Background / History

In his previous life, Tang San was an outer disciple of the Shu Tang Sect who studied hidden weapons and martial techniques for more than twenty years. His past included stealing the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record and jumping off a cliff. He retained his previous-life memories from childhood after being reborn in Douluo Continent. 17 110 115

Tang San accepted Yu Xiaogang as his master outside Notting Academy after Yu inferred that his Innate Full Soul Power and Blue Silver Grass indicated Twin Martial Souls. Luo Fan warned him against trusting Yu, but Tang San instead defended his new teacher. 1

At Dorm Seven, Tang San challenged Luo Fan to establish himself before Xiao Wu. Luo Fan threw him into a wall twice, including after Tang San used Purple Demon Eyes, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and Mysterious Jade Hand. The defeats began Tang San’s enduring rivalry with Luo Fan. 2

After obtaining a near-limit Datura Snake Soul Ring, Tang San challenged Luo Fan again as a Level 12 control-type Soul Master. His Blue Silver Entanglement successfully bound Luo Fan, but Wood Clone Technique turned the duel into a multi-opponent fight and left Tang San severely beaten. 5 7

Tang San recovered some confidence after Yu Xiaogang explained the potential of his Clear Sky Hammer and revealed that Tang Hao was both his father and a Titled Douluo. He continued to train, use hidden weapons, and pursue methods that could counter Luo Fan’s clones. 9 19

During Notting Academy’s midterm assessment, Tang San defeated opponents as strong as Level 17 despite having Level 13 Soul Power. He reached the final against Luo Fan, but his ranged weapons and Blue Silver Entanglement could not overcome Luo Fan’s forty-five Wood Clones; Tang San conceded defeat. 16 17 18

A year and a half later, Tang San reached Level 22 and traveled to Heaven Dou City specifically to challenge Luo Fan again, regarding him as an “inner demon” he needed to overcome. He was instead confronted by Luo Fan’s three-ring, Level 33 cultivation and ten-thousand-year third Soul Ring. 47 50 51

Tang San fought despite the disparity, but Luo Fan’s Deep Forest Emergence defeated and restrained him without needing Wood Clones or Rasengan. The loss devastated Tang San’s confidence until Tang Hao revealed their family history, Ah Yin’s fate, and the Clear Sky Hammer’s heritage. 52 53

Over the following year, Tang San trained under both Yu Xiaogang and Tang Hao, reaching Level 26 at nine years old. During Luo Fan’s visit to their Holy Soul Village blacksmith shop, Tang Hao made Tang San serve his rival dinner and praised Luo Fan’s Level 39 cultivation. Tang San resented his father’s warmth toward Luo Fan, especially after Tang Hao forbade him from speaking badly of Luo Fan and moved to Back Mountain. Tang San initially misunderstood the move as his father choosing Luo Fan over him; Tang Hao was actually moving to protect Ah Yin. 57 58 127

Tang San subsequently agreed to leave Notting Academy for Heaven Dou City after Xue Qinghe offered Yu Xiaogang access to the imperial library and support for publishing his theories. Although the proposed destination was Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Luo Fan privately urged Qian Renxue not to admit Tang San. Tang San instead enrolled at Blue Tyrant Academy, where Yu Xiaogang reunited with Liu Erlong and invited Flender and his students to join them. 81 102

At ten years old and Level 32, Tang San intervened in a street confrontation between his companions and Heaven Dou Royal Academy students. He fought Yu Tianheng on roughly equal terms, but Yu Tianheng’s repeated unfavorable comparisons with Luo Fan provoked him into using the Godly Zhuge Crossbow with lethal intent. Luo Fan arrived and blocked the bolts with Rashomon, then rebuked Tang San for attempting to kill someone during a spar. 102 103 104

Tang San immediately challenged Luo Fan again, relying on his newly crafted hidden weapons despite discovering that Luo Fan had become a five-ring Soul King. A single Wood Clone outmatched him in close combat and shredded his Blue Silver Entanglement with Rasengan. Tang San eventually threw the Mother-Child Soul-Chasing Life-Taking Orb, prompting Luo Fan to retaliate with lethal intent and intercept the weapon. When questioned afterward, Tang San acknowledged that the orbs scattered poisoned needles and could seriously injure even an unprepared Titled Douluo. 104 105 106 109

Luo Fan’s recognition of the weapon led Tang San to suspect that his rival also came from the Shu Tang Sect. Luo Fan deliberately encouraged this mistaken belief by posing as a true inheritor of the sect’s inner disciples, claiming to have come to collect the debt for Tang San’s theft of the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record. Tang San accepted Luo Fan’s supposed Tang Sect background, although he disputed the claim that Luo Fan possessed a cultivation art superior to the record. 110 115

After the attempted killing, Luo Fan exposed Tang San’s otherworldly origins and characterized him as an Outworld Demon possessing a native child. Yu Xiaogang initially rejected the accusation, but Tang San’s unexplained hidden-weapon knowledge and subsequent admission of previous-life memories convinced him. Tang San denied seizing another person’s body or being an advance scout for an invasion, insisting that he himself was Tang San. Nevertheless, his teacher and the people at Blue Tyrant Academy began distancing themselves from him. 113 114 115 127

Luo Fan also brought the accusation to the Clear Sky Sect. Tang Xiao informed Tang Hao, who reconsidered Tang San’s unusual childhood maturity, early cultivation, and knowledge of hidden weapons as evidence of possession. Tang Hao volunteered to handle the matter personally. After learning that Tang San had tried to kill Luo Fan—the person helping Ah Yin regrow—Tang Hao captured Tang San, beat him severely, and brought him before Luo Fan. There, Tang San finally learned that Ah Yin survived as Blue Silver Grass and that Luo Fan’s ability to accelerate her growth explained Tang Hao’s favorable treatment of him. 120 121 122 123 126 127

Tang Hao ultimately decided that the supposed Outworld Demon had killed his real son and endangered Ah Yin’s future. Tang San, overwhelmed by despair, offered no last words and waited for death. Before Tang Hao could kill him with the Clear Sky Hammer, a black-cloaked woman rescued Tang San and escaped his pursuit. The rescuer was Bibi Dong, although Tang San initially encountered her as an unidentified woman. 128 129 130

In the Sunset Forest, Bibi Dong offered Tang San the prospect of revenge and demonstrated her two spider-type martial souls, including hundred-thousand-year Soul Rings. Tang San regarded her as an ideal prospective teacher because she was both a powerful Titled Douluo and a successful Twin Martial Soul cultivator. He contrasted her qualifications favorably with Yu Xiaogang’s inability to advance beyond Level 29. 129

Before the ensuing three-and-a-half-year time skip, Bibi Dong warned Tang San that the Clear Sky Sect, Heaven Dou Empire, and Spirit Hall were all searching for him. His distinctive martial souls and hidden weapons made a simple change of identity impractical. He accepted her recommendation to hide in Slaughter City and, before leaving, told her that Luo Fan was also an Outworld Demon and supposedly a Tang Sect inner disciple. This disclosure prompted Bibi Dong to investigate Luo Fan’s origins and consider exposing him to Qian Renxue. Personality

Tang San is proud, highly competitive, and particularly unwilling to lose publicly. His early challenges against Luo Fan are partly motivated by a desire to demonstrate his strength before Xiao Wu, and he repeatedly escalates or renews their rivalry after defeat. 2 5 49

He is diligent and adaptable in combat, combining control skills, mobility techniques, and hidden weapons against stronger opponents. However, his confidence often depends on Yu Xiaogang’s reassurance or his belief that he has discovered a counter to Luo Fan’s abilities. 7 9 17

Repeated defeats make Tang San jealous of Luo Fan’s Wood Clone Technique and increasingly sensitive to comparisons between them. Tang Hao’s visible favor toward Luo Fan further deepens this resentment. 10 57 58

By his time at Blue Tyrant Academy, Luo Fan’s name has become an especially sensitive subject. Yu Tianheng’s comparisons cause Tang San to lose control of his anger and attempt a lethal crossbow attack. His willingness to use lethal hidden weapons during spars escalates the rivalry beyond childhood competition.
