Amid the commotion, Obito and Kakashi returned to Konoha.

The two went to the Hokage's Office to submit their mission report to Orochimaru.

Orochimaru looked it over. "You two did well. You've completed quite a few valuable missions these past few days.

"The village will be accepting Jonin nominations next month. I hope you'll both put your names forward. You're more than capable of serving as Jonin."

Obito broke into a grin. Even Kakashi's impassive face showed a hint of a smile.

Apart from Hokage, Jonin was the highest rank a ninja could reach. Kakashi had graduated only a few years ago, yet he had already reached a level others spent their whole lives striving for.

Elite Jonin was more a title, a mark of strength. There was no formal assessment or nomination for it.

"Lord Hokage, if there's nothing else, we'll be going," Obito said.

Orochimaru nodded, then suddenly said, "Shisui just awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan. I haven't had the chance to congratulate the Uchiha on producing another true genius."

Obito laughed. "I didn't expect him to beat me to it. Looks like I need to work harder. I'll spar with him when I get back and see what the Mangekyo Sharingan can
