From initial fear to dread?
What exactly was going on?
Thor could not figure it out, but the uneasy feeling in his heart grew stronger and stronger, while the noise around him gradually became more chaotic.
"Oh my God! Please, gods, save us! Aliens are invading!"
"It's the end of the world! Earth is finished!"
"Can someone save me? I'm so scared!"
The terrified cries of the citizens rose and fell one after another.
People ran even faster.
They rushed about in panic and terror, like headless flies crashing everywhere.
As an invisible pressure grew increasingly intense,
the alien army that had flown here fled elsewhere as though they had seen a ghost.
The panic was visible to the naked eye.
New York, already in chaos, had now become a complete mess.
Wong was somewhat stunned by the sight.
He clearly did not understand what had happened.
But he understood one thing: an invisible fear was spreading through his heart.
"So scary..." At that moment, Aili, standing beside Wong, suddenly spoke.
As she spoke, terror appeared on her face.
Wong could not help but freeze.
Wong did not know much about Aili.
But every time he saw her,
Aili had been expressionless, cold as ice.
This was the first time Wong had seen an expression on Aili's face—and it was fear?
What exactly was going on?
Wong wondered, but the fear in his heart became harder and harder to suppress as it surged through his entire body.
Just then, Berkeley suddenly crawled over.
He looked at Wong and said in a trembling voice, "Arch-Sorcerer! It's too terrifying... Zhang Yang, he... he actually learned Fear Magic!"
Wong froze, instantly dumbfounded.
No way!
No way!
Zhang Yang had actually learned Fear Magic?
The Fear Magic Berkeley had deliberately made up just to deceive Zhang Yang?!
Zhang Yang had learned it?!
You had to be kidding! He could even learn something made up on the spot?!
(The author humbly begs for flowers, comments, and votes, okay? +0=.)
Chapter 36
This was outrageous!
Kamar-Taj had actually produced a monstrous genius!
Wong had originally thought Zhang Yang merely possessed high comprehension.
But now it seemed Zhang Yang was not merely gifted at comprehension. He could learn whatever he was taught!
Even made-up magic could be mastered perfectly by him!
Zhang Yang... was truly terrifying!
Wong could not help thinking this, the fear in his heart growing ever stronger.
It seemed Zhang Yang had not withdrawn his Fear Magic. Instead, he was strengthening it.
"So terrifying... he... he's practically a god!"
Looking at Zhang Yang, Wong could not help but say this.
For some reason, Wong felt somewhat flustered at that moment.
And Wong was not the only one who felt this panic.
As the energy around Zhang Yang grew stronger and the range of fear expanded,
inside S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters,
Nick Fury stood before the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows of his office, looking at chaotic New York City in the distance.
He frowned.
Around him were noisy, frantic shouts:
"So scary! Why is it so terrifying? I feel like a demon is about to descend at any moment! The Chitauri army is just a smokescreen!"
"No! It's not a demon! It's a god! A god is descending upon Earth! It's too terrifying! An Old God is awakening!"
"A god... a true god is descending! Earth will be ruled by a true god! We are nothing more than ants!"
If he had not heard it with his own ears, Nick Fury would never have believed these words could come from the mouths of such highly trained agents.
A true god?
An Old God?
What kind of bullshit was that?
Why were they all shouting nonsense here instead of helping drive away the aliens?!
Nick Fury frowned and hurriedly asked Agent Hill beside him, "What the hell is going on with these people?!"
As the successor Nick Fury had trained to take over S.H.I.E.L.D.,
Hill was currently Nick Fury's assistant.
Her responsibility was to manage all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s agents.
But clearly, Hill did not know what was going on either.
She urgently contacted Agent Barton at the scene.
Barton, codenamed Hawkeye.
As an agent whose professional abilities were second only to Black Widow's,
Hill believed Hawkeye should know something.
The moment the communicator connected, Hill hurriedly asked, "Barton, what happened? What's wrong with the agents?"
However, Hawkeye's only response was the same three words repeated over and over: "So scary... so scary... so scary..."
Nick Fury, who was also wearing a communicator, heard those three words as well.
Nick Fury and Hill exchanged a look, their expressions grave.
As a senior agent,
Hawkeye had seen countless battlefields and deaths, living a life on the edge of a blade.
Yet someone like him had actually said the words "so scary"?
Both Nick Fury and Hill were stunned.
What could possibly be so terrifying?
"What's scary? Barton, explain yourself!" Hill hurriedly asked Barton.
"God! A god is awakening! This is a warning! A warning!" Barton suddenly said just as Hill asked her question.
Thud!
A faint sound came through the communicator.
Though faint, it was exceptionally clear.
Nick Fury raised an eyebrow. Sensitive and meticulous as ever, he asked in a low voice, "Barton, what fell?"
Barton did not answer from the other end of the communicator. He only kept saying, "Run! Run... no, there's nowhere for us to run!"
Nick Fury did not ask any further questions.
But he vaguely sensed that this was no simple matter.
"Contact Captain America immediately!" Nick Fury said hurriedly.
Hill nodded and immediately connected the communicator to Captain America's channel.
The moment it connected, a loud shout came from the communicator: "It's a god! He's waking up! We have offended a god!"
A god again?!
Hill looked somewhat bewildered as she said to Nick Fury, "Sir, Captain America's condition seems even worse than Barton's!"
By now, Nick Fury was somewhat bewildered as well.
What exactly was wrong with them?
Why had they suddenly all started talking about gods?
Could Loki have done something?
Nick Fury was making guesses inwardly when Hill suddenly shouted, "Sir, look!"
Hill pointed toward New York City in the distance, which had already fallen.
Through the locator on the glass,
Nick Fury could clearly observe every movement in New York City.
It would have been better if he had not looked. The moment he did, Nick Fury was dumbfounded.
Why... were all those citizens kneeling?!
Among those kneeling were Captain America, Barton, and even Tony Stark???
My God?!
Tony Stark was actually kneeling?
What exactly was going on?
Why were they all raising their hands?
What were they doing? Was this some kind of cult ritual?
Nick Fury was dumbfounded. The questions filling his mind made the always-in-control Nick Fury deeply uncomfortable.
Nick Fury wanted answers.
He desperately wanted to know what had happened!
