It was after school.
The Spirit girl named Qian Huanyue stood at the school gate in casual clothes, waiting for someone. Her long white hair draped down her back, and she wore a white sleeveless high-neck dress. Looking sweetly like a girl who had stumbled into love, she drew countless sidelong glances from passersby.
"Who is she waiting for?"
"I've never seen anyone so beautiful. Is she a transfer student?"
Whispers flowed through the crowd, and countless gazes clung to her.
Just who was so lucky to have won this beauty's favor? And they were so unpunctual that they actually made her wait at the school gate.
While the passing students marveled at Qian Huanyue's beauty, they also viciously beat up the possible person she was dating in their minds.
Qian Huanyue paid no attention to anyone else's stares.
Hmph, how could she possibly be waiting for someone else?
Of course she was waiting for Shiori.
Sure enough, before long, the blue-haired cute girl she had been longing for appeared at the school gate, unable to breathe fire.
Shiori no longer had to pretend to be the male "Shido." She had transferred back into the class under her own identity as Shiori and had recently become quite popular at school.
"Huanyue?!" Shiori spotted her at once, surprise flashing across her face as her eyes lit up. Without thinking, she quickened her pace.
"What are you doing here?" A faint blush colored her cheeks. With some experience now, Shiori's words had become increasingly pleasant to hear.
She paused slightly, her voice softening. "I mean, I'm really happy that I get to see you now."
"Me too." Qian Huanyue narrowed her eyes, looking quite pleased.
"So, Huanyue, were you waiting for me here?"
"Because I wanted to go on a date." Qian Huanyue said something that made Shiori blush in a coquettish tone.
"Shiori~ I want a date." Qian Huanyue repeated in the same tone.
"No problem!" Shiori replied almost instantly, the blush on her cheeks rapidly spreading to the tips of her ears.
She sincerely felt that Huanyue was so cute right now!
Shiori had been sunk.
"Mm..." Qian Huanyue quietly leaned close to her ear and whispered, "No secretly contacting the people on Fraxinus during our date, okay~?"
Feeling the warm breath by her ear, Shiori felt as though her heart was beating too fast.
"Okay." Obediently, Shiori took out her earpiece and handed it to Qian Huanyue. "Huanyue can keep it during the date."
"Such a good girl~" Qian Huanyue stroked Shiori's head as though rewarding her.
Several girls watching in secret—Ai, Mai, and Mii—huddled together and couldn't help squealing softly, "That's so unfair!"
"They're obviously a couple!"
"Seriously, stop it."
The male students secretly watching from nearby felt their hearts break.
"Itsuka actually..."
"Gah! Don't tell me beautiful girls can just pair off among themselves..."
"So which one of them is the aggressive one?"
"Shut up!"
Feeling the gentle touch in her hair, Shiori's neck even turned scarlet. She took Qian Huanyue's wrist on her own initiative, her voice so soft that only the two of them could hear it. "Where are we going now?"
"With Seraph of Thousand Blades, even going abroad for a date wouldn't be a problem." Qian Huanyue smiled faintly and pulled Shiori into a light run.
After they turned into a secluded place, Shiori felt the space around her compress. The silver-haired girl braced one hand against the wall and half-forcibly caged her in.
To make herself seem more imposing, she even deliberately stood on tiptoe until their eyes were level.
Shiori found it a little funny, but also rather adorable.
"Mm, it's still missing a bit of romance," Qian Huanyue said hesitantly. Seraph of Thousand Blades opened a spatial rift beneath their feet.
The instant the spatial rift opened beneath them, Shiori only had time to let out a short cry before Qian Huanyue pulled her into an embrace.
Before them was the profound universe. The blue Earth hung in the distance, incomparably tiny, while the river of stars flowed like a velvet carpet paved with crushed diamonds.
Qian Huanyue's silver hair streamed like moonlight in the weightless environment. She gently cupped Shiori's cheeks and pressed her lips to hers, giving Shiori the only oxygen in her mouth.
If she were sealed with their current affection level, the situation would probably be terrible.
But they had kissed before, and Qian Huanyue's Spiritual Power had not been successfully sealed. Perhaps it was because she was not a Spirit created by the native Mio Takamiya, so she could not be sealed?
In any case, Spirits could move freely through space, and oxygen was not a necessity for them. But Shiori was different. Even with a Spirit's Spiritual Power in her body, she could not remain in space for long.
Aside from the sensations of weightlessness and suffocation, Qian Huanyue used Spiritual Power to isolate everything in space that could make Shiori uncomfortable.
With nothing to brace herself against, Shiori instinctively wrapped her arms around the other girl's waist.
Holding her breath, Shiori looked at her.
"Hello, hello, can you hear me, Shiori?" Qian Huanyue began trying to speak.
Unfortunately, even she could not hear those sounds.
Shiori could not hear anything at all.
"Seraph of Thousand Blades." Qian Huanyue summoned her prized Angel, which was currently in an extremely miniature form.
It transferred Earth's air into the Spiritual Power barrier.
Once it was connected to Earth's air—
Shiori could finally breathe, releasing the breath she had been holding.
With air as a medium, Qian Huanyue's voice could finally be heard.
"How is it? Pretty, right?" Qian Huanyue leaned over with a beaming smile. "Earth."
Shiori looked in the direction she indicated. It was a sight she had never seen before, a uniquely extraordinary perspective.
"It's beautiful..." she murmured, temporarily forgetting her earlier panic.
Qian Huanyue clasped Shiori's hand, and they slowly "drifted" through the universe as though dancing together.
Of course, Qian Huanyue had been keeping track of their route.
She had deliberately avoided the Sixth Spirit, Mukuro Hoshimiya, who was sleeping in space.
It was not yet time to disturb her. Qian Huanyue's date route cleverly went around that silent stretch of the universe.
She only wanted to enjoy this brief tranquility and one-of-a-kind romance with Shiori, without any accident interrupting them.
They stopped atop a suitably sized, flat meteorite.
Qian Huanyue made a Hibiki snap with her fingers.
The weightlessness inside the Spiritual Power barrier returned to normal Earth conditions. Shiori's body dropped down, landing perfectly against the meteorite.
"Quietly watching the stars here..." Qian Huanyue relaxed as well, lying down on the other side of the meteorite. "How does it feel, Shiori?"
"It feels dreamlike," Shiori answered after coming back to her senses, gently covering her lips with one hand.
"Shiori~"
Qian Huanyue leaned closer.
"Hu... Huanyue?!"
"Honestly, Shiori—"
Qian Huanyue moved even closer, nearly resting her entire weight against Shiori. Her light purple eyes gleamed with a wronged look from so close up.
"This is such a rare chance for us to be alone together, so why aren't you hugging me more?" She stretched out her arms, clearly asking for an embrace. "Hug me already."
That straightforward request was like a sweet arrow, striking directly into Shiori's heart.
"O-Okay!"
Shiori almost frantically opened her arms and tightly embraced the silver-haired girl who had leaned into her.
Her cheek rested against Qian Huanyue's cool, soft hair, while the scent of jackfruit lingered around her nose.
It seemed she had eaten that kind of tropical fruit today. The scent mixed with her natural fragrance and filled Shiori's nose, making her entire face flush red.
Qian Huanyue narrowed her eyes in satisfaction.
Then she summoned Seraph of Thousand Blades and took out a box of sweets from some unknown place. Through the transparent film on top, cat-shaped cookies could clearly be seen inside, made with molds borrowed from Kurumi. They appeared to come in all kinds of flavors.
Some contained nuts, some dried fruit, some chocolate chips, cranberries, matcha powder...
Shiori's eyes were dazzled by the abundance.
"Ah~ Shiori, let me feed you."
Qian Huanyue picked out a small one and placed it in Shiori's mouth.
"Nom." She gently bit into the cookie. Its crisp texture immediately melted in her mouth, and the rich scent of chocolate mixed with the sweet fragrance of butter.
Shiori's eyes lit up, and she looked slightly surprised.
"It's so good!"
Qian Huanyue placed the cookie box in Shiori's hands.
"I want cookies too." She tilted her head, silver hair slipping over her shoulder. Her voice carried a clingy, spoiled sweetness. "Feed me too, okay?"
Shiori looked down at the exquisite, adorable cookie box in her hands, then at the Spirit girl waiting to be fed. Her heart involuntarily skipped a beat.
"O-Okay..."
Carefully, she chose a cat-shaped cookie that looked perfectly baked and was dotted with dried cranberries.
Qian Huanyue cooperatively opened her mouth slightly, her smiling gaze never leaving Shiori's face.
When the cookie lightly touched Qian Huanyue's lips, Shiori's fingers trembled almost imperceptibly.
Qian Huanyue took the cookie into her mouth, and her soft lips inadvertently brushed Shiori's fingertips.
That cool, soft touch was like a faint current, racing from her fingertips through her entire body. Shiori abruptly pulled back her hand, and even her breathing became a little hurried.
Qian Huanyue seemed completely unaware as she chewed the cookie contentedly.
"Did Huanyue make these cookies?"
"Mm. Are they good?"
"I like them."
Since earlier, Shiori had noticed that Qian Huanyue seemed especially fond of acting spoiled today. She reached out and stroked the other girl's silver hair.
"I'll work hard too, and make delicious sweets for Huanyue."
Itsuka Shiori could sometimes be rather sly. While speaking those sincere words, she quietly took in the faint blush that appeared on the other girl's face.
That blush brought a secret flicker of pleasure to her heart.
Qian Huanyue had clearly not expected Shiori to suddenly act so intimately, much less counterattack so directly.
Feeling the gentle caress atop her head, she froze at first. Then the blush that had been noticed quickly spread from her cheeks to the tips of her ears.
Shiori had grown up.
Their date was not particularly long, only two hours.
The two of them looked up at the starry sky, with the empty cookie box beside their legs.
"It's about time... we went back." Qian Huanyue spoke softly, pausing before asking, "What did you think? Did you like it? A date where I took the initiative."
"I liked it."
"I knew it—" She leaned forward, cupping Shiori's cheeks in both hands and gently pressing her forehead against Shiori's. "I love you the most~"
Feeling the warmth from her palms and hearing that moving confession by her ear, Shiori felt as though a warm tide had flooded her heart, leaving it utterly soft.
"Mm, I love Huanyue the most too."
After preparing dinner for the Spirits at home and soothing the Spirits' emotions, Shiori was ready to sleep.
Just before falling asleep, Shiori thought for a moment, tapped on her phone, and sent Qian Huanyue a message.
"Shiori: Good night, Huanyue." (Read)
It had been read instantly?
Shiori suddenly felt the space beside her ripple, and Qian Huanyue suddenly appeared, taking up one side of the bed.
"Eeeeeeeh! Huanyue?!"
"Shiori~"
"Huanyue, aren't you going home to sleep?"
"But I want to stay here."
"...Mm."
Shiori still wanted to say something, but a finger pressed against her lips.
"What I mean is, I want to spend the night with Shiori."
"Huh?! Wha?! Huanyue, isn't that a little..."
"I'm kidding." Though she said that, the disappointment in Huanyue's eyes was not fake.
"For example, I wanted to personally say good night to you."
"Mm, I'm really surprised you came over?"
"Is that so, Shiori?" Qian Huanyue rubbed her head and covered Shiori's body with Spiritual Power.
Shiori felt the fatigue in her body ease considerably.
"Good night, Huanyue." Shiori smiled softly. "Thank you."
"Sleep well, Shiori. I hope you have a good dream."
Qian Huanyue helped turn off the light, then used Seraph of Thousand Blades to open a space and leave.
Shiori closed her eyes, feeling very relaxed, and soon fell asleep.
After an unknown amount of time, the silver-haired Spirit girl quietly appeared in the room again.
She pulled back the blankets that had already been warmed, then lightly slipped inside, afraid of disturbing the good dream of the person beside her.
Turning onto her side, she quietly watched Shiori's peaceful sleeping face in the darkness for a while. At last, she closed her eyes in satisfaction as well, allowing sleepiness to envelop her.
Everything else could wait until the next day.
