Xie Liuzheng's hands trembled uncontrollably. She bit her lip hard, letting the pain clear her head.

Xie Liuzheng lowered her eyes to the caller ID: Hubby. She watched the phone ring without moving. When the call ended, it rang again.

In the enclosed space, the flashing screen looked like something from a horror film, an omen of doom.

Xie Liuzheng took a deep breath and answered, her voice steady. "Hello, honey."

Duan Xing asked gently, "Honey, why didn't you answer?"

Xie Liuzheng jolted. "I was looking for something. I was just about to call back when you rang again."

Duan Xing had asked casually, but he immediately noticed something was off. "Honey, have you caught a cold? Your voice sounds a little hoarse."

"Maybe the mall's air-conditioning was too cold," Xie Liuzheng said.

Then she remembered their plans for the day and found an excuse. "I'm not feeling well. I have a headache."

"I want to get it checked at the hospital. Let's go to the children's home tomorrow instead."

She needed time to collect herself.

Duan Xing sounded worried. "A headache? Should I come and take you to the hospital?"

"Nothing matters more than your health."

Even over the phone, Xie Liuzheng could picture the worry and tenderness on his face. Her heart clenched. "The hospital's close to the mall. I can drive there myself."

"I'll ask Nuan to come with me."

Xie Liuzheng's plan sounded reasonable, and Duan Xing agreed. "All right. Call me after your checkup."

"Okay."

Xie Liuzheng hung up. Messages kept popping up on her phone. She opened them and saw they were from Zheng Nuan, the friend who had invited her out today.

She had forgotten her friend at the store.

Zheng Nuan opened the car door. "How did you suddenly catch a cold? Is your head hurting badly?"

Xie Liuzheng gave her the same explanation. Perhaps she looked unwell enough that Zheng Nuan didn't question it. Instead, her concern grew. "I'll drive. You get some rest."

"Okay, thank you." Xie Liuzheng gave up the driver's seat, her voice a little hoarse.

"No need to thank me." Zheng Nuan waved it off.

"Nuan, do you think..." Xie Liuzheng suddenly wanted someone to talk to, but swallowed the words before they came out.

Zheng Nuan was in the same orchestra as her and was a friend she shared with Duan Xing.

"Think what?" Zheng Nuan asked.

"...How can the mall's air-conditioning be so cold?" Xie Liuzheng said. "It gave me a headache."

Her nerves were on edge. She found herself suspicious of everything around her.

They reached the hospital without a hitch. Xie Liuzheng also stopped by the ear, nose and throat department.

There was nothing wrong with her ears or her head. The doctor prescribed her some medication to help her relax.

After the appointments, Xie Liuzheng didn't go home. She drove to the Xie Group instead.

Xie Zhiyu was surprised to see her.

"Auntie, what brings you here?"

Xie Liuzheng rarely visited the Xie Group unless she had a reason to.

Xie Liuzheng sat on the sofa and drank some water to steady herself. "I came to see you."

She got straight to the point. "I think Duan Xing is having an affair. Can you look into it for me?"

Xie Zhiyu wondered if he had heard her right. "An affair?"

Xie Liuzheng clasped her hands together. "Yes. I suspect he's having an affair."

Xie Zhiyu sat down. "I'll investigate."

He quickly recovered from his surprise, his voice calm and firm. "Auntie, do you suspect anyone in particular?"

"Tell me everything you know. I'll have a private detective investigate it thoroughly. The more detail, the better."

Xie Zhiyu's composure and trust gave Xie Liuzheng a sense of security.

"I think he's having an affair." She shook her head. She couldn't offer much more than that.

Hearing Shen Baili's thoughts was too unbelievable. Until Xie Liuzheng was certain, she wouldn't bring it up.

No matter how much Xie Zhiyu trusted her, he wouldn't believe something that sounded so absurd.

If her nephew suddenly told her he could hear other people's thoughts, her first reaction would be to take him to a hospital.

"I'll look into the affair."

Xie Liuzheng agreed. "I feel better leaving this to you."

"I'm going to rest for a bit."

She had been tense for so long that the sudden relief left her exhausted.

"Get some rest," Xie Zhiyu said.

Xie Liuzheng lay down on the bed in the lounge and fell asleep the moment her head touched the pillow.

Zhiyu gently closed the lounge door, then walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked out.

The Xie Group building stood in the city center. From the CEO's office at the very top, the bustle of the entire city lay in view.

Sunlight fell across Xie Zhiyu, bright enough to hurt his eyes.

Zhiyu took out his phone and contacted a Private Detective, along with Xie Liuzheng's bodyguard and personal assistant.

He knew Xie Liuzheng wouldn't make a claim like this without reason. But she was in a terrible state, and she had been vague about where her suspicion of Duan Xing had come from.

Zhiyu could only ask the people around her. His aunt, like Xie Tingsi, was clever and kindhearted. That made her an easy target for someone with an agenda.
