang San is proud, highly competitive, and particularly unwilling to lose publicly. His early challenges against Luo Fan are partly motivated by a desire to demonstrate his strength before Xiao Wu, and he repeatedly escalates or renews their rivalry after defeat. 2 5 49

He is diligent and adaptable in combat, combining control skills, mobility techniques, and hidden weapons against stronger opponents. However, his confidence often depends on Yu Xiaogang’s reassurance or his belief that he has discovered a counter to Luo Fan’s abilities. 7 9 17
